When the guy doing the pitch hands the exec a fully painted production Hawk v2 figure from 1986, I yelled "F--- this!" at the screen.
I watched the episode in its entirety last night. It's a pretty superficial overview of the history, with a number of very sloppy errors like that 1986 Hawk figure being presented at a meeting circa 1980. I'm sure if I knew more about Barbie, I'd take issue with stuff there as well. The show really glossed over Ruth Handler's financial crimes as if they were no big deal.
The re-enactments were entirely cringey, and I absolutely loathe the way History network insists that all these dubious "documentary" shows be plastered in voiceover written in present tense as if it's happening right now ("Ruth shows the doll to her investors. They reject the idea, so she comes up with a new idea," and so forth).
For what it's worth, I also really dislike Netflix's The Toys that Made Us, which I find irritatingly condescending to the subjects it covers.
