Ninja Combat Cruiser Found At Target

What a surprise! HissTank boards member JediJones came across the GI Joe Retaliation Ninja Combat Cruiser at his local Target store! More info:

" I found one of these today at Target in Pennsylvania. Looks like it ships 1-per-case with a H.I.S.S. filling the other slot. It rings up in the system correctly for $19.99.

The UPC is 6 53569 75747 4

The Asst. Code is 98489/39981 Asst.

The date stamp on back is 21281 which means it was produced on May 7th, 2012, which I think was exactly 2 weeks before the press release announcing the movie's delay came out.
"

Happy hunting!

RolandofGilead:
That is awesome!
Dem_Yoe'z!:
Can we get the SKU number?
DarkHorse:
Cool! I want one!
CrimsonGuard101:
Sweet..hopefully this is not a fluke...I need a few of these to "fix" its flaws with paint and color scehem...this is a Stinger dabnit...not a ninja cruiser...
JediJones:
What's an SKU?

Target's DPCI is the same as for the H.I.S.S. and Ghost Hawk. 087060253.

The UPC is 6 53569 75747 4

The Asst. Code is 98489/39981 Asst.

The date stamp on back is 21281 which means it was produced on May 7th, 2012, which I think was exactly 2 weeks before the press release announcing the movie's delay came out.

How did you decipher the code date?

Julian date would be 12128

They could not have been produced and shipped from China in that amount of time.
nighthawk:
I hope you open it and do a review.

It's standard date-stamping that Mattel and Hasbro have been using for years. First digit is the last digit of the year, next 3 digits are the chronologically counted day of the year.

I have seen toys hit the shelves here after being produced only 6 weeks ago in some cases. 8-10 weeks is the normal, average, typical time, which applies here. Anything longer than that usually only happens when things were held back for a street date or a lot of pegwarmers have been gumming up the system.

Another site did take some shots of it opened here back on May 3rd. They must have got one hot off the assembly line:

Freak! I want this!!!!
Jmacq1:
Makes me wonder if we just might see a few cases of Wave II figures hitting shelves before the end of the year.
geekacres:
I almost hate to ask... Driver status ? Expecting 5-point articulation, hoping for better.

Nothing changed with the driver. Its the same 80s star wars figure it always was.
MJjoe4life:
Sweet find!!!! I cant wait to get a couple of these!!!
fireflyguy:
I just checked my local Target. Nuthin. If any of ou find one and don't want it, get it or me. I'll pay 15% above cost plus shipping.
gk11973:
what store in PA?
red4:
I'll try my luck today. But if there's any consistency to it, I won't find a damn thing.

I know about that one. I'm hoping for a proper review with close ups and even a close up of how the driver is too.
Boombatty:
Yeah the Fangboat driver, Swamp viper is craptacular as well. Same 5 points of articulation no elbow bend, no ball joint shoulders or legs. No knee, foot or ankle articulation. Aweful figure.
fireflyguy:
Also, if anyone gets the combat cruiser but doesn't want the driver, I'll take him.

To go with your Modern Era The Corps collection?
footloose:
nice.. the one vehicle from this line i plan to buy
red4:
Just got back from Target. They didn't have any, and they checked with a couple more nearby Targets. Nothing.
PhantomStranger:
Really hope this comes out here. This is the only vehicle I care about from the retaliation line until the Night landing comes out.
youdoitimbusy:
Now if we could get some new figures, that would be great.
hurricane:
how does that date stamp tell you the production date?

that is pretty interesting, please school me on date stamps
ndb:
Nice! I hope I get this lucky!
CrimsonGuard101:
SO no other sightings as of today? Damn :(

Fact smack-down! Nice.
Fred Broca XIII:
I liked the idea of this for customizing since I hate the plastic colors they chose...unfortunately my local stores don't believe in stocking GI Joe, they just put out tantalizing peg hooks and shelf labels claiming that they sell the product, but never ever stocking it...what we really need in the lull is some rewind figure waves...make a GD single carded Alpine, and make him possible to acquire unlike that fabled last piece of the MASS Device...and single card some Range Vipers and other 7 pack exclusives that didn't get single cards...
manic mailman:
any1 remember the link for looking up upc's at your local targets online?

you typed in the code and your zip and it showed the status of that item in your area.
JediJones:
The link doesn't use UPCs, it uses Target's DPCIs. Those are the same for a whole assortment, so you cannot differentiate between a H.I.S.S., Ghost Hawk or Ninja Combat Cruiser. The best thing you can do is take note of stores which are out-of-stock or have "limited availability" and then when they switch to in-stock status, you'll know they got a case in. Here is the link with the DPCI of the Alpha vehicles.

Hasbro already stated driver status of 5 point articulation is here to stay to keep cost down. That came from John Warden.

If you know what the dcpi is, when you click that link you just switch it in the web address.

I agree with you. I think this vehicle might have originally been a Cobra Vehicle and modern version of the Cobra Stinger. The figure looks like a modern Cobra Viper and where the Arashikage symbol is could easy have been a Cobra symbol. Also the doors are the same doors from the Cobra Stringer. It is a modern version, because there is more seat room and the missile turrent is modern missile turrent. So, I think this coulld have been a modern version of a Cobra Stringer, yet since the Joes have no big vehicle in the retailation series and Cobra has the Hiss Tank, this was switched from a Cobra vehicle to a GI Joe Vehicle.

I was surprised at how cool this vehicle actually is. Especially that the Arashikage symbol is a sticker and not printed. I definitely plan on grabbing a few more of these for custom Cobra Stingers
