I have really enjoyed the Sigma 6 line, you are right the cartoon itself was horrible but the toys while large were amazingly detailed and well accessorized. I got into the S6 line very late too, I had bought the original Snake Eyes when he first came out and thought he was cool but passed on a majority of the line. Then about the tail end of the series I bought a few figures on sale and realized I was missing out on something very unique. Since then I have been able to build of a complete set of open figures, vehicles and a good portion of the 2.5 inch vehicles and figures.
I was able to find a lot of figures on cleanrce, or at cheaper stores like Ross and Marshals. To be honest I had more fun and success finding S6 figures then 25th anniversary figures at the time. The more S6 figures I bought and as the price of the 25th anniversary figures continued to climb I became a little disappointed in the depth and quality of the 25th anniversary figures compared to the S6 figs. And compared to the 12inch figures which I feel are horrible S6 have a big advantage.
I know as a whole in the GI Joe collectors realm S6 was not well received but it does have a core group of fans who really enjoy them.
