HISS Tank boards member Troynos has posted all new images of the canceled Desert Battle Heavy Duty from the GI Joe Pursuit of Cobra line. This figure is a repaint of the Reactive Impact Armor Heavy Duty from the GI Joe Rise of Cobra line with a new vest and missle launcher, which plugs onto the vest.
This figure also features the Rise of Cobra logo. Perhaps we will see the new vest and launcher eventually on a future release, possibly on a different character altogether and with the Pursuit of Cobra printed on instead. Click the title bar to see what “could have been”!

I wasn't a fan of the RoC Heavy Duty figure and when this one showed up at the '09 Joecon as part of the earlier announced PoC line, I wasn't that thrilled.
Then it showed up on EBay when we found out they were going to cancel the actor's likenesses and that this particular figure wasn't part of the initial offerings of PoC.
We've seen some of the canceled stuff show up in other ways (Desert Battle Ripcord becomes Skydive for example). But hadn't seen this one and I can't see it being reused except for the vest.
The basic figure is a Reactive Impact Armor Heavy Duty (same gear) with gold highlights to his armor and a protective vest.
What made me want this figure? It has the RoC logo, which we know is no longer going to be used, and alot of PoC figures have been showing up on EBay with the RoC logo.
I was able to get this guy at a good price so I picked him up as part of my collection.
The vest is pretty cool and would make a good vest for an EOD type figure, and works for Heavy Duty. I really like the gold paint on the RI Armor.
He came with the same gear as most HD figures, except there was no sidearm for his holster.

On top of the vest are what appears an area for two pegs to go into. My first thought that there was something missing, maybe a helmet or something would have come with the figure. Or the vest was originally meant for Charbroil or something.
Then I noticed the bottom of the spring loaded launcher.
Yep, the launcher "attachs" to HD's shoulder so it can be supported easily. And without the blue "missile" it actually looks pretty cool.

fantastic snag.
it'll be a while before most people appreciate the unreleased test shots and variants etc from ROC. so if this thread starts filling up with the usual remarks ... just ignore em.
what you've got is 3 and 3/4 inches of GI JOE history.
plain and simple.
and if you actually enjoy it... the better!!

Anyone know where/how this was to be released?

The vest and launcher combo is actually pretty cool.

And yeah Gyre, that's the main reason I picked this guy up and have been trying to snag anything with the RoC logo on it. It's a piece of Joe history.
And it's a pretty cool Heavy Duty. The vest makes a world of difference.

This is another one tat I really had my eye on. I like the first version of RIA HD, so this one looked cool too with the new vest. The attachable launcher makes it even better to me! Hopefully I'll be able to find one at a decent price.
