Written by: Mike Raicht
Art by: Giovanni Timpano Colors by: J. Brown Letters by: Chris Mowry Cover Art: A- John K. Synder III w/ Jason Wright; B- Giovanni Timpano w/ J. Brown Assistant Editor: Bobby Curnow Editor: Andy Schmidt The second and final chapter in G.I. Joe's part of the Infestation event. I'm still glad that there are no zombies. The cybernetic take over of Doctor Zych is close to the edge, but it doesn't go over. Raicht nails the morals of the Cobras perfectly. They'll go along until they have a chance to escape. The Baroness is at her ruthless best. The story is relatively simple. Find the arm, from the first issue, and destroy the virus before it can escape the Cobra installation and take over the world. Basic plot, but Raicht does good with it, making the personalities of those involved the primary focus. He even gives the nameless Vipers a bit of personality. Most times, the Vipers get generic lines if they get any at all. But Raicht takes time to give them lines that show personality. He also seems to go against most horror movie and sci-fi movie conventions. The "Red Shirt" in this case, the Viper, survives until the end. It was a nice touch. The real star of this issue is Timpano's art. His BATs are incredibly creepy with an organic look to them. The transformed Dr. Zych is extremely scary looking. A human melded with machines gone wrong. His style worked great for this story. His rough line work gave it all the creepiness that a story of man vs machine would normally have lacked. G.I. Joe Infestation #2 receives 4 out of 5 Really glad there were no zombies.

Add Zych to the list of cool looking Joe characters that will never get a figure!
As for the book, I liked it. I have completly ignored all other aspects of Infestation and it is easy to do with this tale. It reads with just the right touch of mild science fiction that Joe always has. I just don't worry about were that arm came from. Last edited by Jay West; 03-16-2011 at 10:15 PM.. |

Really liked how the Vipers were used in this issue.

I dug this a lot too for all the reasons listed above. I'd be happy to see this team, or a similar one do work on the regular Joe books - there is a creepiness that is somewhat reminiscent of the Cobra series.
They've avoided the temptation to cast too many Joes and Cobras as cameos - the ones who are there, especially Psyche Out and Baroness really drive the plot. I'm very glad I gave this a chance. Last edited by Stormgard; 03-18-2011 at 01:06 PM.. |

I read it not expecting much. good story really, and it shows IDW is not afraid to off minor characthers if the story needs to.
Do you think Raptor (the bird) got out? and his handler? it was a nod to the ARAH Raptor or it's just my imagination? |

This isn't part of any other continuty (or is it?) Offing characters shouldn't really make an difference one way or other.

It's never been stated if it's part of the official IDW continuity or not.
But the nice thing is they set it up so it could fit into the continuity. If they had put zombies into it, then there's no way it would have (or should have) fit into established IDW continuity. But this way, it can.

After a long absence from comics I made my way back into my local comic shop and was fortunate enough to pick this issue up.
The characterization of the Baroness was perfect. She was in full on sexy evil bitch mode. While I am not fan of this kind of artwork I think it adds to the story and gives an overall creepy vibe. Guilty Pleasure - I always hated a certain Joe and I like how it ends...although in a zombie book I doubt that wil be the last we see of him. Very excited about #3... |

There is no #3 Flint. Just the 2 issues. Joe's Infestation Crossover is done.
No Zombies in the Joe book, so the Joe is dead and will stay dead.

I liked that as well. They were developed as real people (joking, helping each other etc.). I even felt for the poor s.o.b. whom Baroness capped.
Speaking of the Baroness, am I the only one thinking she was even scarier than the BATS? I actually was worried about Interrogator being confined with her. Last edited by maczero; 03-21-2011 at 03:35 PM.. |
