Hasbro unveils 3 3/4 inch Marvel Universe line marvel-universe-028
Hasbro has shown their first round of new toys based on Marvel characters in the 3.75 inch scale. The new line is called Marvel Universe, and seems to be similar in style to the new GI Joe scuplts used for the 25th anniversary. Differences of course, but highly articulated and detailed sculpting. There is also an in-scale hulk figure which towers above the others.

To check out about 35 images of the new figures, read on!

Kluster Bombs:
    Coming in spring of 2009.

    Staff Edit: Hisstank Images here...

    http://www.hisstank.com/gi-joe-news/...rse-line-7522/

Articulation is a key to Marvel Legends so the 3 3/4 figures will be fully poseable. Figures will include acessories, such as Sufer's board, Goblin's Glider and Punisher's guns.

Iron Man, Spider-Man, Silver Surfer, Punisher, Blackk Panther, Bulls-Eye, Daredevil, Human Torch and variant Johnny Storm, Stealth Armor Iron Man,
X-Force Wolverine, Hulk, Ronin, Iron Fist, black costume Spider-Man, troop building Hand ninjas, classic Iron Man, Ms.Mmarvel and classic variant, Thing and a mail away figure of Nick Fury based on Jesse Falcon, Hobgoblin, Moon Knight, Ultimate Nick Fury, Ultimate Captain America, Grey Hulk, Union Jack with guns, Thor and Colossus were shown.
RolandofGilead:
    Super articulated Punisher!!
Kluster Bombs:
They will have the figs on display tomorrow Saturday at SDCC.
RolandofGilead:
I was just looking at the photos and the folks responsible for the new 3 3/4 DC line should be embarrased.
darthZartan:
Punisher is first on my list. But you know, they look exactly like the marvel showdowns. The punisher seems to have a new head sculp but thats the only difference I can see.

Looking again and I see two different punishers, one with the showdown paint job with new head and a repainted version in the group pic.

I hope the arms don't fall off like the showdowns do.
slim19722:
Moon Knight & Blade. Need Deadpool and I'll be happy. May have to sell all my SHS to make room for theses guys.
soundwavempl:

Those are awesome. I will be buying them all!

Now I also collect Mattel's DCU Infinite Heroes 3 3/4" line (the sculpting is nice - I gotta support The Four Horsemen) and they are not terrible figures now that I have some. But after collecting 25th Anniversary Joes and modern Star Wars figures, Mattel's DCU Infinite Heroes articulation and detailing is definitely lacking compared to Hasbro's high 3 3/4" scale standards.
mikeTime:
Those all look great. DC should hang it up. Even for $4.99, after seeing these the only thing Infinite Heros are good for are heads. I've been waiting for 3.75 Marvel to come out. Looks like improvements all the way from the SHS line. Better paint and joints.

I saw two Punishers to wet your whistle.

DC does 1:18 and they give us a bunch of lame characters with poor articulation and huge hands. Marvel brings out the stable of Spider Man, The Avengers, Iron Man and assorted baddies. I haven't see a fig I would not buy.

This may replace my $9.99 joe habit. I really don't like that Hasbro is fixing all of the first 25th figs with better & more original this and that. They already got our money. It's time for something new. All those Joe movie figs are awesome.
M.E.A.T. VIPER:
    Make a DEADPOOL already !!!
darthZartan:
The 2 group shots have been removed. Strange.
stevebarns:
its a good day to be a nerd
GI Flow:
I've been waiting for this news for the longest time. I am mos definite going to collect these all and then some. Were those Red Ninjas? Man, Ronin/Hawkeye, Iron Man (Classic/Modern), Silver Surfer, Big Punisher, Asgardian King Thor, Green Grey and Red Hulk with a different head sculpt! And the Hulks look like they are to scale finally.

This is great news. Now we gotta wait til March. Between this and The Joe movie figs, to me Marvel is going to win.

This make Mattel's DC line look like doo doo on a stick. I'm sorry to disagree about the horseman's sculpting. I bought some and was stupid disappointed. Hasbro has the game on lock right now. I wish they were in Cali so I could work there.

I am stupid amped about this!!!
GI Flow:
That was modern Thor...oh all right, it's still dope!
BigErn:
Those look really cool, I saw a pic of Wolverine from the new X-Force, sweet.
Bernit69:
    sweet...can't wait
Jism83:
nice! i want me a spider man

They are still there on page 3.
Bernit69:
Ohhh, man if DC makes their figs like these or Joes. I will be soo broke it won't be funny. The new DC figs that are coming out 3.75" are cheap. Few points of articulation.

I'm sure by Sat or Sun we'll get nice pics of these new Marvel figs.
Pimp Daddy Darklon:
Just the way I hope them to be. They got 25th Joes artic from the looks of it.
Gulfster:
sweet Jesus these are AWESOME !!!! I'm going to be so broke

Finally, the Joes will be able to serve alongside another real American hero...Captain America.

I am so looking forward to this line. It's a shame that Mattel's DC Infinite Heroes are so craptacular. It would have been awesome if GI Joe, Marvel Universe and DC Infinite Heroes would have been at least close in scale.

I'm hoping that Marvel Universe will be in scale with GI Joe, as both are made by Hasbro. As for DC, I guess I'll have to learn how to customize the Marvel Universe figs.

Talk about dragging it out, Spring 09. Given their track record with this line we won’t see them until September. I’ve waited so long I felt like I’d be an old man in my hover chair checking virtual web sites saying, “Yeah sonny this will be the year”.

But, I am sure they will be well worth the wait and I will buy all of them probably doubles of each. Although this does not make me any less impatient. I wanted them like two years ago.

I picked up some DC’s today. I do like them, but they are lacking. I’ve been examining them all day thinking maybe I can cut those hands off and replace them with Joe’s. Then, I started thinking maybe I could cut the figure at the waist and replace it with a Joe’s lower half. Then, I saw the panels and I thought screw that! I’m saving my money for those and cutting nothing.

I have been buying Joe’s and SW in mass thinking if I steal a part here or there I can make that into a marvel character. But, no more, with this line coming out I will buy Joe’s and DC’s, but maybe only a couple per wave nothing more. However, I can assure you Hasbro I will happily buy your ridiculously priced marvel 3 ¾ figures over and over again and again as long as make them and I have a job.

So make them FAST, my checkbook is wide open for this line!

I must admit I am a little dizzy with anticipation. I may not sleep tonight. Sad I know.

Lol... I feel the same way.
Shin-Gouki:
Thank God No Star Wars Crotch!!!!!!!!
darthZartan:
Sadly there is no cure for Star Wars Crotch.
Black Rose:
These look amazing & I'm loving the street with Sentinel head for a display. Hope that is something we can buy.
spacemonkeymafia:
Man these are pure works of art............Cant wait for a Captain America...........Cyclops......ArchAngel....
Shin Densetsu:
Oh yea Gentle Giant and Toybiz assisted with sculpting some of these. God these will be so much better than the flimsy superhero showdown figures.

    I DEMAND DEADPOOL!

And this line is asking for comic and battle packs.
Bernit69:
Now that I take a closer look at the arms, they don't seem to have the same articulation as the Joes. It appears that they don't have the elbow rotation. But they are still sweet.
Kluster Bombs:
A little review from Rob @ Raving Toy Maniac forums:

    Hey folks,

I just had a chance to play with the new Hasbro Marvel 3-3/4" figures and I wanted to chare some initial impressions. They had 4 of them - Silver Surfer, Spider-Man, Punisher and Iron Man. We were able to open all but the Punisher, so I messed around with Spidey, the Surfer and Iron Man.

One caveat - they are production samples (i.e. from the factory) but early ones, so I don't expect them to differ when they come out. But, early productions samples are usually very carefully controlled, so the paint is going to be perfect on these where once production begins there could be changes.

The designer behind these at Hasbro is an ex-Toy Biz guy so he has the right mindset to begin with. The figures were packaged and the cards are small but they have a clean and simple design to them. They had little fact cards and such with them.

The figures are an improvement on the Showdown figures. The joints are tighter and the arms and legs do not come off easily (at all really). They still have the ball-and-socket joints for the shoulders and thighs, but they are using abs plastic vice pvc, so the joints are tighter and stay tight (i.e. they do not come off).

The figures had double-jointed knees, hinged ankles (Spidey had a ball and socket type ankle that hinged and swivelled), ab sockets (they twisted at the abs not the waist and could bend at the abs), elbow hinges, twisting wrists, ball jointed shoulders, bicep twists and ball-and-socket neck joints.

They had great range of motion, all had good paint and no stuck or overly loose joints. They are very well sculpted (Dave Cortez, Phil Ramirez and Sam Greenwell worked on these) and the details are great, even with the smaller size.

The Surfer has pegs to put him on the board (included) but they didn't fit as snugly as I would have liked. I think the hinge for the double joints on the knees was PVC, so it is softer and the SUrfer looked a little bow-legged.

They seemed to stand okay, but there was a table cloth so I can't really speak for how stable they will be long term is standing on a shelf.

At first glance, these are better than the Mattel DC figures in terms of sculpting and articulation and detailing/paint. I think they will end up being $2-3 more when they hit retail in March, so this may hurt consumer (kid) sales when they come up if the DC figures stay at $5. Collectors will likely complain and then buy them anyway.

They are very nice, though. Better than the Showdown figures and they have a good design and play factor to them.

As a side not, I think someone might have pilfered the Surfer (sans his board) from the little dinner they were at. I don't know who did it, but wouldn't you rather have Spider-Man or Iron Man?

    -Rob

DaViper:
Wow, this is awesome news!! I know what line I will be getting into after joes! What a great year it's going to be for action figures!
Bernit69:
    awesome...thanks for the review
newtypejuggalo128:
    They look really cool.

I'm torn, DCUC is kickin ML's ass in the 6" scale.
3 3/4" Marvel is killing DCI.

    Touche.

I just wonder how compatible they will be with the Joes for customs. There are lots of parts Joes dont have you can get from them plus they might display nice with the Joes. And then all the big character and vehicle capability. BAFs be damned!

Where did you guys see the Joe movie figs???
Ash Talon:
They have bicep swivel but not at the elbow. Same articulation just better aesthetically for people wearing skintight outfits.

These look awesome! They'll look even better helping my Joes beat Cobra!
Kluster Bombs:
    I want these like NOW!!!
Nemesis*Prime:
These are really going to be kick-ass figures. The detail on Blade alone is really good. However as much as I agree they need to do a Deadpool figure
I hope Hasbro plans on doing a few more female Heroes and Villains too because that Ms. Marvel (the modern one) looks great.

Also Hasbro should really made a Taskmaster figure, and I'm not talking about the classic version, I'm talking the UDON comics, Alvin Lee version.

    Those are nothing like them.....
GunghosLipHair:
this is something i have always wanted. i have all of the old toy biz marvel superheroes. im pumped up to have quality scale marvel figures. bring on thanos
MST3KFan:
I'm just curious. Do these figures have any wrist articulation?

I can't tell from the photos if they do. One of the things on SHS I hated was they had no wrist articulation, which meant their hands were stuck in whatever position the figure was molded in, which sucks if say, characters like Wolverine you want to pose their hands differently.
Michael Jade:
This is all I need. More money to spend.

Seriously though, I'll only get a figure if he was once an Avenger. I'vw always been a big Avenger fan.

    Edit: OMG! A Black Panther.
jjk1120:
I might as well take my paycheck and direct deposit it into Hasbro's account. Seriously.

    >waves white flag<

I give up, Hasbro! I do!!
Hit & Run:
    "Bob Dole doesn't like this."

These Marvel figures are the worst news my wallet has gotten since the 25th Anniversary Joes. I'm officially done for if they release the Black Panther and Hawkeye to go along with the good Captain in one of the initial waves.
gunslingercbr:
I'm not particularly into the line, but having more options for custom fodder is always a good thing.
