I've gotten deep into GI Joe over the last few months, and I recently purchased and greatly enjoyed Classics Vol. 1-3. I plan on getting Vol. 4 and beyond anyway, but will I be totally confused if I start on the current ARAH series by Hama?
The furthest I've read were the issues leading into Transformers Generation 2, and through researching various figures to purchase I know a tiny bit about what happens beyond those. |

Except for the final issue, #155, not a lot of important stuff happens after #115 or so. If you can figure out where that is in the TPB numbeting that should help out a bit.

"Hey guys, I just read the first 10 pages of this novel. Am I missing anything important, or can I just skip to the end? Is the ending going to make sense to me?"

But no, in this case you are wrong. You could skip ahead to the IDW ARAH continuation and not be confused. Not much of the near-past gets referenced. Really, the last 40 issues or so of Marvel could be ignored and never read and still be able to get into IDW.

Even though 155 is the last issue of the marvel run...nothing really happens. the Joe team just basically closes up shop. the three issues before it 152-154 are all one shots that are not written by Larry Hama that could have existed pretty much anywhere in the timeline. The first issue of IDW's ARAH, 155 1/2 pretty much continues exactly where issue 151 of the original Marvel run leaves off. I would recommend reading issues 150 and 151 of the marvel run before beginning the IDW run. You will know exactly what's going on at the start of the IDW run.
