GIJOE Retaliation Movie Toys In 2013 - GI Joe News
Troynos:
First seen of that Flint with the parachute (next to Ultimate Duke). Great figure.
cobraEdaco:
That makes me feel a little bit better...

I don't remember seeing him either. What wave will he be in?
lancelot2021:
Looking at these action figures reminds me why I'm so bitter about the 3D thing.
firmpulse:
"HISSTASK.com", huh? i'm registering that url now
KMFDMFAN:
Me too. Cobra Eel with Night Landing craft? Night Viper?! I see a covert mission diorama in my future. :-)
miscreant:
" led buy ultimate Ninja Commando Roadblock these elite heroes defend the globe fom the evil forces of Cobra."

Love the subliminal message.
Superjoe74:
I've lost the feeling of excitement since seeing these figures first revealed but, that does not mean they are of any less quality or any less collectible. There are many awesome figures here- and a tremendous amount of accessories. I will purchase nearly all of them.
Another possibility to look forward to is that the Cobra DATA Viper maybe released. Both the Drone (with Ultimate Duke) and the DV body (Tactical 3 pack Airborne) are used in the Retaliation line. One can only hope..
Konigstiger:
Damn, I was hoping Jinx was gonna be yellow paint on a black base.

Anyhoo, Here's to hoping all that great, late-wave stuff makes it out.
Str8cash:
I will be buying a few of those Flint's just for the Beret.
M_renegade:
Hum, i saw everything here, but there's somerthing that i didn't realized, that Ultimate Duke with the little plane has lots of retooling!
The lower arms (including hands apparently) and legs are new.
And the gear is pretty smart:
that helmet extra head seems to be from 5PoA Nightfox from the Humvee...
This Duke is probably the first Duke that will be hard to find. Damned army builders!

Well, yellow is better!
You can paint easier on a light colored surface tan black.
Or better, you can dye the yellow plastic into black or red if you want (you can't dye black figs)

Dyeing is hit or miss with me, and taking some 1000 grit sand paper to areas around the joints would be less work as I'm painting the whole thing black/off-black.

Much prefer a black surface incase of paint rub. Your results obviously varied.
MJjoe4life:
I am definitely getting all of these figures! Cant wait for them to hit the stores.
Syn3sthesia:
But what if GI JOE Remix gets delayed again.

Hum, you should ask some customizers about dyeing, it really works if done correctly. And there's no paint rub with it!

At least hands, and knees-down is all black casting, soft plastic is a bitch to work with paint or sculpt.
(funny, the picture of the package has full black legs)
Money-B:
Shipping as soon as December?

Is there a street date yet?
Ash Talon:
There's also the Ultimate Roadblock which for some reason wasn't covered very much in the press. I think this is the only pic of him I've seen.

http://www.hisstank.com/database/att...1341198977.jpg

The 3 figures shown in the pic above are probably the 3 coolest, upcoming Joe figures (good guys I mean).

No, the delay and the "off time" of the film's release pretty much put the kibosh on any street dates. Hasbro's posted some "estimated availability" dates, but more than likely Joe will cycle onto retailer shelves in the post Christmas reset and go from there.

Remember, Hasbro still has leftover wave 1 and wave 2 stuff to sell before they get to the goodies in wave 3.

That Flint (along with a new, more accurate, Roadblock and Red Ninja) were "accidentally" put on the displays during the convention. Presumably, they are slated for release after wave 4 (be it wave 5 itself with the Crimson Guard or a future wave). Gives me great hope that a movie accurate Cobra Commander is slated for release.

Wave 5 doesn't have a final wave breakdown (aside from getting the Crimson Guard), nor a firm release date, probably a precaution in case Joe sales are less than stellar.
emags:
What is dark ninja? A Cobra (sounds like it)? Joe? Or Arashikage (looks like it based on the package) ?
Tomahawk:
nice!
Topside:
Meh. A couple of good looking figs there but mostly stuff I won't be buying. I hate ninjas and I do not like the new ankle articulation.
I wish there was a better release of 30th and PoC stuff. Those were some kick ass figures.
jeffafa:
Three things I cant wait for:
Night Viper - and I dont care, he is going straight to my 25th shelf
The box of guns with the night landing set
The box of weapons that comes with Jinx
neapolitan joe:
What about Europe!?
lance858a:
Dang, I really need to clear out my fodder bin to justify getting these. I couldn't tell from the pics but can anyone tell me if they went cheap on these figures like how they went cheap on wave 1 Road Block's lack of double jointed knees and ankle articulation? That was really annoying. It was a giant cheap backwards (play on giant leap) in action figure design.
Lantern_Lad:
Damn... I was hoping there was some new news.
blackman2005:
If you think these are going to be found in decent quantities in retail you're in for a shock. With stores looking to reduce the amount of space for toys in 2013 as well as enable methods to reduce overstock of toys to remedy the need to place things on clearance; I wouldn't be shocked that G.I. Joe is placed on the chopping block as a collectible/seasonable item which big retailers can chose for the brand to only be sold in certain locations.

Additionally, mix that in with bad timing and these are going to be a b%^&* to find. For the last six years at lease, stores have basically cut down the orders for toys between December and June. Now with stores wanting less spce for toys, you can bet that no new orders for action figures will be placed by stores like Target, Walmart and TRU during this time. If we are lucky, we may see Waves 2-3 surface here and there but crap, Retaliation isn't even being released during the summer so they may not bother.

On the other hand, if Retaliation is pushed back by two months with a release date of May 17th, it would give these toys a better chance at selling in stores.

If you go by the packaging then everything is Arashikage Clan, including the vehicles...!

Eh, that would still be an improvement on what we see today. Like being the best horse at a glue factory.

I disagree, in that I still firmly believe stores WILL stock GI Joe in the post Christmas resets to some degree (if nothing else, I think Hasbro will push them to carry the line).
However, I do have concerns how much wave 1 and 2 Hasbro's going to ship to retailers, and if those sales are weak, we might not see wave 3 or 4 until the fall (again, I think Hasbro will push the retailers to carry the line through Christmas to cover the DVD release).
As I said early on, I really suspect Hasbro kept quiet on wave 5 (which might have also included those awesome "ultimate movie accurate" Flint and Roadblock figures) to cover themselves in case sales are weak and they can't get that wave produced (like what happened with Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which saw 2 waves of cancelled product)

I do agree that the delay killed any leftover goodwill the brand might have had and I don't think we're going to see as much retail support as it might have gotten this year (which might equate to a better run line since there would be far less incentive to overstock early on)

I don't think so, I really don't. The prior two fast and furious films, along with the recent Clash/Wrath of the Titans were all "spring releases" to generally solid numbers. But more importantly, Retaliation's date gives it time to breath in theatres before Iron Man 3, Star Trek 2, and Fast 6 all hit theatres in May. All of those are well established brands which would overshadow Joe completely.

At least with the March 30 date, Joe has a good 3 or 4 weekends being among the only "big action films" on the market, which increases the chance of increasing the brand's visability.
Justus Prime:
These figures give me hope for the line. Maybe the first wave was purposed to shock us and make us look the other way in anger while they postponed the film....? (Confusion)
tycondrius:
well I sure hope they fix the distribution mess of the ninja night cruiser I so want one but no paying 70+ on evil bay for one
Dusty Ayers:
Hopefully we will have some new Joe product in the shelves in time for Christmas.
Still Wind:
This may have been addressed, but shouldn't these figures be pushed out now during the holiday rush? I don't see many parents buying their kids toys in January or much after until late spring early summer.
Still Wind:
What do you folks think?
SPECTER:
That Duke looks amazing. So bought.
Xerofall:
A lot of troop builders. I'm okay with that. I think I'm officially done with Snake Eyes however.

Seriously, you'd have to check with local sources, but I wouldn't hold my breath for Europe to carry GI Joe unless the film is a MAJOR hit.

The first two waves (well, three actually) were largely produced using concept art and unfinished assets. The reduced articulation was likely done to cut some costs since the figures would not be screen accurate (and therefore, less likely to be reused as the basis for future figures).

The film still doesn't come out for another 4 and a half months. The marketing hasn't even started up again. Stores aren't going to devote a bunch of retail space for a movie that won't be out until next year, and most kids don't know or care about Joe right now.

Again, toys will probably start filtering in during December, maybe onto shelves as stores throw anything they have out to sell at Christmas, but we probably won't see any sort of big push until the spring resets in the middle of January.
Jinx723:
We are screwed no matter what. I really doubt we'll see anything 'new' at retail during the Christmas rush. If we do it's gonna be wave 1 crap that got pulled off shelves and are sitting in the back or at distribution centers. After the Holidays retailers don't order anything, it's not just toys that don't get ordered. Jan/Feb is when resets are done and inventory. I still believe we will see Retaliation toys late February/early March regardless because of the Movie. what's gonna suck is, we know damn well that Hasbro is starting over with wave 1, when the toys come out. The majority of us got what we wanted in June and it'll be up to the kids to buy what's out there(yeah, right). If Hasbro were smart enough to take there heads out of their ass. They would start with w2 hitting the stores come February. Save the wave 1 crap for later revision cases, around May, June, whenever the DVD gets released. That way when August/September hit we can have waves 4-5 during toy season which is the end of summer and the Holiday season. Quite frankly it's all up to Hasbro how they release the stuff. Me, I'll be pre-ordering and getting my stuff online. I'm not gonna waste time with retailers flooded with w1 & 2.

You're right, that RB wasn't shown before, nice find!

No.
Apparently the lack of articulation was their genius move to save cash.
You get less on the first wave, and cool stuff at last.
Of course, by the time they release wave 1 again, everyone would have tons of them... who would want that W1 Hunchback RB when you have the Ultimate Rockblock on wave 4?

Quote:

Well, the "Ultimate" SE is quite generic, i think is basically the same figure than Torpedo with the nightboat. Might not be cool as SE, but is pretty cool for divers or athletic figures.
Caravankidd:
With some nice non-movie figures mixed into the movie line there are figures to look forward to for sure.

But as bad as Hasbro distribution has been I'm a little worried that stuff might not hit in time for the Christmas buying rush. Given that the film is not being released in one of the big movie months I'm also a bit worried that the film is really going to have be something to move toys.

If the film doesn't revive the line to push toys then with no cartoon on The Hub I just don't know how strong GI Joe as a brand will be if retailers have to clearance off a glut of movie toys.
Laser Viper:
Man! Night Viper and the Crimson Guard Troopers are my main buys for next year! Everything else ill have to wait and see in person.
foxtrot27:
Lets not kid ourselves and I hate to put a dark cloud over everyones head but with the tax hikes on "rich companies" coming next year I guarantee you we won't see 1/4 of these figures due to cost cutting.

*ahem*

whitefox360:
I think a lot of the hate that these figures get comes from the fact that most of us know we're not gonna see half of them at retail.

I'm excited, but i'm ordering online. I can't see the wave 1 stuff selling enough for store shelves to make it to wave 3, much less 5 where, yet again, all the good stuff that would actually sell is.

I hope i'm wrong, as i think most of us do, but seeing how wave 2 is mostly wave 1, as per usual, i dont see it happening. Hasbro hoping these things sell through enough to get to the 'good product' seems like a bad idea when the brand, especially at this point, needs to lead with its best foot forward.
SPECTER:
They better get released. That Duke might just be my favorite Joe figure of all time.
What wave is Lady Jaye? 2 or 3.
GIMark:
Not sure if anyone noticed this but some of the figures have a release date of 3/8/13, so not sure how many of these we will ahve to wait for till March
supersonicshion:
That Roadblock is absolutely awesome. Now these are the figures are an absolute must.

They look like a huge improvement from what weve seen before:

... now as far as Im concerned, I will have to order them online anyway, they wont be imported here .
WildWeaselZ06:
I don't know, I could be missing the mark here. When I was talking to the Hasbro marketing guy at JoeCon, I asked if there would be repacks from earlier waves in the new wave cases. I understand his answer to be that each new wave would only have the new characters from that wave. That they wouldn't be carrying over figures from earlier waves.

I hope that's right. Be nice not to see them do it like they did with ROC

Hasbro always has "estimated" availability dates posted on their placards. In a perfect world, wave 3 (the one with March on the cards, and includes Ultimate Duke and Firefly) should start appearing at retail in March right before the film's release.
We'll see how that goes with how much wave 1 and 2 Hasbro may be sitting on.

That won't happen, period. Now, they might be pushing to REDUCE the amount of figure carryover, especially early on, but it isn't practical (or even a good marketing strategy) to remove figure carryovers.

My suspicion is that Hasbro still has a good amount of wave 1 and especially wave 2 (which includes the first "movie accurate" Roadblock and the movie accurate Snake Eyes), so wave 3 is being viewed as a "fresh start" and that case will only contain figures from that wave. The assumption being that retailers will still have a bunch of Snake Eyes, Roadblocks, and Storm Shadows from the prior case assortments.

With wave 4 only having 4 new figures, I can't see Hasbro packing that case as 3x each (especially the Cyber Ninja or Jinx), so they could pack that as 2x each figure, giving 4 extra slots to cycle in the wave 3 Duke, Firefly, Combat Ninja and maybe Joe Colton.

But I can't see them doing cases without some of those prior figures, especially the movie accurate Snake Eyes, Duke, Firefly or Combat Ninja.
