Shin Densetsu:
Variety has confirmed that amongst other high-profile movie trailers such as the one for Transformers:Revenge of the Fallen, the trailer for G.I. Joe:Rise of Cobra will also premiere during the SUPER BOWL! February 1st marks the first day that we will finally get a clear glimpse of this movie in action!
rockstarfrank:
I'm still hoping for a miracle...I would love to see this movie turn out to be good
rob0213:
Well, here we go! Finally, a trailer.

**crosses fingers***
rockstarfrank:
I guess I will indeed be watching the Superbowl this year.
Shin Densetsu:
I hope we see the Night Raven, Sharc, gunships, PIT, & Storm Shadow fighting Snake Eyes! Also I hope this trailer is long enough that it gives us a good idea of what to expect.
rob0213:
I'd really like to see Zartan and Destro, but from what I hear, we will not. But here's hoping for a shot of a Night Raven!!
Money-B:
Nice. I will have it on my DVR.
I have to record the Super Bowl so that my wife can fast forward through the football and watch the commercials.
I know that sounds crazy, but she does it every year.

Not so crazy. I know a lot of people that do that. When i tell them I watch it for the game, they look at me like....."really?". It's pretty funny.
Agent-GHQ:
Cheers to the anticipations!
B.A.T.:
I'll catch the trailer on youtube. I despise football.
NeoMikomi:
I can imagine it now... the day after the super bowl people talking smack about how bad that g.i. joe movie looks.

Heck, they do it now, and we haven't seen a trailer........

I just hope it isn't too embarrasing.

Haha. You watch the day after the Superbowl everybody is going to have to hide all their G.I. Joe stuff. LOL. *just joking*

Woohoo! This is it! I'm positive that we will be able to tell how good the movie is going to be by the trailer alone because we will be able to see what kind of production value this movie has. *crosses fingers*
A.V.A.C.:
wow, this will be interresting. what a great plug for hasbro. the car companies aren't coming thru on advertizing and they stepped in? what a test, for both of the films, i'm looking foward to this!
rob0213:
Anyone know if we are gonna see a TF trailer too? That would rock!
MeLikeJinx:
Hmmm... aren't commercials for the Super Bowl like 2 million dollars a minute? Maybe they should have saved that money for the actually movie. LOL.

Yup. That's what the first post said.
rob0213:
*****goes back and reads the first post******

Whoops!! Uh, cool!?!!
Shane Haven:
Oh, cool! I didn't know this. Ah man I am stoked for it now. My team had already been eliminated so I was basically just going to watch for the commercials but now I can't wait for this trailer!
kneroh:
Well I wasn't going to watch... but now that this on... j/k
Wylde Weezle:
This will be a real trailer? I hope it will actually show stuff and NOT be like the teaser Transformers one that took place on Mars [and showed nothing but a silhouette of a ticked off Decepticon].
jayeyejoo:
good!

What would be new? That's all that is ever said on this site is how bad it's gonna suck.

No, try $3million for a 30 second spot. http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssT...44484220080506

So yeah, it's gonna be a serious teaser with nothing shown whatsoever.

Something like..

"They are the good guys.....
These are the bad guys....

Soon, they will battle it out.....

No matter who loses, they get to console themselves knowing there was something else that sucked even worse that day to take their minds off of it.
Steel Brigade:
Thanks for the confirmation!!
Warrant Officer Flint:
Lets hope so.
crock master:
that transformers movie sounds too much like the revenge of cobra. so i guess its gonna bomb because it is coming out the same time at transgenders the movie part 2
Freedom:
You mean the guy who said he had a VERY reliable inside source that said the movie sucks so hard that they're not even going to release it now was *gasp* wrong?

Death of teh line!!
Death of teh board!!
Death of teh Super Bowl!!
Death of teh world!!

Uh...cool?
WVMojo:
So basically as soon as that trailer aires, there is going to be a shit-ton of "i told you so" on here, one way or the other.

Hopefully it won't dissapoint.
General Hawk:
Yeah, I think I'm going to quit the internet after the trailer hits, simply to avoid one side or the other ranting and raving about how they were "right" and everyone else was "wrong" about their opinions...

I've said all along, I just want to see footage to judge for myself. If the trailer blows I'll proudly say so, I'm just not looking forward to the widespread nerd anger on both sides of the fence afterwards.

machiwoomiapoo:
WHAT'S UP!!!!!
I just hope it's online too. I haven't had cable for three years. Everything is on the internet anyway.
jaxscorpio:
Blah who cares. It's not like a trailer is going to suddenly change my mind about the things I hate about the movie. As far as I am concerned, September cannot get here fast enough. At least then we'll be beyond this movie crap and may eventually see classics hit the shelves again.
crock master:
this is gonna be the 2009 version of the 80s version of masters of the universe
VIPER 48:
Thanks for the info Shin. I will definitely keep a lookout for the trailer during the game...
Ixz72:
I look forward to it. I am one of those guys that if I don't care about the teams playing in the Super Bowl, I just watch the commercials. I usually look forward to the Budweiser ones. This time I will definitely watch out for those two trailers. Didn't they debut the Dark Knight's trailer during last year's Super Bowl? And that God awful "Don't Mess with the Zohan"...ughhh!!!

Unless it is the best trailer ever, it won't have a significant effect in the Joe community. The haters will still insist the movie will suck. The optimists will say it proves the movie will rock. The rest of us will still wait and see the movie in its entirety before passing judgement. Nobody likes to be wrong.

I'm sure it's pretty much the same deal at the Transformers sites, and the Star Trek sites, and Batman, Spiderman, Hulk, X-Men and every other fanboy forum. Some people refuse to admit they are wrong no matter how the evidence is stacked against them.

I still look forward to the trailers, for both movies. What's this football I am hearing about? Is that one of those new fangled sports like Slamball?

LOL G.I.J.O.E. will be the Zohan of 2009. I love it. It even comes with it's own lame comedian.

I think its funny that on the front page it says: "Mark the date folks"

I mean, I already did. Its the Superbowl.

I gotta believe you are probably right on with your prediction of the trailer content.

It would be funny that the trailer would only show the Title moving around the screen, with the narrator stating when's the movie's coming. Or only show Snake Eyes moving around in the hallway and then at the end of the hallway, there's the movie's release date. LOL!! Seriously, I hope this movie rocks but I wouldn't bet on it. I'm confident the TFII trailer will blow this one away. I hope I'm wrong.
rob0213:
BTW, thanks fo the info, Shin.

No matter what we see, there will be people who are unhappy. February 2nd will be very interesting, indeed.

That's just fantastic. No actual footage of the movie will change your mind about how terrible it is.
gunslingercbr:
Will I be entertained by the movie? certainly. will anyone who is indifferent about G.I. Joe be entertained? probably not. that's what happens when you rush a first draft into production and think throwing money at it will make up for what the story telling actually lacks.

but what is most damning is that many a bad movie have been able to assemble a great trailer that gets audiences interested in the movie, yet the footage (and thus the actual action and story telling from the movie) for G.I. Joe are so bad that there isn't any substance whatsoever to make the movie look good for 90 seconds. if audiences are interested, they'll go to the theatre regardless of any review because they have to see for themselves. that interest is usually generated by the idea of the movie.

Transformers isn't a good movie, but the idea gave audiences something they had never seen in live-action before, so they wanted to see, reviews damned. I think a movie like Cloverfield is the same. awful movie, awful reviews, but one trailer made people have to see it.

G.I. Joe does not have that benefit. no matter what you do with it, the idea of a good military team versus a terrorist army has been seen many times before, so there isn't anything inherent in the concept that would generate the kind of interest Transformers did. because of that, G.I. Joe had to actually make a really good movie. that doesn't mean sticking to the original 80's version, because you could replace all the character differences in this movie with their 80's presentations and the flaws in the actual story and exposition would still remain, so while the 80's purists will certainly dance on the grave of the movie proclaiming their narrow view of G.I. Joe is the reason the movie failed, the truth will actually be much different.

the biggest problem with this movie is that Hasbro and Paramount believed that nostalgia and special effects alone sold Transformers and would thus sell this movie, but Transformers captured audiences for many other reasons that G.I. Joe lacks.
General Hawk:
I couldn't have said it better, gunslinger, and that's where my fear lies. Regardless of whether or not Transformers was a good film, it was still HUGE SCARY EFFIN' ROBOTS so people would flock to the theaters to see that. It's almost always a curiosity factor.

But, at it's core, G.I. Joe is basically good vs. evil, one team of solders versus another, so unless they add some really new and interesting elements, it'll be tough to recoup that humongous 150 million dollar budget. I've been thinking that maybe they would showcase some of the "future tech" and hope to cash in on that, but regardless, I'm afraid if the trailer isn't really, REALLY good, we may be looking at a long August.

None of that changes the fact that I'll withhold all judgement until I actually SEE some footage, but it's something that has been on my mind.

Troynos:
Well, this does tell us that the studio has faith in this movie being a blockbuster. If they didn't think it would be a big movie they wouldn't do it during the Super Bowl.

Right. Very right.

Probably at least half, if not more, of the people that went and saw Transformers really didn't care (or didn't know) about the long history of the franchise (with the toys and the comics).

Ask them about Beast Wars and they'd give you a blank look. Ask 'em which is their favorite, G1 or G2, and they go "huh"?

They went to see the movie because IT'S FRIGGING GIANT ROBOTS THAT CAN TRANSFORM INTO CARS!! HOW COOL IS THAT!!

G.I.Joe has to be a movie that has aspects that will grab the attention of the average person who has never heard of G.I. Joe and Cobra. They can't follow the established mythos, it wouldn't appeal to most people and wouldn't generate a big movie (people have seen the good soldiers vs. bad soldiers too many times). There has to be something that would make it stand out more.

I'm sorry, as cool as we think the Joe vs. Cobra concept is, it's a very generic military one.

They could just as easily have made a CORPS! vs Marauders movie and gotten the same reaction.

So they're hoping the changes will make this movie stand out from the typical soldier movie and get more viewers that aren't just seeing it because it says "G.I. Joe".

and a silly one. I mean, it has ninjas, robots, lasers, jet packs, disguise artists who genetically morph their features, etc.

now, I don't mind the silliness because I am comfortable with the fact that it is a toy, a toy aimed at children, and a toy I liked as a child (the reason why I liked it as a child is because it appealed to me as a child, it didn't attempt to be an "adult" story or toy -- and dealing with violence or death does not make it mature, it simply deals with mature elements within the silly environment). I have no delusions that the toy should mature as I did so I don't feel embarrassed collecting toys, and then attempt to project maturity onto the silliness to pretend it isn't what it is to again feel better about myself.

the problem is the movie adheres to that silliness, not that the silliness of the movie betrays the G.I. Joe mythos. for the movie to appeal to an audience that isn't children, it had to take itself a little more seriously, which the movie (as far as the script I read) lacks. Joes with strength enhancing armor is a very cool idea. Joes chasing a car on foot through Paris is silly beyond words and will probably look it. I'm not sure, even if the special effects for it are great, that it will create the same wow factor with an audience the same way seeing a "live-action" transforming robot will, even if he is talking hip-hop or "lubricating" a human, both of which are equally silly but had the benefit of being something that simply wasn't seen before.
