G.I. Joe Rise Of Cobra Arctic Threat Storm Shadow High Res Images

as2
Newest Toys For You has posted all new images of the Arctic Threat Storm Shadow figure from the G.I. Joe Rise Of Cobra toyline. As an homage to the vintage V2 Storm Shadow from 1988, this figure features familiar camouflage, as well as reused parts from previous Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes figures.

Does this figure sport a Cobra logo because of Storm Shadow's affiliation in the movie, or could it be an homage to the original paint deco planned for the V2 Storm Shadow? Originally, the V2 Storm Shadow figure was meant to have Cobra logos printed on. Also, could a variant be planned, with lighter gray markings and red bandolier to match the package art?

Quite possibly my favorite ROC Storm Shadow figure
topnotch97:
ok. but that's just waaayyyy overboard.... i mean... huh?!?!
CrimsonGuard101:
I really dislike that camo on him, look at his face?? Its a big black upside down "V"...What was wrong with the original? Wouldn't mind to see him in an analog of his current maybe, like black with white "V"s...pass on this one...
Zoltron:
Cookies and cream!
Shin Densetsu:
I think it looks awesome, I wasn't expecting an homage like that, and the V2 is one of my favorite designs.
Gyre-Viper:
he looks like he fell asleep and snake eyes drew all over him with
a sharpie.

charlie chaplin variant.

looks like he tripped and fell in art deco

but i'm not hating i swear. ;P
topnotch97:
it could work... if they (hasbro) did a proper redeco like the time when Stormy joined GI Joe. more camo pattern like.
Foolproof:
Not too sure about this one guys...I think maybe

Thal J.:
I agree with Shin. It is a verry cool fig.
GrapeSoda:
that is just awful.....a blatant repaint (grey on the current SS figure) that is just bad. it looks so awkward and forced. almost like it is a really bad custom.

what made the relative storm shadow so cool in the 80s was that it was a totally different sculpt with all new weapons and a new allegiance....and one that no one expected at the time.

this is like..."hey, you like the trench coat, sneaker wearing stormy? look! here he is with some Vs painted on him like that one figure. but this time his weapons aren't red, they're the same ones that the regular storm shadow comes with....in fact, this is the exact same figure, it just has some random grey Vs painted all over it."

Except for, y'know, anyone who read the comic, where Storm Shadow lasted little a year as a member of Cobra, and almost immediately thereafter started out helping the Joes occasionally.
Zoltron:
Pass.

I wish they would have given us this instead:
Cobra Commander:
I like the look of this one, I'll be buying it.
Ronin Assassin:
That is just fugly
A.C.T.:
Wow, we're getting easier to please.

Thanks. I hate to admit it but I had no idea where the design came from. Didnt even realize that was a V2 look. Now at least it makes sense to me. Still cant say I actually llike it though.
JamesxOnly:
I think its rad. V2 Storm Shadow was always my favorite, so i think its cool that they've incorporated that into the line.
TEAM Z:
[QUOTE=Gyre-Viper;897797]he looks like he fell asleep and snake eyes drew all over him with

Now thats funny!!
Weezus:
not even the most flamboyant rapper would wear that.
crackus:
I'm really a Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow fan... but I think I'll pass on this one
TheLongestDay:
lighter grey markings and a hood wouldve made this figure badass - I was planning on doing a V2 Storm Shadow ROC custom too. :/
Malcolm:
A nia force storm shadow paint job or a lighter grey for the v's would of worked well.

Oh well.
steve2477:
Not really liking this figure.
green_shirt:
To be perfectly honest I really love it. Because when I think of a ninja the image of a chap running around in little white pj's and bathrobe with a boomerang print on it really dose come to mind. Honest it dose. I really don't see the problem folks are having with this. It's brilliant, it really just is.
miscreant:
Arctic Threat?

I knew Cobra was to blame for global warming.

Call in the Eco Warriors!

*runs*
samantha:
I am on the fence with this figure. Is that PP SE jacket cast in white plastic?
cliff secord:
Kinda looks like he duct taped all of SE slashes all quick and dirty like. Weird, but better looking than that other one suggested.
DPrime:
I think I'm passing on this. It's ALMOST a cool repaint, but not quite. It just doesn't really work for me.
Troynos:
This will be a pass. Even as a homage figure, and V2 Storm Shadow was my favorite Storm Shadow, it just doesn't work. The Vs are just too big and stand out too much due to the size.

It's weird looking.
erikyurk:
I think that's the worst SS yet.
Gung.Heaux:
ill pick that figure up....look behind it...and then put it right back down.
M. Aster Karver:
Yep, Samantha, it is.

I told my wife yesterday that if PP SE is that much of a hit and Hasbro gets wind of it, they'll do more and more figs with the trenchcoat.

I dig the figure, but with the camo was gone as well as the Cobra symbol...other than those 2 little changes, the figure would appeal to me a lot more.

That's funny.
LadyDelta:
I think that I had asked my boyfriend to pick that one up for me too...I think it looks nice. You all have to remember that I just recently got into the whole Joe thing so if I like the look then I want it...I don't know anything about repaints or real weapons or anything like that. I just know that I like the look
doc_mccoy:
Crappy repaint...no sale for me. If you want real Arctic Camo, see my Avatar to the left. A few black angular shapes on white isnt snow camo. Matter fact, I hate this one!
(GI)Joe:
he even comes with that awesome rocket launcher!!!!!!

PASS
ooten:
i agree with sum others it would be ok if the v's were lighter, alot lighter similar to the box art how does blck v's blend in the snow???
dragon:
my only complaint about these arctic figures is the camoflouge the arctic is all white if you have black stripes on your uniform you will stand out ninjas like to be invisble not seen oh well this looks better than storm shadow ripped shirt version
Gunzlingr:
I don't care for this one.
HawkHauser:
Not a bad figure, if he didn't have the Cobra logo, that would be awesome, but still a must have for me.
Blade:
im on the fence about this one...i kinda like it and i kinda dont. I think if he had no cobra symbol and such i might be more apt to like it but im just gettin a lil tired of the constant mishmash of joe parts to make "new figures". i would actually like NEW figures not just mishmashed repaints. Especially at the current prices every single figure should be a new gotdang mold.
ecsmith7:
This would have been decent without the V on his face. It would have been good with different parts. It would be worth picking up without the cobra logo and trench coat. Why do they insist on giving SE and SS both trench coats? It kind of works for SE but SS doesn't need this.
Highway:
I quite like this fig, and appreciate the V2 homage. I'm surprised it's so unpopular. I'll have to see it in person first but will probably grab this one. At least it has some paint, the other Stormies are pretty bland in comparison.

That's quite false, actually.

Most "Arctic warfare" training/operations don't exactly take place in the North Pole. There's lots of variation in the terrain due to tundra, rock, dirt, trees, foliage (depending on the season/location), etc. All white stands out more than you think. The stripes may look odd close up, but at a distance they serve to "break up" shapes that are familiar to the human eye and thus stand out - like a person's outline.

The stripes may be a bit oversized - hey, this is a toy after all - but it'd probably work better than you think.

FYI, I wasn't in the Arctic, by any means, but during my winter warfare training we would usually use a white pants/green camo top combo. When you'd stand, your lower body would blend in with the surface and your upper body would blend with the horizon/trees. It worked particularly well at night - because of the extra visibility due to the reflection of the snow, it was better than wearing darker colours.

It's odd, I think that it SHOULD work as a repaint, and I also do appreciate the V2 homage, but for some reason, it just doesn't.
dangle3106:
New to the site guys and gals but I just felt that I had to comment on this one. C'mon, seriously..........he looks like Birdman with that beak on his face. Not a fan of this figure in particular, love SS though!
SteelCity86:
Ill be passing on this one as well. Saw him yesterday on E-bay for sale from China along with 'jungle pursuit' Ripcord, paris pursuit Duke (including a suction cup with yellow handlebars like the PP SS) and some of the 'target exclusive' deluxe figs. All for ridiculous money of course. I luv the 1st 2 SS and SE's that we've got, but this one just doesnt grab me.
Kamakura_Hawaii:
I'm HATING on this upcoming movie BIG TIME after having read the screenplay floating around.

But even I want to get this Storm Shadow figure. I hate the Reloaded-style costume with the sneakers but the urban camo is Version 2 nostalgia that even I can't deny. The original V2 is probably my favorite Storm Shadow since it's from the period of when he finally joined the Joe team.

The original Version 1 will always hold a special place in my heart, though, since I played with that ninja figure for HOURS on end when I first got it.

Childhood awesome.

Kamakura
Supporting the Joe team since 1983

P.S. Does anyone else beside me think it's sad that the comics built Storm Shadow to be an expert archer (while Snake-Eyes was the expert with edged weapons) but we haven't yet seen an ROC figure with a bow & arrows? Or have I just missed seeing it? Sad.
Syn3sthesia:
I'm gonna pass.

Agreed, archery stuff would be cool.
skatezaz:
really dont like it.
