Well, that ended just as quickly as it started. Earlier this week, we reported that Dreamworks Animation and Hasbro were in merger talks.
Now, the New York Times has reported that Hasbro is noted to have ended talks with Dreamworks Animation. Apparently a sharp decrease in Hasbro’s shares after the announcement on Wednesday, alongside a negative private reaction from Disney were enough to shelf any kind of merger talks.
So on that note, it looks like we won’t be getting any Shrek vs. G.I.Joe Crossovers anytime soon. What are your thoughts on this latest development? Join the ongoing discussion after the break.

Repeating what was said in the other post:
It's an interesting idea. DreamWorks has some properties that Hasbro could make into toys, it has the means of making Hasbro properties into cartoons.
There might be some issues with the Marvel and Star Wars licenses once the contracts run out, if Disney sees this merger as competition. Which it may or may not.
But if they lose the Marvel/Star Wars licenses, that would most likely force them to concentrate on their other IPs: G.I. Joe, Transformers, Visionaries, M.A.S.K., etc...

Read a few articles on this topic this morning. Apparently any sort of merger would not happen for another 60 days, effectively bringing us in to the new year. Some of the reports (Reuters and Forbes in this example) aren't necessarily clear (could be because I'm heavily medicated); Some say it's a merger with both sides of the house working together (DreamWorks-Hasbro Animation is the proposed name), others say it's Hasbro looking to buy DreamWorks Animation and absorb it all together.
I know, 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. Either way, it'll be interesting to see what comes of this.

Could this just really mean that Hasbro could have merged with them because the other studios don't want to have anything to do with Hasbro's other brands because they think that GI Joe, My Little Pony, etc will not be worth the investment? And DreamWorks is the only one interested? Who knows.

Great, honest question. I wish I had a great, honest answer for it, too. The news does make me extremely hopeful that good things are on the horizon, but my luck is shit, so I don't want to put any more bad juju on the brand.
As always, I'm extremely hopeful too but I'm not going to hold my breath. But man, I hope it's good for the GI Joe brand.

I'm more concerned about Dreamworks Animation in this merger than I am Hasbro. For Hasbro it'd be hard for this to be anything but a good thing, but Dreamworks Animation is pretty much the #3 (arguably #2) CG Animation studio out there (behind Pixar and maybe Disney Animation), and Hasbro apparently didn't handle the Hub so well. I'd be concerned that they may see a major talent drain at DWA if Hasbro gets heavy-handed.
As noted, this can't really be anything but good for Hasbro's brands, though it becomes a question of Paramount's contract for Transformers and G.I. Joe and how long it lasts before we might see, say A CGI Joe or Transformers film.
I suspect My Little Pony will be the top of the list to get the Dreamworks treatment, though.
