In the year in review section in the latest issue, Wizard says that Cobra Commander's ruthless killing and crucifixion of Billy, his son, is one of the best moments in comics is the 2008.
First they proclaim Snake Eyes the 12th best comic character of all time, and Cobra Commander in the early-fifties, and now this! Looks like GI Joe is really starting to hit the limelight again! |

I really would disagree. that scene was terrible and one of the most obvious signs that Devils Due had the license at least one year longer than they should have.
CC would have never killed his own son. Billy was one of the commander's few weaknesses in the marvel series... the reason he gave up command of cobra at one time. I absolutely hate when new writers come along and think they are gonna change the work of the original creator. |

I would guess a lot of this would have to do with the current staff being around the age to have grown up with Joe. I remember reading Wizard during the 90's, and that generation of staff grew up in the 70's. So they went on a lot about Star Wars and 70's Marvel comics back then.

I absolutely hate when new writers come along and think they are gonna change the work of the original creator. Except he did try to kill Billy once in the Marvel run, when he locked him in the land locked freighter... And Cobra Commander had really lost it by World War 3. I also loved when he shot Billy earlier in the first DDP run as well... "No one is going to shoot my son... except me"

Ddp had its problems, but they did right by the joeverse and its fans overall.

This was one of the top moments in ALL of comics over 2008?
Whether you agree, or liked it or not, G.I.Joe is being talked about! Very cool.
