One of the biggest films of 2012 G.I. Joe Retaliation, the part-sequel, part-reboot, of the G.I. Joe Movie franchise, makes it Super Bowl premiere tonight, giving it exposure to 90+ million viewers. The GIJOE Super Bowl Trailer was released early, and the fans of GIJOE responded with excitement, and enthusiasm, over the new direction Jon M Chu has taken the GIJOE Movie franchise. Whether or not the general movie going public will be won over by the GIJOE Super Bowl Trailer is the real question?
GIJOE Retaliation Stars: Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock, Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum, Ray Park, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Stevenson, and Faran Tahir as Cobra Commander.

looked pretty wack to me. i would assume others may find it to be wack as well.

Is "wack" good? I'm old and don't know.

samantha:
The trailer did look nice on my flat screen.
Starfighter:
Nice to me!
RolandofGilead:
Made me want to go out and see it.
wormser:
confirmed it will not be a movie i will see. the trailer looked great in hd though. beats what youtube looked like
CobraCrimson:
Considering we've already seen it at least once on here/youtube, it was okay and yes, I can't wait to see it.
red4:
That wall lacked articulation, but the missile bike took care of it.
Jeffrozup:
The trailer didn't look any different than the ROC one from the Super Bowl 2 years ago.
PROVOST:
I saw a lot of articulation in that trailer.

I agree 100%. I even made a thread about how RoC and Retaliation will be very similar. Got blasted for it but at least someone seen what I did.
Flint071:
This is the end of the line - the death of a franchise - you know it's bad when it shows with 3 minutes left in the first half of the Superbowl.
My god - Battleship got the first movie trailer slot.
That's it man, game over.
...STFU, looks good, can't wait.
darthmaul1:
Ok how can this be part-sequel, part-reboot, of the G.I. Joe Movie franchise? It's just a sequel! That is all!
Flint071:
ROC Sucked

Exactly
drunknmunky:
The people I'm watching the game with all saw RoC and all 5 people all thought Retaliation looked exactly like RoC. Now mind you they all had different opinions of RoC (a couple loved it, couple hated it, one said he liked the explosions lol). The people who will make or break Retaliation are the non fans. Most fans are going to see this movie no matter what. But if the average viewer, with no ties to Joes, thinks it looks just like RoC then that's what matters. Fans are a percentage of the viewers. But RoC didn't make 300+ million just from fans. Retaliation needs to pull in the people who seen RoC (whether they loved or hated it) plus people who never seen the first film. From the few people I watched it with, they basically said it looked like the first one but now with The Rock. If the public feels the same way then the movie might flop, regardless of how good (or bad) it actually is.
Nirvana:
All I saw in the crowd were eye rolls and shaking of heads. The trailer did have a very RoC feel to it.
Gyre-Viper:
i am speechless.
some of the comments in this thread.
roc was shit from the start.
retaliation looks bounds and leaps better.

Not from the Super Bowl teaser alone. Most of us know it's better than RoC because we've been scrutinizing every detail that leaks our way from the start. But people who have only seen the teaser can't see it through our eyes - at least not yet.
Beckley:
To quote my wife- "That one seemed lamer than the trailer we saw in the theater."
I asked her to explain and she said the original trailer looked exciting but the Superbowl one "just looked like lame Gi.joe-ness"
I know my buddies collectively groaned when the Rock quoted JayZ.
I still think it's gonna be a fun movie, I KNOW it will be better than ROC.
Raw Dog:
I am home alone and everyone I'm watching the Super Bowl with loved the trailer myself included.
Clobbertron:
Its the end of the world anyway so chill. The Rock and Bruce are going to save this shit.
stormrider9988:
at my house there is about12 people and most of them seemed to dig it my wifes bother was like dude the rock and bruce in the same movie holy s@^$6t.. more people will see it when we get the full trailer in a few months
the odinson:
i still have hope this will be a good movie. and while this trailer is a little too hip for my tastes (honestly the music plays a big part in that) and is not as exciting as the first trailer was to me, all signs still loudly point to a vast improvement over roc.
which ain't sayin' much, but i'll take it. we'll see.
Beckley:
I'll tell you what a badass commercial was- The Clint Eastwood Dodge Chrysler spot.
Imported from Detroit bitches!
I was at the pizza joint. Nobody paid any attention to it. Same with the Avengers preview. But they were all laughing their asses off at the commercials with the talking baby & the other one with Betty White.
Seriously, why would you guys expect anybody to care about GI Joe? Where is the cartoon? Where are the toys in the stores? Every Walmart I go to is either completely empty or has 1 Firefly or 1 Snake Eyes hanging there. Month after month the bastards absolutely will not restock. How is anybody supposed to take the toy line seriously? How are kids supposed to get into it? Kids aren't going to pre-order cases from BBTS. They're supposed to be sold in the stores. Plain & simple. If it was like this back in the 80's how many of you would have gotten into it? No cartoon, no toys= no interest. Something Hasbro just doesn't understand.

It's a shame Prometheus didn't have a trailer. But then, I think it's due to public health concerns, because Prometheus is going to give everyone heart attacks of awesomeness when it hits theaters.

I think they should have made Alien & Aliens & then called it quits.

Except Prometheus is a prequel to Alien, and it's being directed by Ridley Scott. It's mathematically guaranteed to be bad ass.
Lody:
Why was it so short?
teemu8:
again,trailer ruined by garbage music
Firefly9145:
It was good makes me wanna go out and buy 5 p.o.a. Gi joes
kennywr22:
Great trailer. While not a fan of rap at all, i feel it worked for the trailer and probably grabbed todays youth as well. This movie is really looking badass.

dude, i seriously agree with you on this. it has gotten to the point, for me at least, trying to understand hasbro's insane marketing strategy for joe has become something so frustrating that i just have to laugh it off.
renegades ran from nov of 2010 to july of 2011.....but renegades figures didn't start turning up in stores until early oct 2011?!?! every retail location i've been to has either no figures or one row of pegs crammed packed with renegades figures and ONLY renegades figures (accept for that one store that has that lonely arctic detro still hanging around) and that's where they'll sit collecting dust until they all get pulled for movie toys.....which will probably be 4 or 5 rows of pegs like green lantern and thor toys that are still clogging up pegs.
it would have made more sense to release the renegades line for christmas of 2010 and continued the cartoon for at least a second season. then we could've been near the end of the second season of renegades just in time for the film to come out. all the while releasing figures alongside of the cartoon....

Okay, I had not seen this before.
It would have been interesting if Hasbro had done repaints like this.

I still cringe when i hear that Jay-z line.

Yeah cause we all know that Jay-Z is synonymous with G.I. Joe. I really don't see how anybody can form an opinion on ROC or GI Joe 2 from a 30-45 second movie trailer, seriously?
Most of the opinion formed about ROC and GI Joe 2 are based upon some people thinking ROC sucked and GI Joe 2 HAS to be better since the first was so bad.
For me personally, I saw nothing different in the trailer that tells me how good/bad the movie will be especially compared to the ROC Super Bowl trailer 2 years ago.

I thought MGM was gonna back this one? So I guess Paramount gonna back up sequel.
kennywr22:
wow! really? Now im not gonna say i thought the roc trailer sucked, but this new trailer with the 2 minute one we saw is so much more gi joe than roc ever was.I mean we see cc as he should look, firefly, roadblock, more down to earth military fighting with a bunch of great looking ninja fighting( red ninjas, jinx, etc..) come on, retaliation looks so much more like joe.
My group was excited for me and I may have talked a buddy and his 10 yr old into going to the movie with me so that's a win in my book.
cardensb:
Everyone at my party was pretty excited when it played.
One guy said, "I hope Ripcord is in it" (I hope not)

See that line kinda sums it up pretty well. The non collecting world will look at this as a sequel no matter what. So if they thought RoC was terrible then they won't say ” this looks so much better! I need to see it now!” They will say ” the last one looked good enough to see and look how that turned out”. Point being if you have no ties to a franchise and the first movie sucks, why would you even think about watching the sequel?
