I vividly remembering picking up Devil's Due's GI Joe #1 exactly a decade ago. It came out the day after 9/11 and eerily enough had a very patriotic cover (along with US War Machine that came out the same day).
I still enjoyed the 80's retro franchises then but Josh Blaylock totally reignited my love for GI Joe with this comic. |

That's crazy. I can't believe it's been that long (or that it came out that week).
I still have the print that DD was handing out at SDCC that summer signed by all the guys at their booth. It was the first I heard of the new book and I remember telling Josh Blaylock how stoked I was that it was coming out and that the cover was amazing. |

Weird. I vividly recall driving through heavy traffic over to Liverpool, the only place with a comic shop, to pick this up (actually, I bought three copies) and rushing back with excitement to read it. Enjoyed it too.
Can't remember what I had for tea last night though...

Time flies. And now they are finally reprinting them in trade paperback. I loved the DDP run when it started. They got away from their initial premise though, which I think hurt the book. The Joes were older and training a new generation of Joes, as it should have been. Then suddenly they all look just like they did in the old book, and they brought back every conceivable Joe. At least they had the guts to kill off major characters. I wish Hasbro would have let DDP keep going. I wasn't impressed with IDW's run.

For all it's faults, I considered the Devil's Due run to be a lot of fun. IDW has killed Joe in comic form for me (bar the Hama continuation, but that seems relatively free from their hatchet).

God, I'm old...ten years, damn that went by quick.
I loved the DDP Joe comics, and also wish they still had the rights to it. Right now the only thing IDW has going is the whole Civil War arc and to my surprise the Snake Eyes books are the best one.

Thats another big problem for me.I like DDP alot,so part of me doesn't add the Hama 155+ storys cause it throws the DDP stuff out.
