China has wanted to invade Taiwan since 1950. While they have had a massive land army, they didn't have ability to project that power on water.

Until they bought a Russian aircraft carrier, the Varyag, from the Ukrainians, to make a floating casino but the casino became the Liaoning.

Yes, China previously bought the HMAS Melbourne and actually scrapped it but not before extensive study.

The Liaoning allowed the Chinese to accelerate their domestic carrier program and build a second ship, the Shandong.

So they have two carrier battle groups. The third ship is almost complete and the four is under construction.

While not as proficient in carrier operations as the US Navy, they are enough of a threat in the South China sea just based on proximity alone.

It is not a matter of if, only when China retakes Taiwan.


Another reason to isolate China, and should have been done long ago, is the continual theft of intellectual property and technology. The J-20 stealth fighter was developed with stolen information. Honeywell gave China the information in violation of ITAR.

Boeing has given China technical information, not just for construction but the development behind the construction that is transferable from civil to military use.

China bought the S-70C Blackhawk and then made their own copies the Z-20.


Also China has breached the hand-over treaty with the UK over Hong Kong twice. The last time resulted in limited sanctions against specific Chinese officials.


The Ukraine, fun place that is, fought for both sides in WW1. Part with Russia and the other with Austro-Hungry.


This is like digging in a landfill the deeper you go the bigger the mess.

We never finished the Korean War, botched Iraq and Afghanistan, still haven't properly dealt with Iran and have ignored the situation in Yemen. There is the continuing mess in Ethiopia and no one cares one bit about the Sudan.

So honestly, why is the Ukraine so important that we are going to bankrupt our economy over it?

Yes, Russia enter the Ukraine without permission. Guess what. We have hundreds of people illegally entering the United States on a daily basis.



Perhaps we need to clean our backyard, while we still have one, before we worry about someone else's.

And the worse thing about an overgrown backyard, it is too easy for an action figure to get lost then run over by the lawnmower.
