Hasbro 2nd Quarter Profits Up, Sales Increase 13% Hasbro-Logo
GI Joe manufacturer Hasbro has reported their 2nd Quarter 2008 earnings. The toymaker posted a higher-than-expected quarterly profit, boosted by sales of toys tied to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and by brands like G.I. Joe and Transformers. 2nd Quarter net profit rose to $37.5 million, or 25 cents a share, beating analyst estimates of 22 cents per share. Sales rose 13 percent to $784.3 million.

Just think how high it would have been if they had stuff in stock!
DESTRO:
On a side note, expect a second price increase for Hasbro Product. No word if G.I. Joe will be effected.

    Quote:
Effective September 1, Hasbro will raise prices for its toys in the mid-single-digit percentage range to protect its margins, Hargreaves added on a conference call.

Toymakers are being slammed by high commodity prices. Hasbro has also cited higher costs for transporting its goods, despite expecting higher earnings this year.

"While input cost inflation continues to be challenging, thus far we have been able to mitigate most of the impact through cost savings initiatives and pricing actions," Hasbro Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer David Hargreaves said in a statement.
If read this right most of the price increase will be on toys under $20.00 range.
Gung.Heaux:
    another price increase....thanks hasbro.
Jeffrozup:
I have to say that since the price of Indiana Jones figures has went up to $7.99 here, the Targets cannot keep them in stock anymore. These figures are flying off the shelves here now.

Naturally... you can bet on it. Joe is a cash calf (cow would require them actually producing enough to meet demand). They will continue to milk Joey all the way to the bank.

You mean Indiana Jones and Transformers product actually sold in the second quarter??? I would never have guessed by the surplus on the shelves lately.

    Facetious? Me?

We do not have any confirmation that will happen. We may already have seen the price increase for Joe and they will go after other brands.
Tomahawk:
    awesome

Hasbro seemed to forget right around the time that they bought Kenner that G.I. Joe is teh feraking roxx0rz.
TheTransTorture:
Could'a been a lot more if these things were available to all stores for all to buy ;)
polyphenus:
Since the price recently climbed to $7.99 at Target for G.I. Joe figures and since their profit is now higher I wouldn't rule out any more future price increases. Stop buying now so Hasbro gets the message! I mean all the Target shoppers! Buy single card figures somewhere else!
Deckard:
I don't buy much of anything from stores unless its discounted(like the star wars stuff is) or its loose and i trade for it. These companies can kiss my the fattest part of my ass.

Thats not a problem since the 4 targets in my area have never had a single thing. I purchased some wave 2 stuff back in the day, a wave 1 CC, and 2 dvd packs from them. Thats all they have ever dad. The 4th target we got was 2 storys, i was so excited we were getting a new one because since this one was located in the mall it would be stocked. I got in there the morning it opend and it had 1 wave 1 CC in the isle. no CP no SW nothing. and that wv1 CC is the only joe related single pack figure i have ever seen there since then
Jdizzle66:
do you think the profit increase is due to the 65% price increase they have dropped on us in the past year? I figure if they sell the same amount of product with a 65% price increase that would about cover it. from $4.84 to $7.99 i think that might have something to do with it

lol seriously these are peices of shit at 8.99-9.99

7.99 is the celing and for what they have been giving us... 7.99 is ok as long as it is bat or s/s quality

i am not paying 8.99-9.99 for a FLINT in 'cobra gear'

i can do it myself and BETTER

paint a tomax gun... and put the body of the 5 pack trooper or hell even the PYTHON trooper.. and have my own flint/duke python patrol
onefastbird95:
no crap the profit is up... look how much more we are paying for figures
polyphenus:
Hasbro is making their profits just like the oil companies: by driving that price up... :(
Deckard:
Why do you think I have stopped buying these. The majority of items i get comes from Trades. its too ridiculous to pay these prices.

    agreed
RolandofGilead:
I agree. You should all just stop buying Joe figures, boycott Target and Wal-mart! At least until I get all the ones I want, and then it doesn't matter.

Oil companies don't set the price of oil. Back to economics 101 you go!

    Now this may be true!!
jjk1120:
Indiana Jones figures would sell better if I saw some of the later waves, not just Shia Labouf keeping those pegs nice & toasty warm.

    I want my Short Round!!!

No kidding! I need Maj Toht to lead my time-traveling Nazis!
82joe:
Just how much more expensive can the single carded figures get? $8.99 is the highest I've found at KB. I love my collection and I need my Joe fix, but it's getting very close to not being worth the price tag. If they go up any more I'm going to have to bail out and go back to collecting the vintage ARAH stuff.....it's cheaper.

Just when are these new Indy figures gonna hit? Somebody made a comment that the old wave were flying off the shelf. I think you might have been kidding, because they are clogging every shelf I see. The hoopla has died down and I don't see wave 2 and 3 being anything but a limited release, if at all (think Marvel Legends Showdown wave 4)........guess that's the same reason I haven't found the new Joe comic packs. There ain't no room on the shelf for them. The old waves are hording the space.
Deckard:
do what i do at times when im fed up with that. Go grab a big plastic tote, dump all those peg warmers in it then go put the tote back so the shelves are empty. Eventually they may find the tote but if they search for it as hard as they look for things for us when we're instores it'll be a while :>
Agent-GHQ:
    Good thing its not confirmed.

SITHLOU33:
It's going to come to a point where they price alot of people out of their products.
Deckard:
well its not like i buy much anyways but after this sept i won;t be buying SHIT from hasbro until things settle down. Business or not this is crap.
atomicpower:
I'm sure the economy's going to price a lot of us out of our childhoods soon anyhow.
camper:
Interesting, and right after posting higher-than-expected profit and an increase in stock value.
    Surreal, even.

Nope, this is the reason: "Please note: At least one item in your order does not yet have a price. We'll e-mail you once it's announced by the publisher."

Now maybe the increase of the prices in the mid-single-digit range for Hasbro's toys is why Target doesn't have a definate price to go on.

    2 things though,

    1. What is the mid-single-digit range?
    2. Haven't we been saying that the prices of toys are gonna go up for a few months now?
CG76:
Hopefully, any price increase will be limited.
Dark 5cythe:
guys this is just like it was when we were kids. this is a more authentic GI JOE experience!

dont you guys remember being kids and not being able to get every figure and vehicle? Some vehicles were just too expensive for our parents.

well now we can be kids again! and remember what its like to not be able to buy any toy we want!

    -Sarcasm
jjk1120:
This is the one and only reason I'm glad the 25th/Modern line is drawing to a close. I just can't afford it.

A single carded figure has nearly doubled in price since the line debuted.

    That's crap.

I'm gonna guess 5-7%. The range could be lower, but realistically it won't be less than 5. How that will translate into MSRPs, I don't really know. I don't think TRU for example is going to price single pack GI Joes at $7.34 instead of $6.99, not a very consumer-friendly number. So who knows.

Hopefully Target's $7.99 is already taking this increase into account. And just a note that the $28.99 price online (were it final) would represent a 16% hike.
topnotch97:
well if hasbro wants to raise prices, let them.

i'm not thinking of getting any of their vehicles with figures that look horrible anyways. like the awe striker w/ leather neck? wow. a recycled gung-ho. good thing i started cutting down on joes that i really want versus the stuff that's been given to us by force.

psstt... i'll buy LOOSE from you from now on, how's that?

$5 per loose fig? it's a bargain. LOL

    Yahhh yahhh yuuuuuuck...

I wonder if these means come September 10, Target will raise their single carded Joe prices to $9.99, with Wal-Mart maybe $7.84 and TRU $8.99? That means the internet retailers will raise their non-army builder prices to $15 or so each and army builders $20-25.

At least the movie line will kill the 25th/Modern stuff so there isn't much left to go. They're already veering far away from what made the 25th line so popular (classic character outfits redone with classic card art) and pooping out their own customs like "COBRA Flint." Next will surely be Issue #21 Snake-Eyes that will be a Snake-Eyes head on a comic trooper's body. Pilot Scarlett I am sure will be...Scarlett with a green helmet.

Ah, well. It was fun while it lasted.
Shin Densetsu:
I don't see prices coming down anytime soon, or for the next few years, I think prices will increase gradually, not just on toys, but anything dependent on petroleum, and a lot of things depend on petroleum, a lot more than I thought. Even things that you might not think are linked to petroleum, are.

It sucks, but as leisure items, toys are the least of our worries with regards to rising costs.

For now and the coming months, we will be selectively choosing the retailer with the best selection and cheapest prices, but the highest price one or more retailers set now, maybe the cheapest price by next year or so.
gdztoyz:
Sigh...it's a damn shame, the $5.00 price tag seems so long ago It's barely been a year. **Insert political rant here**

This is going to change my buying habits a LOT, no more completing waves...
COBRACOLLECTOR:
Yea im already hurting anymore higher ill just buy must haves
and just cut down cus the price hike in these Times would be to much
