Even the first issue of the first IDW ongoing featured cameos from the Mean Dog and Mobile Battle Bunker. So I fail to see why Van Lente's "revelation" is any different from the status quo, though it probably makes for a good "sound bite" to casual fans and websites who haven't followed the comic in a while. In many respects, I miss that since the limitations of trying to sell a new set of toys, the limited number of issues to develop plot threads, basically made Hama (and Furman over on Transformers) be more creative in writing his content than when he had nearly full carte blanche with the current series. I almost equate to the more recent work of John Carpenter and George Lucas: when these guys made their classic films, they did so with VERY limited resources, which inspired creative solutions. When they got tens of millions of dollars, they didn't need to be all that creative to accomplish their goals (and it showed in the work they produced) The best way to "tell IDW what you think" in this situation is simple: buy the damn comic. Don't wait for a price reduction, don't wait for a trade collection, buy it at retail, at full price. Your money carries more weight than any email or forum post.

The newer HISS have appeared in Hama's ARAH.
Honestly, aside from the WORMS/Maggotts in FVL's #1, the appearance from Darklon and IGs just screamed "look, current designs". A soundbite, like Steevy said. I'd prefer they show up for story related reasons. Why make the IGs appear when the IGs don't exist in the IDW-Verse?

I think for the most part this will be confined to the revamped continuity...mostly Van Lente's title. I welcome it.

Hama has stated that arah will utilize new vehicles but other than Jane and Joseph Colton he is sticking with the '82-94 designs. DDP has been disavowed and didn't feature ALL eras though Jerwa really tried. The IDW revamp would continue revamping the more strange characters but use hasbro designs as well that would take the best aspects of all Joe forms of media of the last forty-nine year franchise. I would assume that included upcoming lines. Why Iron Grenadiers? Because they look awesome.
