Though I will say, aside from the Helix nonsense, it was a fairly enjoyable issue. Nothing stellar, but solid, and entertaining for the most part. I think I've been ruined by the Chuckles arc in Cobra, and the Monk arc in Origins. Now that we've seen what can really be done with Joe, the standard run of the mill stories just don't seem to cut it anymore. :/

it felt like hama writing and helix has gotten REALLY old already. the story was okay and passable, setting up for more so i can't totally hate on it, it just felt too short.
the bad art doesn't help, what's up with IDW and their inconsistency in decent artists? this guy can't draw faces for anything. at least with atkins, it depends on the inker at times but at least he's improving, it's always a bummer to see awesome pencils and then see the finished product and go "it looked so much better in the pencils stage, what the hell happened!?" but this saltares guy, his art is just bad. it's definitely not worth the 3.99...

The art was really bad. There was one panel where DT looked completely disfigured. It was freakin' bizarre. These books are capable of so much, and we've seen what Joe as a property was capable of when Gage and Costa were together on the Cobra run. I don't get why he's throwing that away to churn out the same basic "See Duke Run" stories that you can get over in ARAH.

I think this is somewhat correct. Although, I wouldn't put it squarely on Dixon. I think the powers that be at IDW saw the initial strong support that ARAH had and felt the need to ramp up the action over in the reboot. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the entire reasoning behind developing season 2 was to appease the more vocal critics of IDW's reboot.

Even if Dixon had been asked to ramp up the action, that really doesn't mean he needs to be short on the story and suspense. Just find a way to spread the action out. Joe, more then any other book, always seemed tailor made for that type of story to me. One month you could have a team in the arctic investigating reports of a downed satellite and a para-military unit. The next a team tracking down who is supplying terrorists with weapons in the desert. Just make the pieces harder to connect. I liked the slow pace. However, they could have done it just as effectively and still have had action. To me, those concerns should have been taken care of with Hama getting ARAH back, though. Now we've got two solidly written, but fairly superficial books in the IDW Joe-verse with the corebook, and SE. Plus, Hama is still churning out what he does. I had originally worried that bringing Cobra more into the main plotline of the Joe-verse would hurt it's quality. However, with these first few issues it seems that it's just making the difference in the quality of storytelling that much more obvious. It's really not helping the other two books look good when you go from a plot about a traitor within the Joe ranks, and the sinister behind the scenes machinations of Baroness one week, to watching Zartan run aroudn the Pit and beat up the Joes' cooks and security guards the next. Atleast to me, anyway. :/

According to the Yo Joe comic summary, Short Fuze and Barrel Roll made their first IDW appearances in this issue. Where am I missing them? I've read it several times & their names are not mentioned.

I believe a poster named Antartica is responsible for those updates. Might want to post on the Yo Joe forums or over on the IDW boards and ask him.
