Hmm....funny you should start this thread, I have one thru one hundred twenty, then missing some here and there after that. And I was wondering what they are worth. All bagged and boxed for the last I dont even know how long. Who knows of a good way to find out what the value of certain issues would be out there?

genreally comics are only worth what someone is willing to pay.
especially stuff from the 80's/90's. even if you go by price guides, like overstreet, or wizard, expect to only get maybe 15 to 20% of what it's listed at. Metro you might have a slightly better shot if you sold it as a bulk collection. and Frakk, Single issues are really hard to move on their own.

Issue #2 maxed out at around $40 back around 1990 or so, but doesn't go for much these days (from what I've seen)... There is also a second printing that came in the comic 3-packs and that one I purchased sealed with the 2 other comics for less than $5 if I remember correctly

Comic value is like someone said here, "its what someone's willing to pay. The 2008 Comic Book Price guide by Overstreet listes G.I. Joe #2 by Marvel 1982 from $20-28. This is for a VF to NM grade.
Yet, Overstreet takes a variety of sources for their value. Much is reports of sales from comic stores and online retailers. Yet, ebay could have this issue sell for as little as $5 to $40 if someone really wants it bad! as for most issues from #1-120 or so are only valued at $2-$7. The most expensive issues are #152, 153, 154 155. These are low print runs and also were the beginning of the end for Marvel's run. #152= $10-15 #153= $15-20 #154=$20-30 and #155 can go as high as $80. Theses are all based on VF to NM grade. |

The most expensive now are, as mentioned, the #150 thru #155 (155 being by far the highest), as well as the Special Issue which was a reprint of #61 or 62 I think, only with a McFarlane SE cover in very much a Spiderman pose. That puppy can run $100 to as high as $300 depending on the grade (ballpark). Oddly the Free Comic Book Day #155 1/2 (a "prequel" if you will to #156 & Hama taking the series back over again) is fairly decent I believe.
Oh the other monster is the Giant Sized Marvel Treasury Edition of GI Joe #1. |

In the height of Joe-mania, circa 1985, I clearly remember some comic shops hanging issue 2 on the wall behind their register and tagging it with a $100 sticker!
I don't think anybody ever actually paid that much for it, but it was astonishing. Honestly, nowadays, you'd be lucky to get $10 for it.

I was shocked to find it in a discount box in 1992. I even checked to make sure it was a first printing before paying the $1 asking price.
I think the myth of its value was due in a large part to those comic store advertisements that never changed the asking price.
