I have a Target experience that I need to relate here. I feel as though you all will understand.
Target issued me a new RedCard, and I hesitated to activate it because I feared that exactly what did end up happening would happen. At the time of activation, I had 17 preorders (including the Python Patrol/Tiger Force figures). For many that sold out in seconds, I jumped through figurative hoops to get the orders in.
As soon as I activated my card (a day or two before the threat of no longer having one kicked in), I called customer service and asked if I would have to do anything about my preorders. I was told emphatically that I didn't have to worry and that they would all be fine.
I then started getting threatening emails that if I didn't update my orders, things would get cancelled in three days. I jumped online and updated my card. When I checked the other 16 orders, the listings showed the updated information. There was no way for me to do anything further after changing it once.
This morning, two orders were cancelled. One was for two TVC Boba Fetts, which are out of stock and cannot be reordered. Customer service (I'll get to them in a moment) says I'm screwed there.
I started talking to customer service at 7:40 (ironically from the parking lot of Target while I waited for the store to open). I was on the phone with them from that time until about 9:30. I spoke to three levels of employees, who over the course of that conversation went through the fifteen orders that I had left and assured me that each and every one was now updated with my current RedCard information. However, I only ever got five emails saying that the orders were updated. When I asked why I wasn't getting the other ten, the supervisor I was speaking with assured me that they would be coming later. She promised me that all was well.
I began class at 10:00. Around 11:15, I gave them a break and checked my email. I saw three emails from Target and thought that I had gotten three more update confirmations. Nope. Three more threatening emails that things would be cancelled on Friday (my birthday) if I didn't update my information. At least one of these were the Tiger Force/PP figures.
I tried calling between my classes and immediately asked for the Escalation Department (their term, not mine). I was disconnected (accidentally) and didn't have time to call back.
When I called back after class and got to the same department, another lady checked the ten orders and informed me that they were not updated (WHY WAS I LIED TO EARLIER???). She then told me that she couldn't update them in her system. She had to create a work order (marked Urgent so that it gets addressed tomorrow) to have someone else go into the system and update the account with the new RedCard information.
She assured me that since it is marked Urgent, I should get confirmation that all ten orders have been updated by tomorrow, thus saving me the indignity of having three irreplaceable orders cancelled the morning of my birthday. After at least three hours on the phone with Target today, I cannot say that I have much faith in this.
(Tangentially related to this, my wife spent four hours after dinner tonight with T Mobile customer service because the new phone she got me couldn't text anyone who didn't have an iPhone. Everyone is very happy in the household tonight).
