GI Joe QnA October 2010 Answers

Hasbro-GI-Joe-QnA
Yes folks the answers for the latest Hasbro 2010 GI Joe Q&A are finally in! Do you want to Pursuit Cobra longer than 4 waves? How about the Shadow Guard, what secrets lurked in its shadow? Find the answers to these questions and more by hitting the title bar!

1) Will there be any way of telling from the box which color HISS Tank V5 you are getting once the running change in color(black) starts to happen, and when will it hit retail?
A) The Black HISS will be packed in the same package as the previous version. This is what is known as a "running change:" a change that was made in reaction to fan-feedback which demanded an "all-black" version. We're sorry, but packaging will not reflect which versions are black and which are Burgundy.

2) The Shadow Guard from Pursuit Of Cobra was shown on a banner at JoeCon 2010 but the figure itself is nowhere to be seen. We take it, it was unfortunately canceled or maybe even hiding in the shadows for a later release. In any case, was it merely a repaint of the 25th Anniversary Crimson Guard figure with the same weapons, or did it have any new parts?
A) The Shadow Guard was originally planned as an exclusive. He was a redeco of the original Crimson Guard, but contained some weapons not previously packed with the Crimson Guard.

3) As we all know from the Pursuit Of Cobra line, plans change. Though Pursuit Of Cobra was meant as a filler line between the Rise of Cobra movie and the Renegades cartoon, has any thought been given to extending Pursuit Of Cobra beyond 4 waves? Or is the strategizing and marketing of this current line basically over and done with?
A) After we started this line, we have been overwhelmed with the response. While we can not promise anything, there are many additional figures that we want to do and we are currently looking to see if we can fit a few more waves into this line.

more POC means more i will buy.

i eat ramen noodles for every meal, but damn it i will have my jooooess....
Ricardogasjr:
So, i think all the answers goes in the same direction: In the beginning they thought POC will go just to Wave 4, but POC seems to sell a lot better than they expected and they chenged the direction: more POCs Waves and Renegades going under the POC Label..
Thanks a lot HASBRO

They didn't say for how long though.
Black Swan:
...till Renegades pops on the scene. Then all bets are off as far any new POC Joes.
Tanksmasher:
They seem to be moving more toward quality than quantity so if the next waves sell really well, and I think they will, we'll probably see some more.
arashikage tat:
I am so happy they may continue with POC and get us some of the figs we've been wanting...today has been a day of GREAT news
luigi:
when does habro do the next q/a and where can i ask them a question
Steel Brigade:
POC LIVES!! I had a feeling the line was to hawt to let go to soon... great news!!

Because the answer is always the same; just a reply without an answer and some generic statement about the rich history of the line or something. Besides, that question is under future releases which Hasbro can't answer, as stipulated in the criteria for their 2010 Q&A's.

I noticed how they stated that the fans wanted an "all black" HISS. It's like one of those monkey paws that you make a wish with. There's always a gotcha that comes with it. Be careful what you wish for. I guess Hasbro was like "OK, you want an ALL black HISS tank, you got it motherf'ers." LOL!

Hehe, reminds me of the time Armada Unicron was being designed, and Aaron Archer(who has moved up at Hasbro; at the time he was a designer for them) said something like "SEE THAT FANBOYS?! UNICRON EVEN HAS MOVING KNEES!". During Armada, Unicron was one of the only fully articulated figures released in the line.

did he say the hiss tanks were "burgendy." ok, poop burgendy then...

So true. ;)

I just hope they keep with the slower pace of adding figures/waves. Makes it easier to collect rather than RoC with dumping 35+ almost at once or when the 25th/ME waves bumped up to almost every month to track down new figures.
Force 21:
I hope this news is true. I want more POC!
CrimsonGuard101:
It better be true...POC has a huge potential unheard of for Joe in the last 20 years...but please leave the action features out...you can use that in the Renegades toys all you want...

Now bring on the shadow guard!

Quite you! Hasbro will read this and take out all articulation until we're left with something that resembles vintage Star Wars figs.

I can read their statement now, "fans have demanded that we take ALL action features out of the figures, and we are happy to announce that the 2012 waves of GI Joe will have no action features whatsoever."

Action features don't work on GI Joe figures. Not like the youngins are buying Jungle Assault Tornado Kick Whirlwhind Shelf Warming action Snake Eyes from POC.

Apparenlty they put them in there for a reason..they have to know collectors do not want "gimmicks" like that...so whow as th etarget audience fo rit to begin with?..I think they were 2 test figures to try the idea out...some corp. exec egghead up there has a fetish for that type of gimmick or they wouldn't put it out there...like all of that wasted plastic spring loaded wepaons from ROC...lol
SNAKE EYES:
I wish they would have let us know if we might still get the planned Shadow Guard set... we already knew it was canceled, but will it be revived along with the Steel Brigade figures and released...
FIREFLY21:
just read on Action Figure Insider's Q&A that Renegades inspired figures will be IN THE POC LINE. Sounds like a big shift in plans, no Renegades line but a continuing POC line being the main Joe product! Bless U Hasbro
FIREFLY21:
....and they will follow the realistic look of the line (not stylized I assume)

I wonder what weapons it was going to have. The tooling is there, no new money needed to tool more parts, it was just a repaint with presumably existing, but different, weapons. I think with that figure, it's possible but all will depend on if Hasbro thinks it will sell and if most of us will buy it.

If it had new parts, like new web gear even, I'd want it more.

Hmmm..speaking of which, Desert Battle Storm Shadow's head sculpt looks remotely close to the character design for Renegades Storm Shadow.
kingofpain26:
see!!!!???

I guess the Pursuit of Cobra WAS crucial!!!!!

reading around the other questions:

- apparently they're still saying flat out no to accessory packs
And to female figs in POC (I guess renegades will be an exception)

so no hope for city strike scarlett?

- I would guesstimate that the POC line is gonna last until they debut the prototypes for G.I.joe II line, probably by next year's SDCC. unless they still plan on a full renegades line next fall with vehicles.

- they're extending the POC line with a few more waves AND renegades figs... so the rumored figures that just missed the cutoff point for inclusion into POc (Lifeline, Airtight, ) and maybe a few surprises we saw on the Hasbro tour at Joecon, might make it in next year...

- there IS going to be 7 packs next year, but they're "wrestling' with the format choices.
(I wonder if that was a thinly veiled clue)
or is the Shadow Guard, Slaughters Marauders, Dreadnoks being kicked around...?

- apparently the Missing beachhead knife WAS A MISTAKE!!! so... will they give us a replacement? or add an extra knife into an upcoming figure? Hmmmm.....

- it is confirmed that there WILL BE NO BACKWARD LOOK ON THE 25TH LINE, SO STOP ASKING... (it WAS 4 years ago...)

however, there IS A 30TH ANNIVERSARY LINE IN THE PLANNING STAGE.

so... Older figures on newer cards? canceled 25th figs in the 30th line?
Hmmmmm,......

- they are NOT gonna make remakes of the tomahawk, skystriker, tactical battle platform, or whale. SO STOP ASKING.
http://www.toyark.com/news/gi-joe-to...-answers-3414/

- No comic packs are planned this year,. but there WILL be a renegades comic

- snake eyes will have BOTH heads!

- no canadian variant stickers (sorry canuks)

- apparently therye 'aware" of our love for army builders 9alley Viper, jungle viper, shock viper0 and are 'looking into ways to get them to us more redily"
Snake Shadow09:
i wana see the renegades figures already!
Gothiczartan:
I like to see blowtorch, mutt and junkyard, ripcord, airtight, footloose, torpedo, alpine, bazooka, grunt, jinx, flint, lady jaye, the dreadnoks, tomax, xamot, tele-viper for the new gi joe line during POC, renegade line.
tuan_tran73:
I was hoping question and answer about life-line, airtight release in the near future with the classic look like low-light. Oh well!
ljtbinc:
They actually answered that question! Someone asked about them about the 30th anniversary, and would it be possible to see rehashes of some of the more icon vehicles like thomahawk, whale, skystricker, and esc. Or would it be a better idea too look up the vintage ones instead, and there reply was look up the vintage ones!!
Mainframe:
Thanks for the synopsis KOP!

I'm sure the cards will stll say "Renegades" on them though. Retail will want a refresh line by fall 2011, & Hasbro marketing will want to tie in the media. So I would expect POC-looking figures based on the characters of Renegades & the subtitle of Renegades to be on the cards/boxes eventually.

Think how Transformers has things like "Universe" or "Generations" on the box but can still be considered a continuation of "Classics"...

I think they just wanted to assure us the Renegades figures will be the same stylings, asthetics, & load-outs of POC, & not that "animated-style" figures will be taking their place. A continuation of POC but not necessarily POC as a subheader (although it's worded that way).

It's a great move on their part, as kids will know the animated series, & even if some collectors don't like the cartoon, they'll still like the figures
.
Steel Brigade:
Despite not planning any females currently... They need to make that Zarana figure from the Hasbro Tour!!

Actually, by extending the POC line, theres a good chance we'll be seeing Modern takes on classic characters like Lifeline and Airtight, as there were a few figures who 'didnt make he POC List" WITHIN POC.

as for the 30th line, who knows? they could start re-doing classic RAH figures, or they could even start doing other characters in 25th construction like the G.I.joe Extreme characters (there WAS an Iron Klaw proto sitting in the Hasbro office), New Sculpt characters like Crosshairs or Bombstrike, or figures that were cancelled , yet protod, like Zarana..

exactly!

a perfect example of this is how in the last run of the VvV line, the figures resembled the Sigma Six characters (Jinx, Storm Shadow, Kamakura, Snake Eyes) or how the Resolute figures kept the 25th constrction and was released within the 25th anniversary line.
MrClean:
The Wave 3 Duke already looked Renegades-inspired to me. So maybe that's what they mean, which is fine with me.
I'm also hoping that the answer about POC continuing means we'll see some of the cancelled figures make an appearance.

With Transformers though, Hunt For The Decepticons and Generations are merging onto one card/assortment; Reveal The Shield.

Here is where you guys come in, whatever you'd love to see in the 30th line, make polls, post threads, and provide constructive criticism. With POC possibly going on longer than planned and with Renegades figures sharing the same styling, it is very possible that figures missing from the 25th line could be included as "offscreen" figures in the lineup(s), maybe even prior to the 30th Anniversary, just like the Nano-viper, Kamakura, Charbroil, et al, were inserted into the later waves of ROC.

Remember though, when it comes to vintage molds, it's easier for Hasbro to create a new mold instead of retooling an old one from 20 years back. I remember the Oktober Guard comic pack from DTC or so. It had a heavily retooled o-ring body for the big dude I think. When it came to that, and the costs needed for the retooling, Hasbro said "never again".

A while back, someone counted how many figures were left to do in 25th style that had not been done yet. I was surprised to see that it really wasn't that many. So if you guys clamor for it, who knows. I'm pretty sure the move to realistic Renegades figures wasn't the result of a shareholder seeing $ signs when looking at figures, but as a direct result of the fandom.
The UK GIJoe:
I hope Hasbro do make more Wave's of the POC line as I believe the ones that we have got so far have been superb.Lets have some females in the line & a mixture of old & new characters solo or with vehicles.
It wouldn't surprise me if the reason we're possibly getting more waves is because of the impending S K Omega line out next year.
CliffSteele:
I once came across a site that had links to ALL of the different sites featuring Hasbro Q&A. I haven't been able to find it again for the life of me. Anybody here know what I'm talking about?
FIREFLY21:
theterrordrome has links to all the other Q&A's
kennywr22:
I've read all the q and a's and i still have a question. Maybe i'm missing something, so please clarify if you can. They stated renegades will be in the poc line and be realistic design, ok i got that. Do they also state that they are then going to a renegades line alltogether in the fall 2011, because they state a couple places about extending the poc line a bit to get some more in. That still sounds to me like it's ending? I, of course was full on wishing for an animted renegades line and i'm still wondering if that is gonna happen at all or not? PLease no bashers, i know 70% on here dont want that but i do and i still feel they would be a huge hit with kids. I still think the best stragety would be to have the animated line along with a smaller scale poc type line. Anyone here give me a clear answer, thanks.

Honestly, I think what we are going to see is a merged line. For example, with Transformers, Hasbro continued to put out movie figures in their Hunt For The Decepticons line, and Classics figures came back this year in the Generations line. Going into 2011, both lines are being merged into 1, with 1 style of card backing/packaging; Transformers Reveal The Shield.

Stylistically, do both types of figures, movie verse and Classics, differ? Hell yea. Yet that's not stopping Hasbro from releasing both under one line next year.

I'm guessing that's what will happen with GI Joe; Renegades and POC figures under one unified GI Joe line. Except I think the transition with GI Joe will be more streamlined since Hasbro has stated that the Renegades figure will feature the realistic styling and detail from the POC line.
kennywr22:
Thanks Shin. Man i know i'm in the minority here but im so disapointed in no animated line for renegades. I cant believe they wouldn't even give them their own line?? Crazy. Oh well.. Such a wasted opportunity. Sucks because fans of transformers were lucky to get those awesome animated style figures from the cartoon and i was so hoping joe fans were gonna get a taste of it too... Sucks!!

That's the thing, I think the GI Joe line in 2011 going into 2012 will primarily be Renegades focused starting in fall. Not in terms of styling, from what Hasbro has stated multiple times in the q/a, I think the realistic styling of POC will be preserved, just that character choice/costume will be from Renegades.

This way, with a unified line, the POC fans still get something, Renegades get something, and everyone gets Joes that won't stick out next to 25th Joes on their shelves. Win/win situation in a way. I would not be surprised if the figures missing from the 25th line end up in the 2011 line as "off-screen" characters.
