Even tho i've been out of the whole comic book collecting thing for a long time now i still visit shops here and there with friends that still collect.well today while at one i came across some old "Joe" comics that were in the dollar bin.Issue after issue i finally came across #155 and knew i had something special!even tho it wasnt backboarded in plastic, its condition was near immaculate.WOW!!!What the hell was this doing in the dollar bin!?!Could the owner and his son be this ignorant as to what they had in there!?anyway i downplayed my excitement and proceeded to checkout when my boy standing next to me did the "HOLY SHIT" face seeing what i had found(again from the dollar bin) lol!
Anyway im seriously thinking about gettin this comic graded cuz it really is in that great of condition.ive seen prices on EBAY range from not graded(v/g-v/f) at $150 to $769 graded at 9.8 which is the highest rating u can get.i believe mine can be a 9 at worst. So after all is said and done i guess what im trying to get at is how much is this issue really worth???

More than you paid, less than you hope. Ten years ago, probably a lot more, but by the end of the year it will have been reprinted and demand will decline.

Yeah that answer there sounds bout' right lol!Reprints in the form of graphic novelization, amongst other factors is somewhat killing the joy and satisfaction of collecting(sighs).

Why? There have always been reprints in trade paperback form.
Years past it wasn't every issue, just the major issues, the ones you'd want to collect anyways. Nowadays it's every issue.

I paid £30 for a NM copy ten years ago and that's my limit!

Again, how are reprints killing collecting?
Reprints have always been around. Nothing has changed in that regard. In fact, it's probably just the opposite. With the publishers reprinting every issue in trade form, and more people waiting to get the trade, that would make the monthly issues more valuable since there would be fewer of them. Monthly comics are a loss leader. It's really the trades where the publishers make most of their money.

Except no one wants the floppies anymore. Maybe in the long run collection single issues at the end of the era is a good investment, but for the current market tpb is where the money is.

What market for TPBs? There's little to no return on investment. Maybe some of the older ones from the 80s and 90s, back before they started Trading every issue. Some of the older ones maybe, but not anything new. Too much of 'em out there and they get reprinted too often.
The comics market is a pretty empty space nowadays. But then, comics aren't meant to be a short term investment anyways. The only things that have quick turn around and could make some money would be variant and rare covers.

The new market for one. B&N have exponentially increased the size of their shelf space in the last few years. Individually if you are looking to make money what you want is second tier books from major companies. Something with just enough release so someone cares, but not enough so everyone buys it. There were plenty of Buffy books you could sell for $30-50, at least before everyone forgot about Buffy.
