Normally I stay away from any new release stuff-I'm all about vintage. But I've been thinking about trying the awe striker. How close is the vehicle to the original? It's obvious the figures different.
AWE Striker is dead on balls accurate vintage. If anyone finds me wrong please reply-I'm all ears. I just restored my vintage one a week ago and didn't see a difference. It looks like you could even use the retro antennas to replace the ones on your vintage one. The plastic feels better than the 25th vehicles but has a bit of a tooth to it as apposed the smoother vintage's surface. I am extremely pleased with my AWE Striker. NOTE: have your vintage AWE Striker blueprints ready. The retro does come with all of the same decals but only half of them are on the instruction sheet and some of the placement can be tricky. Have YOJO up and ready when decaling this.
UPDATE: On further inspection the Retro AWE doesn't have that rib down the center of the front hood. It actually makes the United States and the Star decal go on much better. In my book it's an improvement. The 25th was the same I believe. Also it looks like connection piece for the canon on top has been redesigned from the vintage. That was a weak point on the vintage so I'm cool with it. The change seems to be an improvement.
The HISS has a change to the mount on the turret. The outer facing side between the canons has the access door removed and is just flat. It's rather bland. The rest of the HISS looks the same but I did not compare them side by side and restored my vintage HISS 5 years ago so I cold be off on that. Again the plastic feels higher quality to the 25th release but not as impressive as the AWE Striker. I am happy with my HISS (LOVE THE BOX) but not as happy as I am with my AWE Striker. No buyer's remorse what so ever.
The decals on both are very nice/ good quality and tolerate some readjusting. The Awe Striker decals are almost all vintage accurate except the gas cap decal. The Hiss decals felt vintage accurate but again it's been 5 years since I restored my childhood Hiss so I can't swear by it.
The figures are really a matter of opinion. I swapped the head on my Crankcase-it's a really lovely sculpt but it looks like a hipster bar tender. It may make for a good repaint for RnR. I don't understand why they'd do a new head sculpt and get it wrong with the full beard? To me the SAS trained Joe should look like Watson, a mustachioed, thick forearmed brawler of a Scotsman.
The Hiss Driver looks good but I was happy enough with the 25th one.
