Hi guys,
I have to be honest I think my days of picking up joes is nearly over. I've never really been into figure collecting, and the only reason I got into 25th was to get the Snake Eyes in the original 5 pack (I was going to disgard the rest). Once I opened it, I decided I had to have the first Cobra set, and some $500 and driving all over town later I am like, enough is enough lol. To be honest I think the quality of the line is all over the place (two crappy Scrap-Iron figs has broken me). I have interest in seeing where Resolute is going, but I've kind of gotten my fill on "re-collecting" all of the old figs I used to have, and I with all of the figs Hasbro has released in the modern line, I think only about two dozen are worth keeping. They really blew it with a lot of the figs, either by design or quality. So I think my time with the series is coming to an end.
What has surprised me in all this though, has been Sigma 6. I know its now dead. I dropped out of GI Joe sometime around 1990, and aside from glimps of some really crappy figs and designs from late RAH and Venom vs Valor lines, I had no idea what was going on with Joes. So when I stumbled on the 8 inch Snake Eyes, I thought it would be a cool gift for my nephew.
Well, as much as he liked it, I was impressed with the reboot of the line, and even the cartoon. Before long he had just about every Sigma 6 vehicle and fig just so I could check them out myself lol. I still think 8 inches is too big, but the quality of the line blows away what we are getting from the 25th.
So I recently decided to make a grab for all of the 2.5 Sigma 6 vehicles and figs that have come out just for myself, which I will probably stick in a closet and never do much with. I think some of the designs like the Dragonhawk, Firebat, Vamp, are simply amazing.
I know not everyone was crazy about 'animizing' GI Joe, but I've done some research on the old cartoons on YouTube, and watched a few from when Cobra Commander was in his battle armor, and really think they are painful to watch. I don't know anything about the story to Venom vs Valor, but from what I have seen from the figures, I am not impressed with that line either. And I haven't read any comics lately aside from whats come in the Comic 2-packs, so I don't know anything about Devil's Due, etc, either.
So I think Sigma 6 is one of the best lines of toys I've seen from anyone in a long time, and was wondering how you guys feel about Sigma's legacy in GI Joe. I can see the arguement that it isn't GI Joe, as it is so different from other lines, but I think even judging it as a seperate theme gives it high marks. I don't even call it GI Joe - just Sigma 6.
I think it would have been awesome had they done Sigma Six in the 25th format. Its a shame it got killed. I think the concept was ahead of its time.
