Politics is downstream from culture. It's really not a coincidence that the culturally liberal centrist set has, in the last decade, moved from anti-authority, anti-military, anti-intelligence community (especially during the first Bush 43 term) to being pro authority, pro military, and pro IC. Hollywood's relationship with the MIC is well documented in the literature. The public-private partnership which exists in entertainment is likely the model moving forward in other realms e.g. cyber and IO.
Of course there is no 100% effective IO. One example of culture->politics is gun control. You will have a hell of a time finding an example of US produced mass media (television, streaming, film) which shows guns as both positive and effective EXCEPT in the hands of an authority figure. You will have a difficult time finding examples of media with realistic depictions of activities of civilians involving firearms which aren't both central to the story and negative e.g. the police procedural trope of the (usually) middle aged or older white male who is carrying a concealed firearm and tries to intervene in a violent situation but either kills a bystander or injures himself due to incompetence only to be saved by the highly trained patrol officer. Despite the reality that the average person who carries a concealed firearm trains more often than the average patrol officer even if they are only at the range once every two months, there has never been a time in the history of the United States before now when high quality training was more available and taken advantage of more by non LEO civilians, and despite the perception of a higher standard of training LEOs still hit bystanders when shooting.
But that media portrayal heavily influences the public perception of both firearms and authority figures & violence.
Another example, one I wrote about in grad school and was something I had been thinking about heavily for a long time, is the media portrayal of Muslim militants. It is much more complicated than the previous example and both involve not only entertainment media but also information media and how that shapes perceptions e.g. the Salon "story" being passed around by multiple outlets a few years ago about ISIS fighters "being especially afraid" of being killed by YPJ female militia which was completely made up.
