Anything inked by Jon D'Agastino was the worst!
I feel sorry for any penciller who's had his work butchered by this arrogant nasty little man! He changes the art according to his own whims and completely buries any poor penciller unfortunate enough to be paired up with this stuttering little dwarf. Not surprisingly he was yanked from the book before too long. I don't know of any penciller who has anything nice to say about this guy's inks. He just sucks. |

I remember hating the art in the special missions preview at the back of issue 50. It hurt my eyes so badly that I didn't actually finish reading it until months after I got it

I liked Phil Gosier, I thought he had a unique style, if a bit cartooney. Frank Springer reminds me alot of Sal Bucema- I like it more as I get older. I forgot about Vosburg but I the first 20 issues are my favorite

I always loved Michael Golden covers and Mark Bright interior art the best.
Some of the early issues I was never a fan of art-wise, but I think they were still getting their legs under them.

The people that did the Cobra Civil War. Great Story, ass art. While I know it was rushed due to the book coming out every 2 weeks but this was really bad, and inconsistent between issues as well.
Hawk Issue 74 Hawk Issue 75 This from issue 75 says it all.

John Statema was the guy who did the Wild Weasel/Ace twopack comic. He had a run during the Benzheen war....and yes, he was quite bad. Quite strange..because he did most of that story arc; an arc which most of us dig. Which raises the age old comic question of "which is more important, the story or the art"?
Tony Salmons was my least favorite, though. He had a splash page close-up of the Blind Master (Zartan in disguise) that looked like a lumpy meatball. A few months after that issue, the letters page defending Salmons saying something like: "most older fans appreciated his work, while younger fans seemed to hate it. That says something". Whatever...I disliked his work when I was younger and I still don't care for it. In Salmons' defense (and as a previous poster pointed out), his work did suffer from a sub-par inking job. Plus, Marvel had some crazy coloring going on at the time, which added to the problems.

I grew to like Tony Salmon's work, but I didn't like it at first. It wasn't until I read the little story in the 4th yearbook called "Bystander." That made me appreciate the art a little more.
I wasn't a huge fan of Lee Weeks, luckily he mostly did covers, and they were some of the most boring ones ever. Marshall Rogers wasn't one of my favorites either, however even his stuff is growing on me lately. What I can not stand is the new technique comics have to display motion, in blur. Blurring looks terrible to me, it literally makes me think I need glasses, it has never appeared to display motion. Plus I absolutely detest how they color comics now, not every comic has to be an airbrushed piece of candy. Whoever is doing the first few new 25th comic pack stuff is terrible. The issue "Silence Between Borders" and "A Bad Day at the Circus." Ummm, human anatomy called, they want their Cobra Trooper face back. :barf: By the way... Ron Wagner was the best!!!!!

I have to check all comics again to determine the worst but I know who is the best: RON WAGNER.
Hama's art kick-ass too. Too bad it's just one ish. Last edited by Pimp Daddy Darklon; 01-25-2009 at 03:07 AM.. |
