So I understand this wasn't written by Larry Hama (Story and Art by Herb Trimpe), but how could they get things so wrong?? It was like suddenly I was reading another comic, except a poorly written and illustrated one.
/facepalm #1: page 6, the last pane on the page: Yes, you saw right. That speech bubble is coming from all three of the Joes below, including Snake-Eyes. /facepalms #2-4: page 15, bottom of the page: First of all, I skipped a bunch of facepalms because if I were to point out every stupid, annoying phrase that Storm Shadow said up to this point I'd never be done. However, there are three things to point out here: 1. Snake Eyes is a Ninja. And he was considered one of the Arashikage's "own". And he's always used an Uzi. So...WTF is Storm Shadow on about? 2. Did you notice Storm Shadow is actually saying all of that, rather than thinking it (this goes on for a long time in the coming pages)? Is it really smart to let your opponent know you've lost track of who's who? Where is the Storm Shadow who was quiet and deadly? 3. STORM SHADOW HAS THE EAR THAT SEES LOLZOMGWTFBBQKFC! You think he can't tell the difference between a heartbeat and a "click, click"? /facepalm #5: page 21, bottom of the page: So Scarlett had pretended (over audio) to be a bot and to capture Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow...and not only did they fool Cobra Commander ("Scale Face", really Herb?), but they also managed to figure out how to reprogram the bots to...WAIT WHUUUUH??? WTF? Why did they have to use the bots at all, if they were just going to jump down from behind them and kill them? This makes absolutely no sense at all, they could have just pretended to be taken prisoner. They didn't need the bots (and there was no computer specialist around to reprogram them). /facepalm #6, where it's all explained. Look back to panel #1. Storm Shadow isn't even Asian. In fact, that looks more like Grunt. That's right, Grunt is in Storm Shadow's uniform. That makes it all OK. The hell it does! Herb Trimpe, you owe me 45 minutes of my life back. ROTFL!!! Yes, gn0s1s, you have successfully identified and pointed out that the original Marvel run of the G.I.Joe series got ridiculously lame towards the end! I have not yet gotten as far into the series as issue #119 (I'm only up to issue #110) but yeah, the stories have been getting dumber, the scripting and the art progressively worse. I was disappointed to find that issue #109--and issue which could have been so momentous and strong--was marred so badly by horrible writing, plotting, and even worse artwork. But I tip my hat to you--the panels you have pointed out take the cake.

No, he couldn't "sort of talk", he said one word under extreme circumstances during the whole run. Unless you count the obvious error in panel #1 as correct, which would make the two words he uttered in the entire run "Scarlett" (in an intensely emotional moment) and "When?" (while just sitting around in the briefing room). Not only would that throw out 118 issues of backstory carefully constructed to show that he couldn't easily speak because of his injuries from the helicopter crash, but the second instance would severely diminish the dramatic impact of the first. Either way, balls.

The first facepalm is not the fault of the writer. It's the letterer who put the word balloon and the editor for not noticing and catching it.
Get it right who ya blame As for the rest.. Joe was not a book that used captions, so all the "thoughts" had to be spoken aloud.

I'm not sure what your talking about....there is no issue #119...it goes from #118 directly to #120....I could never figure out why that is, but never the less they skipped that number.
Say it with me and make it happen....there was no #119. lol |

Literally #119 is the only issue I didn't enjoy, yes I even enjoyed those later issues where Roadblock was on the plane, and Scarlett fought the BAT...maybe not the greatest but it was to see those characters on solo adventures...which is what I wish we would get all the time, maybe a quarterly book with 4 solo adventures of less used characters.

The later issues did lose a lot of what made the Joe comics special, however the Baskerville / Wildman artwork is my favourite art from the whole run.
As for your facepalms, you read the SS uzi comments incorrectly. Storm Shadow is not refering to Snake Eyes but himself, many times in the marvel run Stormy made comments about shunning modern firearms completely for the use of ancient weapons. When he refers to the necessity of using the uzi, he means his necessity, as he has lost his swords.
