I saw on the news a couple nights ago that ebay will no longer be letting sellers leave negative feedback on their buyers. Buyers however will still be able to leave their feedback. I don't have any idea when this is supposed to take place, i missed that part. How do you think this will affect Ebay, or do you think it will???

I understand why it's happening but I think they are cutting there own throats by going through with it. It handcuffs the seller and leaves them comp, letely at the mercy of the buyer. I buy and sell on ebay and I have only had one person leave me negative feedback. It was almost 2 months after the fact and was totally unwarranted and didn't even make sense. The buyer wanted me to write an additional address (out of the country) on the outside of the shipping package for some reason. I shipped it in country and stated clearly in the auction that I don't ship internationally. The jerk left me negative feedback on a "mint" item that was well packed and shipped just because he tried to sidestep the guidelines of the auction and I didn't bite. My only recourse as a seller was to leave him negative feedback for trying to be a sneaky, overseas buyer and to hopefully warn other sellers about this jerk! Now ebay is robbing sellers of that and I believe it will scare many sellers away. As a seller I don't like the idea of having my feedback tarnished by the whims of an incoherent or infantile buyer. Swaf says , no thanks!

I'm personally glad they're doing it, because I know lots of buyers that leave negative feedback immediately get slammed by the seller with a negative just because the seller is angry. I bought a pack of comics from a seller and he didn't send my items out for nearly a month and a half, and I kept trying to contact him and he wouldn't respond. So, finally when I got the comics, I left negative feedback, and in less than a few hours he'd made up a total lie about me and left me negative feedback, and to this day its the only negative I've had.
I applaud eBay for doing this. |

that is totally sad and ridiculous.
that's like saying the buyer can do no wrong. please, i can give you a list of the crap i encountered as a seller. i , for one, won't be selling anymore if this takes place. just watch the problems this will create. |

I understand there is a protest over this happening now or soon. It involves buyers and selling not using ebay at all for a certain amount of time.

I think this will negatively impact eBay's bottom line, and they'll eventually make a revision to their plans.
I can agree with both sides of the argument, and can also see the faults in both sides. As a seller, I try my best not to give my buyer's a reason to leave me a negative. That being said, as of late, I don't leave feedback until it's received mainly because people are too lazy to return in. does it make it right? Not at all. I'm childish like that though. As a buyer, I've gone the route of not leaving feedback at all, because the minute you leave a negative for a seller that is rightfully deserved, they tend to turn right around and retaliate with feedback just to make it seem as though it's "you" that's wrong. All that said...I know I won't be selling on eBay anymore. |

E, that's not childish at all, it's understandably right.
people rarely leave feedback anymore, it's only fair to expect it right after auction end. if i don't get feedback, i will never leave feedback (as a seller). as a buyer i leave feedback immediately, unless there is a problem. i try to reconcile with the buyer, and 100% of the time, i have had no problem. in all....i'm down with a little protest! if people had more unity you'd be shocked at the power we have. ::raises fist:: |

I somewhat agree with this move. As a buyer, your end of the deal is to pay as soon as possible for the auction. I always pay the day I win an auction but I never receive feedback until I have left it for the seller. Kind of lame because regardless of what happens next, if I payed on time I should get the positive feedback right then because I held my end of the deal. But if I never receive the item or it takes weeks (sometimes months!) to get the item then that's negative feedback for the seller. But chances are if you (the buyer) leave negative feedback about the seller, they will also counter you with a negative (even though you payed the day it ended! What else is the buyer suppose to do?) I have dealt with a few sellers that didn't even send out my item for at least 6 weeks after payment. Sorry, that's bad service and worthy of at the very least, neutral feedback. But I shouldn't have to pay for the seller's faults by also receiving bad feedback. My point is - the buyer earns positive feedback for paying quickly. The seller should only earn positive feedback for shipping the item in the same manner.

I don't see how negative feedback affects the buyer, really. Sometimes Neg feedback for the seller is out of spite, and not indicative of how the transaction went through. The non paying bidder strikes, Ebay levies against deadbeat bidders is the way to go. I had a deadbeat bidder on a XBox game a few months ago who flat ass refused to buy the item. They said it wasn't fair of me to force them to buy the item that they bought from another seller (even though they were also the winning bidder of my auction). The buyer didn't understand the process. I filed the nonpayning bidder dispute and let Ebay refund my sellers fees. I didn't dare leave neg feedback (or any feedback) for the buyer for fear that they would harm my feedback in retaliation. I put the dirt bag on my block list and went on about my business. I don't think it will affect anything and in the long run protect a lot of feedback ratings from spitefull retaliation by dirtbags.
