It would seem that David Murray the original actor picked to play James McCullen AKA Destro is still indeed set to play Destro in the G.I. Joe Movie "Rise Of Cobra". David Murray will play James McCullen The 1st (The Original Arms Dealer)! He will play a huge part in the telling of the Destro Clan back story and how the "Family" came to don the Menacing Mask.

Not only will you see a Modern Destro Mask but you also get to see the Original Old School Mask and get to watch the back story. DVD: So...what does this mean for Christopher Ecc...yeah, him. Is McCullen the First an ancestor? I'm a little confused. DESTRO: David Murray plays the very first McCullen to wear the Destro Mask.
Chris Eccleston plays the main role of "Destro" at the present time the movie is set in. Tazzzman: Still coming together nicely. Thanks for the info. Kaisugi: Quote:

Shin Densetsu: That means 2 Destro figures at least for the movie line. Old daddy Destro and Pimp daddy destro. RedHeadKevin: I just hope that both Destros wear the mask! The only Destro pic we've seen has been maskless. Amberbratt: ya and his big ass heads looks like a potatoe!!!! COBRACOLLECTOR: im loving the sound of them using that part of destros background for the movie and getting in depth with his Charectar like this Crimson Rage: I'm glad they didn't have the same actor playing ancestor and descendant as that always looks a little cheesy to me. MLos1: Hope they do justice to the Cobra Commander back story as well. This whole ex-JOE Duke's buddy, amped up super soldier, turned leader of Cobra seems shitty to me.
With that said. Therein lies the problem with the core of this movie for me. The Duke Cobra Commander relationship is totally fabricated from thin-air instead of anything fans know. Pimp Daddy Darklon: I thought they were casting Leonardo DiCaprio as Destro's grandpapa. Along with the Three Irongrenadeer Cobra-Viper: I think that is really cool that he's in the movie, its a really nice touch by the people making the film, plus he gets a kick ass role as the first ever Destro! ooten: I'm sorry I can not see chris ecc as destro, he may be a good actor he may do a good job in the movie I dont know, but a skinny sickly looking middle aged guy as destro he just wont ever be destro to me, its just not right. And im not one of the negative nay sayers on this movie either. I am pumped about it and excited about most of it. I know u cant have a black guy rhyming all his sentences, or a gung ho that looks like hes out of the village people or a ninja that is always in his mask and ninja gear and have a modern day half realistic good movie, but chris ecc is the wrong guy to play destro, this is a major let down for me. Indeed. The "disgruntled used car salesman pushed too far" origin is fine in a comic that's allowed to tell the story at a deliberate pace over months (indeed years) of printed material, but may be a bit much for viewers of a two-hour movie to take on board. Effects of Silence: Quote:

I'm just worried that he's going to be a generic evil villain as opposed to a charismatic leader with a valid political agenda. Or maybe I just identify with his motives too much for my own good. I really can't see any one individual raising an army without having reasonable claims to rebel and an enthusiastic personality to motivate people to actually get off their asses and do something. I mean, Hitler was a monster, but at the time he not only manipulated the fears and unrest within the german community but he also wholeheartedly believed in what he was fighting for. When I see Cobra Commander in the movie I want to think of him as a less sadistic but equally charismatic version of Hitler. I'm looking at the guy playing Cobra Commander right now and all I can think to myself is, "I'd never follow THAT guy into a revolution". I really hope his acting abilities surpass demeanor.
Thats just my opinion though. Maybe I read too much into the comics and stuff. Dropshot: lol That's a nice move from the producers. Funnel Rat: I'm really hoping for a tiny bit of exploration along the CG lines. Pissed off every day folk like you or I, except they may have a uniform hanging in their closet we lack. The whole "already in your neighbourhood" part of cobra is my fav. What better army than one that can fit in anywhere and spread hate? | All times are GMT -4. The time now is 09:24 AM. | |
