GI Joe Resolute Comic Pack Arctic Cobra Commander VS Arctic Scarlett Review

GI-Joe-Resolute-Comic-Pack-Arctic-Scarlett-VS-Arctic-Cobra-Commander-01
A line that most GI Joe fans miss is the beloved 25th Anniversary/Modern Era line. As Hasbro reinvents each brand annually for the new(and/or next) generation of younger fans, one can't deny that the Modern Era line of new figures based on the old classics is sorely missed. With the 30th Anniversary of GI Joe A Real American Hero approaching in 2 years, will Hasbro use 2012 as an opportunity to revisit the Modern Era line, and continue the success with the fans, of the 25th anniversary line?

Today we get a look at 2 of the canceled items that were set to debut at the tail end of the Modern Era line, the Comic Pack figures of Arctic Scarlett VS Arctic Cobra Commander. HISS Tank boards member Dryhawk37 got his hands on this set recently, and has reviewed them. Like the last comic packs, this set was to include a GI Joe Resolute comic, and Resolute is another labor of love the fans miss as well. To see how this pack of figures turned out, hit the discuss button!

Dryhawk37:

One of the last to be released 25th/ME comic packs that was cancelled was to include an arctic themed Cobra Commander and an arctic themed Scarlett. Due to the movie figures coming out, this comic pack and a few others were cancelled.

This Cobra Commander uses quite a bit of new sculpting, so I am surprised that this did not get re-used to make other figures. It also has a unique pistol and a scepter made of gold plastic. The colors on the Cobra Commander are actually very cool in my opinion. I was very disappointed to learn that this figure had been cancelled. His baby blue cobra symbol on his coat and the black trim makes this one of my favorite cancelled figures of the line. He is sporting a holster on his left side that fits his pistol, and has a trim piece around his neck to look like a parka style collar. His long coat extends past his crotch area, which does make him hard to pose, but makes the look of the figure that much more appealing.

The arctic Scarlett figure is pretty cool, but pales in comparison to the Cobra Commander. Her accessories are repainted skis, poles, backpack and rifle. The pistol is one that the original 25th Scarlett came with, and is difficult for her to hold. The web gear on her makes her look interesting, but I would have opted for some type of head gear (like a wool hat or ear muffs). Still a nice figure that unfortunately will never see the light of day.

storymodeller:
Add my name to both lists: thanks for the review, and damn now I want those two figures. (I also agree that Scarlett would be even better with a hat....)
zpartikuz:
Arctic CC is pretty bad @$$...
CobrasUsedCars:
It's a shame Hasbro could not have let the club take these for joecon exclusives or something
dgnr82:
very time I see that CC, I think he's wearing a dress....
Rainbow Viper:
they always cancel the figures that are cool. the scarlett molds were great...shame they didn't use her for the massive repaint bandwagon. :(
Steel Brigade:
WOW man, you beat us all on those, I have the Scareltt but not the CC or any of the gear... I salute you!
Troynos:
That Scarlett is awesome.
Jettfire:
That was a great review of some awesome figures. Hopefully they'll show up in the wild somewhere down the line!
SNAKE EYES:
Cool thanks for the pics and great review.

I've never seen Arctic CC show up anywhere... did you get them on TaoBao or eBay?

who said they couldn't? you are assuming the club asked for it and were told no simply because they aren't coming as club exclusives. that's a pretty ridiculous conclusion to come to. it is possible that the club hasn't asked to make these or doesn't want to.

I know. every figure they released during the 25th/ME lines suck, and they are keeping all the cool ones for themselves.

We'll know for sure next month. I'll make sure to bring that up at the QnA's.

Well maybe not know for sure if they give a cryptic answer, but we'll have a better idea.
Weezus:
i dont like arctic figures.

!!!!!!
NeoDragonKnight:
The scarlet is ok, the CC is really neat though, I would have got the CP if it came out.
Zefram:
Wasn't that Scarlett sopposed to be a tribute to Quarrel like Pilot Scarlett was to Glenda? Too bad she didn't see light of day. A black dye-job and I'd have had a new international character.

boff123:
where is the petition? hasbro should throw these up on the hasbrotoyshop.com
Breakerfan:
I would buy that if they released it. That CC is awesome.
PitViper:
Wow these are both great! Loving that CC.

Maybe I should pass on PoC and save my money for the 30th Anniversary
paraviper:
I hope we see these in the future. Both figures look great.
IronMan76:
I would love to buy those figures, too bad Hasbro wants to go in a different direction...
steve2477:
I would have loved to have these.
optimusred6:
there pretty nice the artic scarlett & cobra commander
samantha:
Thanks for sharing. I really wish they had sold this comic pack.
Pathless:
sucks, they cancel this but make a crappy mindbender and "air-viper". what a crock. someone at hasbro needs a smack
Gatekeeper:
Those are nice. It just adds to 'Hasbro doesn't get it' to me. They take the time and money to make something only not to make it and then put out stuff that collects dust.
arashikage tat:
these are both so badass
KushViper:
God SMurf it! I want that scarlet so bad!
Monkeywrench:
thanks
green_shirt:
Ah... it makes me cry a little inside each time I see the what could have beens.
Steel:
That CC looks really cool. I keep coming back and looking at it.
strick9:
So this got canceled and the 120 different Ripcords and Dukes got the green light? I don't know what to say. I would like it if instead of asking the normal "when are we gonna see this, and that," Q&A's. Someone put the Hasbo guy in the hot seat and explain the reasoning behind some of these decisions.
Joecom:
Awesome! figures I really want that Scarlett.
It's a real shame these aren't getting made
80sKid:
Let me ask you all something. When Hasbro reinvents the line for the "next generation" do they really sell more product? I mean if they kept the Modern Era/Resolute line going, which I know all you fellow tankers would scavenge the land for, would they not turn a profit? Why not sell what, as i believe it to be, a profitable toy line that has legions of loyal followers? Maybe I'm wrong but my gut tells me that if they stuck to the script they would make money thus everyone would be satisfied... Is this too logical? Or am I crazy?
Also where did you get these figures? I dont expect you to reveal your sources but wow great score! I commend you for digging and unearthing the gems that a diehard Joe fan really wants! I salute you!

I don't post regularly but I read most of the threads, and I really agree with this statement.
Resolute was a perfect match between Modern Era ARAH - 25th Ann. continuation, but movie style figures are not many fans thing, not even new ones.
As it has been seen, packaging was dismissed and most of the figures being a dark or black colored variant is quite boring.
The only one appealing is that PoC Beach Head, but the rest left much to be desired in comparison with these Resolute figures.
GhostGL:
I want that CC. But i'd rather the blue be red. But his helmet stripe could be white.
tile_mcgillus:
Yeah this stuff just makes me angry. They literally couldn't keep the 25th on the shelves and now these ROC figures just rot on the pegs... and I mean rot. It shows a level of incompetence to discontinue a successful line for a failed one and continue down that path without a second thought.

I want to spend money on GIJOES...

I would buy that 2 pack in a heartbeat.
minstrelboy:
If there's one thing everyone that frequents this site agrees upon, it's that Hasbro does not seem to get it. If they repackaged and resold the entire 1982-1994 line updated with the new articulation, the line would be safe for years to come. It's obvious that when they start screwing with the basic formula, the fans lose interest, and the new gimicks are too transparent to stand on their own. It happened at the end of the original GI Joe, although there were other factors including the price of oil, the Vietnam war and other competitive lines of toys. With ARAH, the line started to flounder when they strayed and busted out DEF, Mega Marines, Ninja Force and various other sub-groups of the Joe team. Again, other factors are to be considered, such as franchises like the TMNT and Power Rangers that stole the spotlight. Through failed restructuring as Sgt. Savage and Extreme, and up to the Sigma Six line, GI Joe struggled; but they prevailed along with VvV and DTC, and to a lesser extent, Spy Troops. The new articulation for the 25th anniversary reignited a huge renaissance for GI Joe, but then, as we've all seen time and time again, people started to lose interest with the ROC line. Interesting that the Resolute line, as temporary as it was, had the exact opposite effect, and yet, all I see when I go looking for Joes are ROC at the store. So, as inevitable as the tides, interest in GI Joe will rise and wane, but it will always be there for those of us who remain faithful to the line; and the overwhelming majority of those are ARAH fans. Not to discount those that enjoy the other incarnations of GI Joe, but ARAH is the most prominent. I'm interested to see the new things that Hasbro will do with GI Joe, so long as it doesn't become another death knell for the line. I like new ideas and concepts and characters and vehicles and accessories (the only thing I ask is keep them in the same scale). But why can't we have both lines continue? How many different versions are there of Transformers at any given time? Let Hasbro try their "flavor-of-the-week" line, but they should also keep those of us faithful to their product by placating us with the continued Modern Era figures, and eventually, one day, allowing us to have access to virtually every character we once had as kids.

Just sayin.
DJ Radio Raheem:
Scarlett is cool, but CC is terrible.
Jbluez:
The "Modern era" phrase continues to perplex me. It never made sense why a tribute line that represents how things were in 1980 is referred to as "modern".
sparhawk:
Gods love Marshalls and TJ Maxxes. My 25th BAT army grows..... GROWS!!!
