Wouldn't now be "well before then?" ;)

It seems odd that they're starting on a Sunday. Doesn't Toy Fair usually go from Friday-Monday like most trade shows and conventions and such?

Also, anyone know when Mattel's event is? (I thought they do a separate "collector's event" like Hasbro does).
Troynos:
Mattel's is Sunday at 3. I'll be there.

And yes, it's seperate like Hasbros.

Hasbros is in an entirely different building from Toy Fair.

TF starts on Sunday. Hasbro's is on Saturday, at least their action figure lines.
Scroll142:
have fun everyone, thanks for sharing those that can.

Well that's all that really matters.

I don't think I'd want them after you've "handled" them.
steve_smmr:

It takes decades to goes away, in part because it manages to generate some cash. Not enough, but just enough.

well, i'll admit i'm extra bitter since my real name is Steve Sommer (sans the 's'). you can understand my rage.
WeaponXCustoms:
Ive never been more nervous for a toyline. Seeing the next waves of Joe figures is going to be highly disappointing, or very exciting.

if POC so far is any indication, i think there will be equal parts excitement AND disappointment.

So far DESTRO and Tony Bacala from the Staff. As far as members, not really sure.

But that's what makes them awesome...scratch and sniff!
Saboteur:
So much for the notion that filming would start this year, with a movie in 2012. The 'plan' is for 2013.

g i joe rise of cobra 2009.
g i joe 'the sequel' maybe 2013.

ouch.
The Batman:
I don't know why everyone is so hyped about the movie. It's just gonna be a continuation of SUCKAGE like the first one.
SteelBrigade:
Want to see Jurrasic Park Joes, and a new 3.75 WWE line of figures. Good sculpting and no action features.

oh heavens no. don't let the facts like the negative press and response from the first film, a 4 year drought, different writers and a different director bring you to that sort of conclusion.

Don't let the fact that the writers have already said it's a sequel, at least two cast members are still confirmed as returning, or that we've never had a "reboot" inside a timeframe of less than 5 years outside of the James Bond franchise (which is an entirely different animal) disabuse you of your desperate hope that they aren't making a sequel.

We did get two separate Punisher movies 4 years apart.

Wasting your time.
steve_smmr:
i'm mainly just playing around.... but i really wouldn't be that shocked at a reboot OR a sequel. both seem plausible. do i personally want a reboot? sure.

Fine, I'll concede. Still don't think we're getting a reboot.

If the studio doesn't think the first movie was successful enough to do a sequel, they're sure as hell not likely to think a reboot is a better idea. Clearly "brand recognition" (which would be the only thing a reboot would have going for it since they'd be ditching all their marketable stars and clearly aren't looking for a big-name director) wasn't enough the first go-round. Why would it be the second? I doubt Renegades has been THAT big of a hit.

I completely agree with you, for the record.

are stars marketable if they're horrid 'actors' and people don't like them?

i just peed alittle

Don't confuse general audiences with fans. There are a lot of people that like Channing Tatum (see: The fact that he keeps getting cast as the lead in movies), and Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been getting Oscar buzz this year. Even Marlon Wayans has plenty of fans.

It's just that most of Channing Tatum and Marlon Wayans' fans don't fall into the "GI Joe geek" demographic, and that GI Joe wasn't the kind of movie they're usually in (though clearly Tatum's trying to cross into action/adventure films).

For the record, (though I've said it before) I thought Tatum was by far the worst thing about RoC. But that won't change a studios' mind about him if they think he'll get some butts into seats (in his case, particularly teenage female butts).

I'll also note that Tatum's young and there's a chance his acting can improve. The 15 seconds or so I've seen of him in "The Eagle" previews looks better than his entire performance in RoC. So there may be some Directorship to blame, too.
