China would probably be a better bet at this point in time as a source for Cobra equipment. Not because China is "the enemy" or any nonsense like that (China's had permanent "most favored nation status" with the US since 2000), but because these days they're the biggest weapons and military vehicle manufacturer outside of the US, and low-profile Chinese companies would be more likely to sell weapons tech to a private organisation than a "name brand" US-based company like Lockheed-Martin or McDonnel-Douglas. Which leads me to the
Harbin H-5
(basically an Ilyushin Il-28 refurbished by state factories in China). Actually looks like a good candidate for a modern day Rattler... the engines are in the right location (on the wings, instead of attached to the fuselage like the A-10) and it even has a manned turret, although the turret is located at the tail, instead of amidships. It's only slightly larger than an A-10, too. Have no idea how it compares in terms of cost, though (although since it's based on late 1940s/early 1950s jet technology, it's probably a factor cheaper than an A-10 or most modern ground attack jets/light jet bombers).
