GENERAL
COMPOSITION
Platoon consists of command group and three rifle squads.
DUTIES OF COMMAND GROUP
Platoon Leader - trains, disciplines, controls, and employs platoon.
Platoon Sergeant - helps control platoon's direction and rate of movement.
Platoon Guide - prevents straggling, enforces orders, and replenishes ammunition from the rear.
Messengers - one reports to company commander, one to platoon leader.
CONTROL AND COMMUNICATION
Platoon leader communicates to platoon with oral orders and hand signals.
Platoon leader communicates to company commander with messengers, radio, or visual signals.
ROUTE MARCH
Platoon marches in column as directed by company commander, but platoon leader prescribes order of march for squads.
