First look GI Joe 2 Retalition Movie Logo. This logo is currently being used by the filming crew, I think it's awesome and I hope it sticks as the final version.

I like the logo I also hope this is the one they use.

It makes it look like wolverine is in this movie, minus one claw...

I like the grittier look of the logo, but the scratch II just doesn't work IMO.

I agree. If they had to have the scratches, I wonder why they didn't put them over the O instead of the E. And they aren't really scratches... maybe more like slashes, but still more generic than instantly recognizable as whatever they're supposed to be. If grittier is what they are going for and they want red in the logo then I would've gone with blood splattered slashes.
SVT_COBRA:
Kitty cat scratches, not feeling it. Though Ive liked everything else to come out of the GIJ2 camp so far.

EDIT: I would form the number 2 with a snake.
SonOfMindbender:
I like this!!

Yeah, well, your opinion sucks! It just sucks! Ha!!! Just kidding Gun. I'm liking the new logo as well. Even if it is minus the red, white, and blue. The two scratches don't work, but it could be worse.
samjjones:
Would it be too difficult to get a Cobra sigil in there?

Its a pretty well-known symbol.

I just wonder if retailers are gonna want to see that logo again...
Hectoramirez:
Are those Cobra Fang slashes?
DR.Sin:
The new Logo looks like a new logo. They are going for a grittier movie, so let's make a gritty logo. It is honestly not that amazing looking, but I can deal with it. I for one am waiting until the movie shows me just how gritty it wants to be. The proof is in the pudding after all. I would hope for something closer to the expendables movie.
Snark:
Pretty nice logo. The scratch marks look a little silly though, I would have preferred the "II" done in the same font as the rest of the logo, but eh, that's just me.
alexan2dros:
Ι like it!
aussietrooper20:
This ones alot better. the good thing is that they listened to the fans who complainted to hasbro about the first film and are fixing it.
qwe:
I think they should call this movie:

GI JOE2 : REDEMPTION
"we promise not to f!@#$ this one up!"

I actually like the scratch marks because they're very subtle. It could be a "II" or it could just be scratches. A nice way of saying this isn't exactly a Sequel to that piece of shit movie before, just a brand new movie about GI Joe.

At least that's how I'd like to think of it.

Let's see...

OLD:

(allegedly) NEW:

I have to hope this is only a leaked design comp and the final logo will have some changes.

From a designer's standpoint here's my criticisms:
While the texture looks cool in this context, if the logo has to stand alone (no background) then it's going to have some issues with printability in lower resolution instances along with being combined with other colors. Basically it will end up looking like a blurry blob.

This logo would always require a drop shadow or a dark key line to allow the white highlights to stay distinct. Even though you can tell the designer(s) were trying to make it look more three dimensional it actually comes across pretty flat. The depth looks forced here and the floaty brown cloud behind it in the black background seems to only be there to try and fight the overly 2D look of the logo.

The slashes/scratches aren't bad per say, but they are creating some weird negative space there in the arms of the "E". I actually appreciate not trying to put the number "2" in there which I'm sure the designer(s) are relieved about too.

Decreasing the size of the star over the "J" works nicely here because it's not in competition with the slashes and is even with the top of the other letters.
For what it's worth I never liked the "old" logo at all in the first place. It seems like it's working too hard to be sort of like, but not exactly, the original ARAH logo. I guess someone in marketing decided that the original logo wasn't "cool" or "modern" enough so they thought they could improve on it. It didn't work and now they can't abandon it.

Like I mentioned, I hope this is merely a "rough draft" of what the final logo will look like because this seems like it still requires more work. I understand that they are stuck with the basic form of the movie logo from the last one but I can see that they've put some effort into creating an update that seems to address some of the issues that were persistent before.

I have to wonder if Chu posted this to see if there would be any feedback about it and what people would think was good and/or bad about it.

I'm a designer so I get paid to geek out on logos and shit.

I love how tankers will sh** on everything. Geez, it's a logo. I'm sure not the final one. They've barely started filming the movie and I'm sure we won't see the formal, final logo for a while.

Read the last line in my post. Looking at logos is what I do for a living.

There's also a significant difference between "shitting" on something and giving an honest critique. Designers have to give and take critiques to/from their peers on a constant basis. If anyone from the movie reads these threads on the tank and they happen to be on the design team, I'm sure they'd actually appreciate an honest opinion from someone who knows what they are talking about.

The thing about branding is that it's a long, protracted process and finalizing the logo for a film is something that has to happen LONG before the filming stops.

So far what they've done is an improvement on the original design as far as I'm concerned. The fact that they are putting effort into changes and even making the initial drafts available to the public to view is especially nice to see because it shows they are interested in what the fans think.

So there's that.

My comment wasn't directed at you. I had already read your comment and I was quite impressed with what you had to say on the matter. It's other tankers that criticize everything without so much as a logical, articulated comment.
orezona:
Ah, I see. My bad! I just thought you were criticizing my critique and my fragile designers ego couldn't handle that! I shouldn't have spoken so soon.

Sorry if I came off kind of dickish.

LMAO!!! Oh hell no, I can't criticize someone for taking the time to articulate their point. Much too often tanker's (and yes I am generalizing) state their opinions and never truly explain themselves.

You didn't come off dick-ish. I see how I may have come off lumping everyone together.
vermillion21:
Meh. New movie logo looks kinda lame. The 2 red lines don't do it for me.
