Shout! Factory has announced a new GI Joe The Movie Trailer Contest! So what does this contest entail? Read on:
Shout! Factory is inviting all G.I. Joe fans to try their hand in making a trailer for this Blu-ray + DVD release. Here is how it works:1. Entries accepted 5/26 – 8/16/10. One entry per person only. Submission should be made in the form of a low-resolution Quicktime (.mov) file. It should be uploaded to a file sharing service (YouSendIt, MediaShare, etc.) with the link emailed to YoJoe@ShoutFactory.com. If selected, we will request a high-resolution version.
2. Entries can only be received via email and must include entrant’s name, email, phone # and address in the body of the email.
3. Open to contestants 18 years and older who reside in the U.S or Canada.
4. Grand prize is the bragging rights to being the creative mastermind behind the ‘Official GI Joe: The Movie on Blu-ray & DVD’ trailer. The winning trailer will be used online and on future Shout Factory DVD releases to promote the title in perpetuity. Winner understands this and must sign the appropriate release.
5. Three runners-up (and the grand prize winner) will receive one each of the complete G.I. Joe A Real American Hero series in the special edition Footlocker.
6. Winners will be notified by Aug. 31, 2010. Shout’s decision on winning entries is final.
7. Trailer length must not exceed 3 minutes.
8. Be smart… do not include copyrighted material that is not from this movie. Do not use music that you did not create. Anyone who appears on camera or who creates anything that appears on camera should be over 18 and if not, you are responsible for obtaining a release from the parent of any minor.
9. There are a few elements that should be included in your trailer:
a. Box art in some form that is recognizable.
b. Copy that the title is available as a DVD or as a BluRay + DVD combination.
c. Special features include audio commentary with Buzz Dixon, public service announcements, an art gallery and a printable screenplay.
d. Shout Factory logo and ShoutFactory.com URL.
e. Hasbro copyright line: HASBRO and its logo, G.I. JOE and all related characters are trademarks of Hasbro and are used with permission. © 2010 Hasbro. All Rights Reserved.
f. You may include your name and desired credit on the trailer.
10. Contestants realize that by submitting an official entry that they release Shout Factory, GI JOE, Hasbro and everyone else from responsibility for any damages, expenses, or harm they might incur while creating or submitting trailer.
Best of luck!

Uh, how do we make a trailer? Are they going to provide us clips? Is it supposed to be a video trailer? What software do we use?

Interested in entering this but the rules seem to be a little vague. Am I to understand that we're allowed to use video footage from previous non-Shout! Factory releases of the 1987 movie (like the Kid Rhino GI Joe the Movie DVD that came out in 2000)? Or is the trailer supposed to contain nothing but "live" footage?
BWard says
Hey, gang--
My name is Brian Ward and I am the producer of the G.I. Joe DVDs and Blu-ray from Shout! Factory. I wanted to come by and answer questions re: the trailer contest.
Basically, the world is your oyster. The footage can be "rough" footage taken from any previous release (high-res footage will be given to you to replace it, if yours is selected as the winner). It can also be live-action footage you've decided to recreate. We're looking for creativity and the best possible way to get the fans the knowledge of the DVD and Blu-ray's release.
You will be sending us a link with a low-res version of the trailer and we'll be judging from that. Then, we'll ask for a high-res version later, which is when we'll be providing you with video files, etc.

Thanks, guys. Have fun!
