According to Variety Magazine, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences(AMPAS) board of governors has finally lifted a ban on movie advertising during the Academy Awards telecast! A G.I. Joe:Rise of Cobra trailer might be shown during the next telecast! Another summer blockbuster that might show a trailer is Transformers:Revenge of the Fallen. The next Academy Awards telecast is set for February 22, 2009, 5PM PT/8PM ET.

    Now, I know this is a GI Joe news site, but saying that a trailer MIGHT be shown on TV in 4 and a half months seems a little weak to me. I also know that you're just reporting a Variety ad, so I absolutely don't blame this HissTank.com folks.

    I can't get excited aout that....that is a so freakin' long time to wait. I'd like to see something during the Superbowl! They have to do that....footage will be leaked before that I am sure though.

    Here's to hoping we get a glimpse. Sould be nice to have something to argue about on the boards once it airs. All the guessing and speculation at this point about how bad this movie will be is getting old.

    I'm not saying it'll be good, but I'm pragmatic and will wait to see it in it's entirety before I burn it...

    Ads for whorehouses might be shown on the Oscars too. Or ads for abortion clinics. Or recruiting ads for Al Queda.

    It isn't too much longer and It might not be the first trailer. We might see something before the year is over.

    I am not certain the Academy Awards audience is the target market for a Joe movie, he Super Bowl would seem to make more sense. though I suppose doing one doesn't eliminate the other, so airing it during both is the best of both worlds. as long as it gets a good marketing push, nobody should be complaining at all.

    Theres gotta be something before then...I mean isn't that only 4 or 5 months before its release? It'll be Christmas for sure, if nothing more than to sell toys...

    There won't be trailers for both GIJOE and Transformers. Part of the restrictions still in place for film ads during the Academy Awards is that the film can't already be in theaters and more importantly, only one film per distributor can be advertised. As Paramount is handling both of these films, I doubt either will get a trailer shown because they both come out later in the summer. A much better bet for Paramount's only trailer would be Star Trek coming out in May.

    I would guess we'll see a teaser trailer for GIJOE and TF2 this Christmas with full trailers attached to Star Trek in May.
