I looked around and didn't see anything really about what we know, thematically and plot-wise, about GI Joe, and thought a guide would be helpful. I plan on updating it regularly.
What we know: GI Joe (the team) "Confirmed" Roster (interviews and #0) - Hawk (#0) - Duke (#0) CORE TEAM MEMBER - Scarlett (interviews, issue covers) - Flint (#0) CORE TEAM MEMBER - Snake Eyes (interviews, promotional art, issue covers) - Torpedo (#0) - Beachhead (#0) CORE TEAM MEMBER - Chuckles (#0) - Roadblock/Heavy Duty (promotional art, see below) - Lady Jaye (interview) - Rock N' Roll (interview) CORE TEAM MEMBER - Ripcord (interview) CORE TEAM MEMBER - Dial Tone (Wizard magazine) *Of note, and this can be considered speculation, there have only been 10 characters revealed so far, and it may be that the team will begin with a similar "Original 13" approach, though with different members. *UPDATED: While it has yet to be confirmed, Roadblock may be going by the codename Heavy Duty, which was originally an "unrelated" character. At the very least, this "Heavy Duty" has a design based on V2 Roadblock, sans sleeves. CONFIRMED IN INTERVIEW WITH PENCILER. *Snake Eyes will have a costume similar to V2. The artist stated he considers Snake Eyes to be "incomplete" without both commando and ninja training, and he outfit should reflect that. *Duke was involved in an attack that left his squad decimated (we know this location only as "Trucial-" as Duke is interrupted) before he was recruited to the Joe roster. He is declared "KIA" in order to join the team. He has a sister. *Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow's rivalry will be intact in the series (issue covers), though that is a given. *Chuckles is the agent infiltrating Cobra in the Cobra miniseries. *There will be more of an emphasis on making Duke and Hawk different. *There will be less emphasis on individual characters (such as Snake Eyes). Duke, Hawk and Scarlett are said to carry most of the emotional weight of the series (interview). *The world will no longer revolve around Snake Eyes (lol), as not every character (on the side of Cobra AND Joe) will be tied to him. *Hawk's costume is based on his leather jacket figure according to promotional images (sketches). However, the cover for G.I. Joe: Origins #1 has what looks like Hawk in familiar green military dress displayed, and Hawk wears this outfit in the preview (#0) when recruiting Duke. *Scarlett now has pants, and will not have a leotard. She still retains chest armor, however. *As of yet, there have been no mention of Stalker, the original Joe recruited. *UPDATE!!! Snake Eyes is said to "oppose" the Joe team in Manila according to the solicitation provided by Tank member Zanzibar. * UPDATE!!! Thanks to Cable-Nathan for the interview snippet!(Love the forum name, btw way) Snake Eyes is considered a lone wolf and is not part of the initial core team. The initial core team will include Duke, Rock N' Roll, Beachhead, Flint and Ripcord. Scarlett is head of the Joe team's intelligence, and it is said she and Duke have a history. * UPDATE!! Dial Tone is a female in the new GI Joe comic. Cobra/Cobra Command "Confirmed" Roster - Destro (promotional art/issue covers) - Baroness (promtional art) - Cobra Commander (interview, promotional art) UPDATED - Tomax/Xamot? (see below) - Storm Shadow - Zartan (interviews) - Serpentor? (interview) *A man in a blue suit with red highlights can be seen working for (what is almost assuredly) Cobra in #0, and this may (or may not) be one of the twins. *UPDATED: Cobra Commander's involvement is not completely understood as of now. We know, according to interviews, that Hama and the other writers have come up with someone who, quote, "outbads Destro and Cobra Commander". In further comments in other interviews, it is hinted that fans may not see a certain "familiar hood or helmet", and it is also hinted that the Commander's involvement with Cobra (if any) may not be what fans are used to. However, there have been promotional images relating to the comic series with a familiar hooded face with what can only be described as mad, hate-filled eyes. Cobra Commander appears in a 2 page ad for the comic series, and he is confirmed to be drawn by a penciler in HISStank's recent interview. *The Baroness has been updated from the "librarian" look, and given a(n even) more streamlined costume, with combat boots replacing the high heels. *According to interviews, we are told we can expect some new threats that can be considered "from the real world". *Raptor can be counted on "not to make an appearance". *(UPDATED) As of the sketches produced with #0, Destro's look is a "work in progress". As of now, his look can be most related to that of America's Elite. The artist has stated that his "Flava Flav" pendant had to "go", but the jewel looks to be on his collar. Destro's "enormous red collar" may yet make an appearance, however, as the artist states he has a friend "all about them". HOWEVER, in a more recent picture, Destro's outfit has a much bigger collar, reminicient of his standard costume. It is sharper and could be considered more regal, and is less of a "tube". *Storm Shadow (this is for you, Shin, lol) is on the side of the snakes, though his origin is as of yet unrevealed. We do not know if he will have his tragic storyline intact, or if he will be completely evil. *While Cobra La is "most unlikely" not to appear, there has been no definitive confirmation that Serpentor will not appear in some form. Hama has admitted his appearance is possible. *UPDATE!!! As seen in a two-page painted ad for the upcoming series, Cobra Commander appears to wear a blue hood with red trim designs. *UPDATE!! According to Issue 2's solicitation, the Joes encounter Destro for the first time in Issue 2. Overall *The series will be more realistic. Expect deaths. *Hasbro will have "less" influence, and as such, the writers and artists will have more freedom. *Larry Hama and the other writers have planned out a decent portion of the series planned arcs. *There has been no confirmation or even lengthy discussion (with the press or public, at least) about a G.I. Joe/Transformer cross-over. *There will be a DIFFERENT movie continuity series (likely multiple) leading up to, adapting, and following the movie. No info has been publicly released yet about these books to avoid spoilers (though people here on Hisstank are already quite well informed ;P ). Update: Solicitation for issue 2, provided by Zanzibar- A team of Joes in Manila is hot on the trail of an international arms dealer, but find themselves opposed by... Snake Eyes? Back in The Pit, a new enemy reaches from across the world to strike at the home base of the Joes. This is their first encounter with Destro... and maybe their last. Featuring a special Adam Hughes "Baroness" variant cover! These are some of the big points so far. If you have any comments or anything I've missed, please, PLEASE post! I remember in an early interview Larry Hama said when asked about Serpentor that we may see a take on him. So deffenitly not ruled out (though not deffinitly in either)

No offense, but this should have been done up after the first couple issues of the series are out. Too much speculation still. The only things set in stone right now are:
-Chuckles is the undercover Joe -Duke had to be KIA to join the Joes -Duke, Flint, Beach Head and Torpedo are a 4-man team that first hears whispers of Cobra. You can assume that the 4 are Joes at that point, since Duke was given that name by Hawk when he was recruited. Beyond those points we know nothing. Can't really go off of the cover images and promotional art, alot of that stuff is produced before the story elements are set in stone. Intereviews aren't reliable either, that can change. When Joe was first announced, with Hama being the only writer, he said in an interview that the first line-up would be similar to the movie with Ripcord and Heavy Duty. Then the 1 series became 3 and Hama is doing the origin series and not the main series. Torpedo, Beach Head and Flint weren't part of Hama's original line-up. Things change. Still not enough concrete info out there.

*Chuckles is the agent infiltrating Cobra in the Cobra miniseries. Of note is no mention of him in the regular series as of yet (as in, no reference to him being on the team during interviews with writers and artists, or issue covers), which could lead to speculation that he does not survive the ordeal or perhaps is disillusioned afterwards.
How about there's been no mention of him in the regular series because it hasn't come out yet and maybe the writers don't want to spoil what happens in the Cobra mini-series. How about waiting until the series comes out and we get some more facts before we start the speculation.

Right, there's too many options to even try to take a guess. More then likely, since he is an undercover agent and not a frontline soldier, he wouldn't have a spot in the main book except showing up here and there to deliver some intelligence to Hawk.

Took away what I would have called "educated guesses". Troynos, we know more than just three things.
