Alright, I am pretty new to GI joe. I've had the "Real American Hero" movie since forever, but never pursued beyond that. However, after watching Renegades I recieved an active interest in the whole series.
Now, I've been looking online for some time now trying to figures out what to get. I'm trying to get the original 155 comics. I'm pretty sure I have the correct thing to buy: Amazon.com: G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, Vol. 1 (GI Joe) (Marvel) (9780785109013): Larry Hama, Herb Trimpe: Books But, I want to make sure I'm not wasting my money. I want the original 1982 comics, not the new IDW ones. If these are not it, can anyone tell me where I can find them? Also, are these comics in order from 1-50? |

It's 1-10. Idw has the right and is about to put them out in hard covers.

Yep you're on the right track, IDW has been releasing the original Marvel comic series in TPB form, they're up to volume 14 and I think volume 15 is the last released later this year. Just so you know the original series ran from 1982 to 1994 so anything after that is either from Dark Horse, Devils Due and IDW.
And just so you have the correct series, this list breaks down the various Marvel comic series. G.I.Joe #1-155 G.I.Joe Special Missions #1-28 G.I.Joe Yearbooks #1-4 Tales Of G.I.Joe #1-15 (these were reprints of the regular Marvel series on higher quality paper) Order Of Battle #1-4 G.I.Joe European Missions #1-?? (reprints of British Action Force) G.I.Joe vs. Transformers #1-4 (doesn't fit into Larry Hama's continuity but it's a nice nostalgic trip) IDW continued the numbering left from Marvel with a #155 1/2 and so on. |

Thank for the quick reply!
So, after I buy these five volumes I have to purchase each comic individually? Or is this thing exactly what I need? Sorry for appearing slow, but I want to triple check everything after everything I've been seeing on the web. http://www.amazon.com/G-I-JOE-Comple...4493039&sr=1-1 Last edited by Anarchy1999; 04-19-2012 at 12:37 AM.. |

I would advise against getting the ones that marvel put out because they never finished, but IDW's have problems as well. Volume 1 left out the back up story from issue 1 and some of them were reprinted with typos (i. e. the "gold" war)

Thanks a lot. I was confused with the whole "classic" gi joe comics based on someone's comment that they weren't the original series. But this put me back on track. So again, thanks for the help.
