I?m looking forward to getting these in hand and seeing how they look with my M48 Patton and M113 apc. Not to mention, more Germans!
Yeah, I can see a lot of 80s Joe customs from the Army Rifleman figure alone. I know that the 3D digital model doesn't necessarily represent the final sculpt, but one thing I hope they do (or have done - I'm sure the sculpts have been finalized by now) is give the Army torso the shorter collar like in the 2D drawings. The 3D digital model has a more wider (flap-looking) collar, which is closer to the WW2 Marine and Army jacket designs; whereas the Vietnam-era fatigue shirt (with bloused pockets) had a shorter collar.
I mentioned this in my prior post, but one thing I noticed with the 3D models is that the Rifleman and Green Beret have similar shirt designs with a more open collar. The 2D drawing of the Green Beret has a button-up shirt with the top (collar) unbuttoned. From the original 2D drawings, it appears that (originally) there were 4 basic, US Vietnam shirt-torso designs: Army Rifleman (angled pockets), Marine Rifleman (straight pockets), Seal (buttoned collar), LRRP/Green Beret (unbuttoned collar). Honestly, I didn't/don't expect Marauders to have 4 distinctive torsos for basically the same uniform. I would like to see
some
variety in sculpting though (not just in paint schemes). So, I am hoping that Marauder at least gives us two different (basic) shirt designs: angled/bloused pockets (Army) and straight pockets (Marine) [I'm not counting the Sailor, Pilots, etc.]
Likewise, from the original KS 2D drawings, it appears that there are 4 different camouflage designs: SEAL (light green, brown, black), LRRP (light green, tan, grey), Green Beret (green, light green, black), and ERDL. I wouldn't be surprised somewhere through the process if one or two of these color schemes were dropped (remember each mock-up specifies "colors may vary"); but I really hope we get at least three different camo designs/color schemes (SEAL, Green Beret, & ERDL).
I know MJ has been secretive on releasing images, but at this stage in the project, I think we are beyond worrying about anyone stealing his design ideas (I mean the 2D designs were detailed enough). The secrecy is getting a little bit "Willie Wonka" with the Everlasting Gobstopper. So, I am hoping that we get some actual prototype pics soon and some more 3D digital models.
One last thing, once the KS products are released, anyone who is a WW2 fan and would like to work a trade for a German Paratrooper, just shoot me a PM. I'll be keeping the US Airborne figure to make a custom Duke Tiger Force, but I'm not interested at all with the German Paratrooper and I'll be looking to trade him off for another Vietnam figure.
