I don't think I'd call this Stolen Valor at this point, it's just the quirks of a wrestler from a time when that was the rule to live by.
His voice is a hint. I saw him do an interview a while ago (it was like 20 years ago now) where he talks about being in character and developing the Sgt Slaughter character. One of the biggest details is the way he uses his voice. Robert Remus is much more soft spoken than Sgt Slaughter, and almost all of the interviews you see from him he's using that voice, he's in character. He knows what people want to see, he knows what makes him money, it's not a guy playing a character, it is the character, so he's always in character.
