CrimsonGuard101:
I had to have this as soon as I saw the bad boy up on Target's Website. Price tag 54.99 + tax + shipping less $5.00 online Target.com coupon = $62.35.

To start with, the price was pretty hefty but that was expected given the inflation with most ROC stuff and I bit on it in the event it stays as an online Target Exclusive (website currently indicates online only not in stores so we will see how that plays out).

I will break this down since there are several components of this really cool vehicle. Those that have had one will not find much new here except the stickers, color, logos and Rampage (aka Heavy Metal).

The main body of this APC is larger than most vehicles I have purchased since the 25th line came out. It is also pretty wide (approx. 2 cobra gunships in width) and it could easily blow over a HISS tank. It is a hefty toy and would handle a lot of wear and tear well. Lots of places to put figures, 2 up front in gunner and driver seats, 2 figures can stand on pegs behind each of the main armored doors on the left and right, and a rear gunner under the rear armored hatch. The rear hatch opens in 2 places the main hatch and a larger latched roof under it to again easier access to the seat in that area. There is also a second rear hatch that gives access to 3 more internal seats opposite the rear gunner hatches. The main body is bristling with weaponry from 2 large 3 rack missile pods, 1 large spring loaded Gatling gun on the rear, front mounted 2 barrel machinegun for gunners seat, and a twin barreled heavy machine gun with hand controls on the rear. These weapons are interchangeable in most of the stand offs all over the vehicle (6 on the main body) and they can also be placed on the helo/jet vehicle. The docking mid section for the helo/jet lowers when the helo is pressed down onto it and a small button on the rear of the vehicle allows for it to pop up into launch position. Nice armor plating, detailed wheels, detailed lights, and intimidating looks make this APC a must have for your battlefield.

The helo/jet vehicle is also very nice. It is roughly the same size as the ROC Cobra gunship. There is a second seat right behind the front seat. The wings fold up when it is docked back on the main APC. It has 4 connection points to connect various weapons systems from the main APC if you choose which is pretty cool. I think it really looks somewhat similar to Switchblade, the helicopter/jet Myles Mayhem fly in M.A.S.K.

The vehicle has a simple strait forward sticker sheet with the standard ROC stickers and logos. At first I did not think it had any till I found them stuck inside the main part of the box. I had not applied them to the vehicle as of taking the pics as I just found them in the box afterwards :(

Rampage is a terrific figure (albeit an easy kit bash of existing parts). If you don't feel like making him yourself then here he is. I was always a huge fan of this figure and am glad to have him but wish he had his Mauler. He should have been in the standard ROC camo scheme and his namesake would fit better (since he looks way to much like an ARAH Heavy Metal). He has a vest from Wild Bill, helmet from (nicely detailed like the vintage Heavy Metal) with a mic attached of course yayay no more lost mics haha, Hawk's belt/holster, a sparkly tinted Berretta pistol, and 2 ammo clips for his Beachhead sub machinegun.

The box art is really cool to if you’re into keeping boxes. I have provided some shots of the back and front and side. My box was not treated well and there is a large crease down the left side of it so the picture may not look that great as a result.

It has 7 neon missiles, 1 for the rear Gatling gun which is spring activated but is not overtly so and does not detract from the weapon as much as the spring fired weapons with the single carded figures. The other 6 are for the 2 missile pods. These are not spring loaded and are more a "flick with your finger" firing action. The vehicle looks fine without them in place or if you’re so inclined black or gun metal silver/grey will fix them up great.

Overall I would give it an 8 out of 10 due to price, color scheme and Neon colored missiles (I hoped we were passed that in the 90s) and no ROC figure (which is OK since we did get a Heavy Metal!) It was a great addition to my collection as I am sure it will be to any of you who never got one of these vehicles from the past. I really like it am glad I ordered one.

    Enjoy!
dawg99:
awesome thanx for the pics can't wait to get one .. is love my dtc version.. i wish they would ship to canada i would buy one right now..
tomjefferson101:
I would love to have that Heavy Metal to drive my 1:18 M1A1.
SNAKE EYES:
Nice pics and review. I wonder when these will hit the shelves at Target.
Mandingo Rex:
See, now that's how you do a decent kitbash, Hasbro.

I'm not being facetious, it's a great effort at a classic figure. The parts work really well, even the Mutt head. The worst part are the legs, I'll have to swap those out if I get him, but they're hardly worth griping about. The rest is really smart parts usage. I'll just need to do a dirt-wash on his face and maybe switch the legs, and I'd be really happy with him.

I don't want the vehicle one bit, and won't buy it just to get the figure, so I'll have to see if I can get him online at some point for less than $20.
Shin-Gouki:
As much as I want that Heavy Metal I can't justify $55 for a vehicle that was $15 at TRU just a couple of years ago.
CrimsonGuard101:
$55 was easier to stomach than $99 for Hawk which I want but have absoltuley no need of the Pitt :( But I think there will be enough parts with the carded Hawk coming and various other bodies to build one less than $20 without having to paint I hope.

Thinking Indiana Jones Coat+ Arms, either Shipwrecks reactive armor body + legs and carded ROC Hawks head, or Using the non-coat body of hawk with the indiana jones jackets and sleeeves (will brown vs. black but Hawks orignal coat was brown anyway).

But in either figures case that is massive expense for either of these 2 cool figures :(
Freedom:
That blue doesn't look as bad in these pics as it did in the original promo pic.

    Thanks for the review!
brock Samson:
These will be on clearance in stores soon enough. Just be Patient!
Troynos:
    I want it.
CrimsonGuard101:
Yeah its grey blue is definetly a darker shade then what is on the box art.
COBRACOLLECTOR:
wow that figure is really nice
Sr.:
    Hi,
I have the old version of the rhino. I'm just wondering is there any difference aside from the figurethat came with it? any size difference, measurements?
CrimsonGuard101:
I never owned one prior to this one, if I had to guess it is the exact same size, it looks to be about the same as the pictures of the old ones on yojoe.com (when I compared it to a HISS), dunno why that would get changed. The accessories and stuff look the same. Only differences are color scheme, stickers, ROC logos, Box art and the Figure.
jaimanstone:
    CG101,

I am somewhat baffled, aren't you the one that was advocating never giving money to Hasbro because all ROC merchandise is "crap" and Roc will "bomb" and "suck?" I thought you wanted everyone to buy only from the Chinese sellers who obtain Hasbro product illegally?

Just baffled that you actually sent money to Hasbro.

Edit: Look, not trying to start a flame war, we've been through that already, just curious as you were so passionate in your dislike of ROC and anything about it.
gilborrego:
Thanks for the review! I won't buy one because of the price but the Heavy Metal is pretty cool! I like the helicopter so much more than the cobra gunship (mostly becuase it actually has blades and looks like it can fly).
Syn3sthesia:
    I need it!!!!

    Thanks for the review.

Agreed. That's a truly awesome toy, but given how nearly every exclusive they've had so far has eventually gone to clearance in fairly plentiful supply, there's no reason to rush out the door just yet.

    Good review.
COL Abernathy:
I can't wait for this one!
coola784:
i want one, great review, the fig is awesome, 55 is a steep price though.
xhairs:
great review ill stick with the DTC one. they did do a killer job with Heavy Metal .
Hicks_Royel:
Got mine in today as well. I gotta say I enjoy the colors aside from the neon green missiles. But yeah, not a bad vehicle and since jets are already 25 bucks, this was to be expected.

    And Heavy Metal rocks.

I'll tell you what was lame though, the brief case in with Heavy Metal. Just like Ralphie and his Little Orphan Annie Decoder Ring.
Jinx723:
    $55.00 is too much.
Since my DTC RHINO has about two inches of dust on it, I'm just gonna give it a major cleaning. Then I'm gonna give it a try as far as making a "Heavy Metal" custom. It would be nice if someone cast the helmet though.
Gyre-Viper:
i bought 3. mostly so i could help tankers out with getting heavy metals. (yes they are all spoken for)
thanks for the pics. i'm excited to get mine (hopefully soon).
Shin Densetsu:
It's one of the best vehicles designed in the last 10 years, of all the "new sculpt' vehicles, it was definitely up there, it was my favorite in the DTC line, I even liked it better than the ROwhich is cool too). In my opinion, it's up there with the Night Attack Chopper.
GI abe444:
Damn its Nice and Heavy Metal kicks A$$ !
Thal J.:
    Sweet, I want it.
RolandofGilead:
I just want the Heavy Metal. Anyone planning on army building these (and I know you're out there ) please sell/trade me your extra figure.
megatron103:
i love the rhino the blue isn't as offensive as in the pics i would to tigerforce paint it
chans formers:
that looks neato.the colors really remind me of the vintage "sgt.slaughters mauraders" colors on the old vehicles.can thisd thing link up in anyway to the r.o.c.c.???
flywheels:
I hardly buy Joe vehicles...so I'll wait and see if it goes on clearance.
erikyurk:
I have to admit, that's pretty freakin cool. I'm ending up buying more of the ROC stuff than I thought. Even the novel was better than I expected. Yo Joe!
Shin Densetsu:
    The Rampage figure looks great
WJWitherspoon:
Other than the chopper, this vehicle reminds me of the APC from Aliens. I almost ordered it yesterday but decided to wait until someone reviewed it here. It looks like a really fun vehicle, but the price is still steep.
The Mad Bubbler:
I have always thought that the Rhino was a sharp vehicle, and the Rampage figure looks great; I just wish there wasn't such a high price tag for something that involved no new tooling on Hasbro's part. For $39.99, I'd snag one. I'll have to think about it at this price.
DaViper:
I'll pick one up if it ever goes on clearance. I really dig the color scheme...
angelofdeath69:
I would like to get Heavy metal loose somewhere, but the rihno it's great too.
steve2477:
Cool. I need that Heavy Metal, he looks great. Hasbro seems to be sneaking those 25th/modern figures into the ROC released toys after all.
tonkateddybear:
my brother-in-law was cool enough to get this for me. my collection is winding down, and this looked like a heck of a way to slow things down. i loved heavy metal back in '85, and that's what i'll call this guy. i'm VERY partial to the 25th style (mostly because i grew up with the original joe's), and this seemed like a cool thing.

also, pretty sure this is an internet order only thing for target... for the time being.
artiepants:
i've never been that enamored with this thing, but dang that is some sharp box art.
Highway:
So that's what R.H.I.N.O. stands for eh? I don't find it that Offensive Those tight pants on Heavy Metal on the other hand...

Colonel Bludd:
another clearance item. it was $29.99 3-4 years ago. why would anyone pay double for it? just sit back and let it happen.
Kungfuguy:
This would look so cool as the next Batmobile as it was destroyed in the last movie. Since this was inspired by the Aliens APC and it was inspired by real life vehicle used to tow airplanes, the next batmobile should be an armored car.
03Mach1:
Awesome looking vehicle. I think I'll actually support Hasbro and buy it BEFORE it goes on clearance. A novel idea, I know. I'd be more than happy to buy a second one if the price were lowered.
Rulz:
great vehicle.. but what I really want is this Heavy Metal figure..

People can be wrong and one can be open minded and chnage your point of view at anytime. I was wrong about the toys for the most part. The movie itself will be a different story as I am still not enamered to rush out and see it and nothing they have shown has helped my position on that. The figures and vehicles have ultra awsome customization posabilties and I always wanted this vehicle to begin with along with getting a Heavy Metal figure with it was the spurring factor.

Trying to undo the hate I did by posting up the stuff I buy I really enjoy, no need to be baffled, it does not really need to be explained nor concearned with. It's just time to move on as ROC comes and goes.
46 Zone:
Nice vehicle. Too expensive though. I like Heavy Metal a lot. I'll wait for him to be available on ebay, or via trade. Heres to dreaming that early next year they release Heavy Metal again, but this time with a re-tooled Mauler tank, in the modern era box.
Blade Raider:
Was think about getting it because I like the colors and it looks like they remold the pegs for 25ths, but $54.99?! Screw that. I paid $25 for the DTC version and while it's a fantastic toy, not worth $55.
Jay West:
What it is already on the site and you have already gotten it? I don't even remember anyone saying it was on the site yet. How did you get it so quickly?
