| G.I. Joe Past And Present Figure Pack Mock Ups And Unreleased Rise Of Cobra 12in Figures | | Posted on 12-28-2009 at 05:59 PM by Shin Densetsu | Social Bookmarks | RSS Feeds | HISS Tank boards member Gyre-Viper has come through with the 1st images of upcoming G.I. Joe Past and Present figure packs! Hasbro had 1st planned these types of offerings back during the "new sculpt" era of 2002-2006, however it wasn't until now that this idea started reaching fruition. The Past and Present figure mockup sets shown are- Duke
- Storm Shadow
- Snake Eyes
- Destro
Each set pairs each character's movie incarnation with an incarnation from the classic G.I. Joe A Real American Hero series. Bear in mind, these are just mockups and the final production pieces may differ(albeit not by much judging from what we've seen here aside from packaging). Will the Past and Present sets continue on with G.I. Joe Resolute, figures, or perhaps even Resolute vehicles?
Also shown are prototypes of currently unreleased 12" G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra figures. Shown are:- Storm Shadow in final battle attire
- Duke
- Snake Eyes with web gear
- Cobra Viper Commando repaint
Since the 12" figures from Rise of Cobra are said by Hasbro to not be carrying over in 2010, these figures might possibly be exclusives. Click on the title bar to see more!

these are only factory mock-up boxes. No art. I wish I had finished ones to show you. Hopefully since these have surfaced ... that means the finished ones will appear soon. the figures are test shots.
yes these are legit. I expect at least one comment from someone
who doesn't understand the process to say something uneducated
hehehehehheheh.
also pictured are mock ups of some 2010 12" dolls (bare chested somebody scratched me Storm Shadow, Duke in camo, and a nano viper. these are on playdoh stock... for mock ups they just use what they have lying around... I don't collect 12" figures
but I do collect mock ups and how can you pass up Storm Shadow on a Playdoh card back. hahahahaha).
for anyone unfamiliar with the mock up process mock-up - Definition from the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary
... mock ups are basically a way for companies/distributors/etc to see what a product will look like (before spending money on finished art etc in case something doesn't look right).
I imagine the finished art will look just like the past and present rockslide set art etc. again, I wish I had finished versions to show you. these will have to do until then.
these are gonna controversial for a few reasons.
most notably ARAH purists seeing their old friends on shelves again...but packaged with the new school ROC versions. Also... there's nothing new in these sets... LITERALLY. But a lot of people will love these, especially for their kids... and especially to bridge the gap between the past...
and the present (sorry couldn't resist).
enjoy. (or don't). here's the pics. RolandofGilead: Forgive my ignorance, but are those O-ring RAH figures alongside the RoC ones?
Nevermind, the closeups answered my question. driftwood: WoW !!!!!!
How do you find this cool stuff? Gyre-Viper: Quote:

heheheh. sorry I should have warned it was pic heavy. Shin-Gouki: Bummer, I was hoping for vehicles. FireFly201: Another failed attempt to lure the 80s kid! Gyre-Viper: Quote:

don't hold your breath. keep in mind these are target exclusives.
and keep in mind that smaller vehicles are really their only option.
unless we get that Fury next to a Rage or something like that.
hehehehheh. maybe this is where those protos I have of cancelled
things will go... maybe we'll get twins w/ ferret vs scrap iron w/ snake trax etc. snake armor w/ mindbender vs serpent armor w/ neo viper. mister-x: neat... does ROC destros mask come off? Steevy Maximus: On the plus side, I like the use of the remolded comic pack heads, and in what appears to be some recasted original accessories.
But my biggest gripe is that for all the recasting, they STILL have not replaced Duke's arms! T.F.Joe: AWESOME!!!
When do these come out? Batmandk02: I don't think that is Snake Eyes original 1982 head on that one figure. And No Destro Arm Rockets?? COME ON!! The only one that looks original is Storm Shadow!
Thanks Gyre-Viper! You have continued your brilliant search and find once again to keep our hopes alive!!! C.I.A.D.: Quote:

Yep kneroh: My favorite part is that I look get first look your facebook page! kingphilbert: Cool, and not to complain, but I was reading the Would You Buy Re Issues thread and thought to myself, Hasbro never gets re-issues right. I mean, why the Commando SE and not the Ninja SE. That's the one we all want and he has never been re-issued. We get the Commando with the wrong accessories and in the wrong colors. IDK... IDK... | A lot of molds have been lost, worn out, sold or destroyed. Probably why we didn't get the Snake Eyes v2 back in '97 also. (Sadly, this means no Then/Now Flash). I'm just hoping for Storm Shadow to have his original accessories like he did in the '97 3-pack.
I do like that they are using the new sculpted heads from a few years ago for the o-ring figures. But they really should replace those Duke arms.
For the final product, I hope the RoC figures are colored different somehow from the single card release. Otherwise, these will sit on shelves and more won't be likely. Gyre-Viper: Quote:

Yep | ah cool. I just figured (no pun intended) that being target exclusives...
if the first vehicle set say didn't live up to retail expectations... they (target) might be prone to saying 'yeah no more vehicles.'
as opposed to if the item was wide spread and had more of a fighting
chance in every store than just in one. (if that makes sense).
hey at least I was smart enough to figure out the snake trax thingy.
hahahahahaha. Quote:

POC Zartan vs RAH Zartan...
that would be AMAZING. Moses: No surprises - another Duke, Snake Eyes, Destro and Storm Shadow. Where is Cobra Commander? arashikage tat: that looks awesome! Very excited about the vintage SS and SE..that Duke doesn't look too bad either Gyre-Viper: i had to snag the multiples since some had accessories and others didn't.
I didn't want to chance missing somethin for pics etc. Shin Densetsu: Quote:

Thanks Gyre-Viper! You have continued your brilliant search and find once again to keep our hopes alive!!! | ...but Storm Shadow is packed with wave 1 ROC Storm Shadow...and IMHO the other movie Storm Shadows are better. I think what would have been awesome would be RESOLUTE STORM SHADOW with 1984 O ring Storm Shadow
FOR THE WIN vadersquest: I really like the SE and Storm Shadow packs. I do not care for Destro and Duke I am on the fence with. Overall I am pleased and I cannot wait to see more! miragearmor: I wonder how consumers would react if they saw a Now/Then Ripcord 2-pack. Gyre-Viper: Quote:

FOR THE WIN | now you're just talking crazy. what fans want are two figures they already own, side-by-side, in one pack. DUH.
:P Quote:

for destro. hehehehheh... ... ... . ... Gyre-Viper: Quote:

Deathsynger: I don't see the big deal about these... Maybe if your a ARAH collector. But the ROC figures are some of the worst. Big headed Duke, Pudgy Destro, Two-lip Snake-Eyes, and Pin-head Storm Shadow, straight out of Dick Tracy. botticus: Quote:

Some are still mildly interesting if the price is right since I never had a vintage Destro, and possibly Storm Shadow (not sure if I've picked up a later release or not). Duke and SE are already taken care of though. Gyre-Viper: Quote:

cuz like I said... not only are you not getting anything new...
you're also getting something old. hahahahaha.
but I can see the appeal to an extent or for future collectors.
just not for myself. I do enjoy the mock ups though.
I do love the toy making process. COBRACOLLECTOR: Gyre i think ur down with Hasbro or you have an underground tunnel to China under your house Gyre-Viper: Quote:

but apparently no American hasbro employees want my money.
only the ones in China.
you can bet I'll be wearing my best fish nets at joecon for all the Hasbro dudes. Troynos: Yeah, these sets don't really interest me. I might get the Duke and SE ones depending on what the final boxes look like. Gyre-Viper: Quote:

some 25th ... I'd gladly scoop them up.
but we could probably never get a past and present firefly because
that was a TRU exclusive... and a p&p zartan wouldn't make sense
at all really unless it was the "POC" version. Scoop: I love the concept of the Past and Present sets, but I'm a bit upset about how we are getting them.
We all know that many of the molds for the ARAH figures have been destroyed, so some parts of the figures will not be like the originals, such as Duke's arms for example. I wish this was not the case though.
I also don't like the fact that they are coming with ROC figures, even though I know they are the "present" figures.
In a perfect world I would have liked hasbro to release these sets instead of the Hall Of Heroes. That way we would have gotten the 25th figures paired with their original ARAH conterparts. These would have looked great together. Zoltron: Passing on these.
I wish they would have put 25th figures in those. That would have been cool. Waxy: I should have known they would be the comic pack molds from 2005 in these things. *sigh*
As it is, I think I'll still get the Storm Shadow set, so I can replace my yellowed vintage version with a nice minty white one. The rest, I have no need or desire for, unless the Duke set comes with all his original accessories. Gyre-Viper: Quote:

fingers crossed that they are starting with these because ROC is what is on the shelves. maybe they'll back track to 25th after this. fireflyguy: Those past and present sets are cool, but I would have preferred 25th/ME figs as opposed to movie figs. I'm not gonna get bent out of shape about it, though. Steel Brigade: Some great leaks here... looks like we are getting 3 new 12" figs & the Then & Now's consists of
TARGET EXCLUSIVE THEN & NOW 2 FIGURE SETS Duke '05 comic pack/Duke (ROC reactive impact armor)
Destro '05 comic pack/Destro (ROC weapons supplier ~vac metal head)
Snake Eyes '05 comic pack/Snake Eyes (ROC ninja commado)
Storm Shadow '05 comic pack/Storm Shadow (ROC ninja mercenary)
Thanks for the hot news Gyre!! I'm a fan of the comic pack figures from '05 so I'm looking forward to these... xhairs: nice, to bad they are roc figs. Shin Densetsu: Quote:

Thanks for the hot news Gyre!! I'm a fan of the comic pack figures from '05 so I'm looking forward to these... | The comic packs were great in concept but the figure quality was lacking, my Storm Shadow even had a broken foot under the stress of the footpeg on the stand! However the Past and Present Snowjob turned out quite well and sturdy, so hopefully these reissued 3-3/4" figures turn out good as well. | All times are GMT -4. The time now is 02:39 PM. | |
