Yep! That's our Grunt!

He's pretty damned funny on the shows i've seen him on...
Van Hammer:
Just searched him up on the good ol' wiki.He looks like he should be in a boyband.
jmc2915:
looks like a d'bag
krooklyn:
I liked him in Party Down. So they are going for a lil' comedy with this casting.
starbuck:
Anyone watch Veronica Mars? Party Down?

I guess not...

He's a great actor....

C'mon guys, not every actor who plays a G.I. Joe character needs to look like some comic book stereotype:

Most soldiers, even the elite ones, look like normal dudes...

Hey SB, I don't think OSOK would like you putting his pic online like that.

He'll never know. Ryan Hansen sounds too similar to Chris Hansen. He'll stay pretty far away from this thread...
Sho Nuff:
Bout time we got some eye candy in this movie...
Topside:
I thought Rock n Roll was the surfer dude?
PrivateShake:
He was stuck playing Douchebags, Bullies and pretty boys for a while until Party Down. I'm glad to see him breaking type. Plus he's a Veronica Mars alum. Incidentally a very cool guy in person.

and that has to do what with what? he's an actor, it is likely he was cast to actually act.

when I watch Donnie Brasco, I'm not confused because Agent Pistone is being played by a timid hippie simply because Johnny Depp isn't a hard as nails guinea in real life.
Life4Dreadnok:
He looks like a wimp. Grunt is not a wimp. Fortunately I'm sure Grunt will get maybe .5 seconds of screen time.
RolandofGilead:
Yay, Grunt is in the movie somewhere. Who gives a damn who's playing him?
CrimsonGuard101:
Why is he being shown in that stupid blue suit? OMG I will not be able to take him seriouzly playing Grunt now...he look sliek a skinny oversized smurf...
Wylde Weezle:
That IMDB pic, he looks like a lot of the 20 year old kids coming into the Army these days. But since he's actually 30, hopefully he's got some decent acting chops outside of comedy. It's a cameo role, so it doesn't bother me any.
fireflyguy:
Never heard of him, never seen anything he's been in. But it's cool that Grunt is being casted. Maybe it'll be another cool figure.
Lody:
What's going to do? Surprise Cobra Troopers that are looking to prey on young girls from over the internet?
M. Aster Karver:
Doesn't scream "Grunt" to me. Too much of a pretty boy.

ROFLMAO... Yeah, that seems to sum up "RETALIATION" so far...Pretty boys on steroids...

As long as it's a BIT part, named, on-screen, no figure involved, I'll be happy with his 15 seconds.

Any more than that, and it's a barbeque...and THAT's a party. Yeah.
M. Aster Karver:
If that's Grunt, here are the other "green shirts"

Jmacq1:
What a shock. Paramount casts a bit part with someone that isn't the reincarnation of Clint Eastwood in his prime, and fanboys bitch. Repeat ad-infinitum.

Clearly none of the people complaining have ever been or met a real soldier, particularly recently. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but the average "grunt" these days looks a hell of a lot more like Ryan Hansen than a young Lee Majors.
M. Aster Karver:
Oh I'm not bitching about it, just guessing how the rest of the cast will look pre-uniform.

I said this from the first movie...I'm in it for the toys. They make great fodder. Only difference this time around is Lady Jaye may be worth keeping together.
TheRealDubya:
I like this dude. He was pretty good on Party Down and Veronica Mars. Once they clean up his hair and get him on costume, he'll look like a soldier.

Why the fuck not? His character is based on a 4 inch piece of plastic. It's not like he's playing Hamlet or Thomas Jefferson.

We need a new Clint Eastwood is that so much to ask? And a new Arnold Schwartzawahtislastname and a new Charelton Heston and Yul Bryner...to many good actors gone and were left with some pretty redculous individuals to choose from...especially for cameo peeps. I woudl rather have Brendon Fraiser again tbh lol...

It is when they don't exist (or at best-case scenario are already committed to other projects). Every successful actor is a product of their time. Right now, the time isn't one that makes stars out of guys that look like worn-out leather. I know the fans would prefer that Hollywood ignore present-day reality and make the movie just like it was the 80's all over again and aimed squarely and only at the 30+ year old man-children (myself included) that still buy their little plastic men, but there's about as good a chance of that happening as monkeys flying out of your butt.

To complain otherwise is pointless and childish.

it was a joke, man. chill out.
Fox:
I have no idea who is but look at him. He's a blonde guy from Southern California. Make him grow a beard and he can play Rock n' Roll.

I am a little worried that they are casting so many Joes. You know some of them are going to die.

Yeah I dont mind em making it new things and using new characters...but they need to really find some quality people and not douchebags lol...I liked the new guys they used on the A-team aside from Nesson, they were good and fit thier parts, much like Chirs Pine and the rest of the new star Trek Crew, they just snapped into thier roles perfectly in an updated way wihtotu taking too much away form what they came from. The Rock serisouly emobodies Roadblock in a super seriousness unlike that the last guy who played Heavy Duty, that the rest of the new joes need to have.

If Tatum would go through boot camp and spend some time with real military personel of the rank he is playing and work with a real liason who can bust his butt into a real Sergeant he already looks the part just needs ot act the part if you catch what I am getting at (others Hate him, I think he could be a good Duke if he had the right motivation and Direction, and watched Duke from Sunbow). Same for this guy (now that they updated his smurf suit look on the front page lol..that was a tad scary looking) who knows, but well see.
Echo7Solo:
you know there are three things that this thread has made abundantly clear.

1 most people who are bitching about this guy have never once seen him act

2 some people can't comprehend the concept of a haircut.

3 some people judge more on looks than on anything else

and you know what, I'll add one more

4 it is more fun to joke and bitch about things than it is to use your brain for something other than an ear spacer.

ok, need to calm down now and take a break...... woosah

UMAN:
Hansen was hilarious in Party Down.

"That's why they call it the Palisades, bro."

For everyone that's bitching about him just being a "face," lemme ask you this: honestly, do you really give a **** about Grunt? He's basically a greenshirt with a codename.

Plus Charlie Bronson, Lee Marvin, James Coburn, John Cassavettes... all those tough old fuckers.

But guess what? We got dudes like that now. We got Statham. We got Vin Diesel. We got Bruce Willis. We got The Rock as The 'Block. Plus there's TONS of tough character actors. How about that old fuck what played Machete? That dude did real time. Michael Madsen did too. Basically most guys that Michael Mann and Quentin Tarantino hang out with are pretty bad ass.

Michael Biehn? Michael Ironside? Total baddasses. Totally still alive.

There's always been a bunch of pretty people on the movie picture making business. And there's also always been a bunch of ugly, mean looking character actors too. But pretty people sell tickets. Thems just the facts.

A lot of those old school tough guys were tough guys because they served in the military. So maybe we'll get some more tough guys come out of these wars were in and become actors.

Good point. Nobody expected that performance out of him.
Wizgillar:
Another one? How many friggan characters are they going to have in this thing. At this rate, each character will be on screen for a total of 3 or 4 minutes of the entire movie. Oh well, it's not like I am expecting much at all from this thing anyway.

Yeah just try and compre him to Tatumns perofmance in ROC vs. Ledgers perofmance in The Dark Knnight...thats what I am saying...total ownage becuase the actor wanted to land it...and so did his director...hindsight is always 20/20. At this spoint both had to land a character and guess who got it right? I'll let the h8terade peanut gallery decide..
shlappyguy:
All these little cameos of name Joe roles has me cautiously optimistic about this flick. One of the biggest missed opportunities in the first movie to get hardcore fans on board would be to have a few background characters be 'name' Joes. They had, like none, just an ocean of extras. So easy to rectify, I'm glad to see that the new filmmakers are doing it.
CrimsonGuard101:
People cameos do nothing for me, kinda pointless unless its a TV show, they could have Betty White cameo for 1hour and I doubt I would even notice...now cameos with hardware like skystrikers, flaggs, mobats in the motor pool, or battelfield shots of ACTUAL joe/cobra related hardware thats a different story...that makes it feel like GI JOE not another disaster movie comedic relif at the improv jumbling of various actors and vintage character name homages..

They used to cram scored of charecters into 22 minute sun bow episodes, and 40 distinct figures into a single comic issue.
cobracobra:
Grunt is not in the SB cartoon, I am pretty sure. Is he in the M comic book? So what historical performance are we comparing this to?

Party down is a amazing show he was hilarious in it. So hopefully he will be hilarious on the big screen.

We dont need anymore comedic relief after wayans failed perfomance...please no more stupid comedy...the Rock has that covered in his own way for us...now if they had Bill Paxton in there for a few F-bombs like in Aliens, were good to go...

I think you are alone there. Remember when an Asian extra was on screen for 2seconds in ROC? That got front paged and it wasn't even Jinx.

well two things. First I'm not talking about Tatumns ROC I'm talking about this new Grunt. At this time we just don't know how it will turn out. Could be good could be bad. As for the H8terade peanut gallery...... you throw enough shit at the wall some of it hit the target.

That's exactly how a Joe movie should be. the biggest failure of ROC was the fact that the G.I. JOE team was just a bunch of identical nameless background characters. nothing about them screamed individual specialists, nevertheless elite.

The Joes aren't just a basic military unit, so all the Joes, even if just in the background, need to be Joe characters that are either identified, can be identified, or at the least have something about them in their uniform that separates them from the others.

of all the asinine criticisms of ROC and this movie, I think this is the most asinine one yet -- criticizing having actual Joe characters in a Joe movie.
sbartek1974:
Pretty neat we'll get to see Grunt. Guess we'll be getting a new Grunt figure too. Didn't expect that one. Man, the news just keeps coming and coming.

I wanna see some more pics of the other characters in uniform and pics of the artillary.

Grunt did appear in the cartoon, the "Worlds Without End" 2-prt episode.
