Sounds interesting, I can't wait to see some kind of preview.
SnakeEyes:
Sounds cool but why just 5 minute episodes? I was hoping for more like 30 minute episodes!

It's what Cartoon Network did during the 1st season of the animated StarWars Clone Wars cartoon back in 2003. I think it's to test the market to gauge interest. I'm not sure how it works. But the 2nd season of the animated StarWars Clone Wars episodes were longer.
Crimson Rage:
The five minute episodes can be both a blessing and a curse.
On the one hand, today's 'attention span deficient' viewers can more easily get hooked by the slick, quickly paced action. On the other hand, there isn't must room for actual plot to unfold.
The difference between this and CLONE WARS (as I see it) is that the SW show used characters and followed a continuity that just about everyone, with the last movie fresh in their minds, knew.

The Joe characters will be new to a lot of people, especially if the cast differ from the movie, so they may not get to 'know' them in the new series.
But then Ellis is an experienced writer and can hopefully strike a balance.

Not for them, the cartoon is aimed at us.

5 minutes or not. its about damn time

Yeah, and look how we're embracing the new continuity of the movie
I realise that the more 'mature' fan is the intended target. I just thought that for this new series to have longevity (which I presume we all want) it would need to find a general audience beyond the fanbase.
Agent-GHQ:
All this talk about cartoons. Are we talking about an entirely new cartoon or bringing back the 80's ARAH cartoon?
InfiniteJest:
Man, I wish they would release that teaser trailer so we all could see it.
topnotch97:
is that Screech at front page?!?!

Entirely new. An updated version of original ARAH cartoon and comic bringing a more "realistic" approach to it. More mature (hence the PG-13 rating) geared towards the fans of the original cartoon.

So, I guess this may answer the questions about what the "omega" figures were in the Wal Mart computers. Seems like they are the beginning of the cartoon figures. That's cool. I know someone described the SE outfit as a goggles version, what about everyone else who was in it? what did their uniforms look like?
john doe:
    way to go hasbro.

    warren ellis is a turd.
i'll be selling my whole collection on ebay due to this development.

This is the best news that came out of Joe con, I'm more excited about this than anything else that's coming up, I wouldn't be surprised if we get to see the footage after Comiccon.

I must be getting old, as I honestly don't know whether that's a genuine extreme reaction or pure sarcasm...

    ...Getting rid of anything nice?

Sarcasm I hope... cause Ellis is a great writer from what I've read...

    Ocean, Planetary, Transmetropolitan, Global Frequency...

    um I'm at a loss...

anyhoo, I'm quite excited for this new cartoon...I reckon that each of the 5 minute cartoons might be dedicated to certain character, which an overall kinda story arc running through it...but who knows thats what I'd do...

    Can't wait!

He's S.A.S., so of course he's the most badass!!
jcast:
Funny thing is Warren Ellis was ranting in 2001 about how nostalgia (GI Joe, Transformers, MOTU, and others) comics were going to kill the comics industry.

I seem to remember him moaning about superheroes as well but he's since dabbled there too!

    Differen't article, but same info
No you did not. The article on ICV2.com has concrete information, not to mention confirmation on the toyline and of the episode formats and where it will be shown.
Shin Densetsu:
I want to see figures, and vehicles for this line! Doubt we will see a FLAGG toy from it, but I want to see Skystrikers and any vehicle Cobra dishes out. Maybe we will see an updated HISS tank and Skyhawk.
Dropshot:
Looks like Hasbro's partership with Cartoon Network is really paying off. Making 5 minute episodes you will have a better quality overall and a mature feeling. I'd love if it happened to transformers as a side project while contiunuing Animated.

I'm very excited with the announcement of the new joe cartoon. I hope there will be lots of violence, gore and maybe a little T&A. Lol.
DevilDog00:
I just hope the quality is alot better. I hope they give us a good story line to keep it interesting.

Should be, its by the team that animated Avatar, and being that webisodes use up a much smaller time frame as opposed to 30 minute episodes on Avatar, they can go all out with the quality.
machiwoomiapoo:
I'm excited to have anything GI Joe come out! It's been too long! I can't wait for the new Larry Hama comic too! What's up!!!!
GrenadierStinny:
Warren Ellis is one of the most brilliant minds in comics today. And with Dave Johnson's character designs, this thing should completetly rock.
Shin Densetsu:
I am anxious to see toy designs, even though it will probably be a long time before we see anything. I wonder if they will be on the shelf once the webisodes start.
delta:
Do you think the toys will be more cartoonish, like the Transformers animated toys, or the animated Batman toys? Or more a kin to the 25th style toys?
Golobulous:
here's hoping regardless of style they stay close to the characters original uniforms, and not have everyone running around in black power suits. as long as this does not happen, i am all over this cartoon thing. i loved the old cartoon and still watch it regularly on dvd.

No I think they will be more like how the animation actually looks like, which did not sound kiddy at all.

Stormwatch, the Authority, Fell, Nextwave, the Ultimate Galactus trilogy, Iron Man, newuniversal, Ultimate Human, Desolation Jones, Orbiter, Black Summer, Doktor Sleepless, Anna Mercury, the Freakangels webcomic...

He's prolific and one of those authors who isn't afraid to push the boundaries a little bit.

Yeah, he's bitched about a lot of things that he's later worked on - for him it's all about finding an angle that makes it interesting for him.

Agreed - Dave Johnson is a brilliant designer and concepts guy. This will be incredible.

Maybe we'll see something at SDCC. Here's hoping!
