While we have been reading that he was on board. The Rock just tweeted a little while ago that he's officially a Joe. He stated " give me a big ass gun I'm ready". I think this is pretty friggin cool for this franchise. Just my two cents.
RuckusJr:
Didn't he confirm this with the "And now you know..." tweet a couple weeks ago?
kennywr22:
Sort of but it just wasn't official. We knew but this makes it real.
starbuck:
I can smell what the rock is cooking...
BEAM:
I want one People's Ebrow directly into the camera.
TheRealDubya:
When I see that dude in a camo wife beater and orange dungarees with Ma Browning held tight in his hands screaming at some filthy blueshirt, I'll know this shit is real.
Zefram:
In the movie or as a figure?
TheRealDubya:
Both?
The Commander:
I like this. Having a "big name" like The Rock/Dwayne Johnson can only help the brand.
PROVOST:
Who?

As long as he contributes to the film as a solid character and doesn't dominate the film as an overbearing lead. I've seen him do the former in other films, so I'm not worried about him being added.
RuckusJr:
He's gonna make Channing look like a baby, lol.
SVT_COBRA:
Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock........DOPE.
CTGLinks:
sweet!
Nexodusrex:
you know what. I want to see Ray Park play CObra Commander also. cause then he can be in full silver mask and be dubbed by Chris Latta

Unfortunately they'll probably do that considering he IS the best-known actor in the movie. I personally don't mind but I'm sure others like yourself will and I understand.

They might have a hard time getting Chris Latta to do the voice...

Not necessarily. Brendan Frasier had a small role, and he's a top level lead actor. So if they can do it with him, no reason they can't do it with the rock.
Saboteur:
Yeah. Give him a "big ass gun."

While you're at it, give him a big ass rocket launcher too.

I think everyone's wanting those included in the next line too.
sbartek1974:
Does this mean that the Roadblock movie figure will be a lighter skin color than the original Roadblock?

Fraser's part was a small cameo.

Rock is one of the principles, presumably.

He did but this is more elaborate.
Griff:
i dont think even the awesomeness that is THE ROCK is enough to save this franchise unless they completely and utterly disavow roc from ever exsisting. This is gonna be liek mortal kombat 2 movie...SOMEWHAT better designs and actors,....horribly butchered everything else.
RolandofGilead:
Cobra better not try messin' with this Joe.

He's the best known actor thus far. Hopefully it doesn't end with him. I just want to see some ass kickin'.

Not without a heater and some serious smelling salts..
Novirasputin:
he's a decent actor too (for a wrestler who has to act in live time like people in plays and so forth)
if you watched "Walking tall" or "walk tall" he was good in that one.
Hazemat:
I like the Rock. Not at all sold on the Rock as Roadblock idea. I find it ridiculous that they would even consider making him Roadblock, for obvious reasons. Even more ridiculous are the derisive, vitriol filled folks who think it's ridiculous for thinking that it's ridiculous. They'd probably call "fanboy" if someone took umbrage to Bugs Bunny being turned into a turtle..

What was the official tweet? "Give me a big ass gun I'm ready" could be a Doom sequel for those not in the know...
Hawkwinter:
Excellent. Now this guy belongs in a Joe movie. Hopefully people can get over Joseph Gordan-Levitt "leaving for greener pastures" because he was part of ONE hit (although intellectually-deprived) movie. Yes, he's in the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises, but ask most people and they've never heard of the guy and have no idea who he is. The Rock? Yeah, they know who he is. Guys want to be him, chicks want to be with him. Perfect. Get the right kind of people in theater seats.

If only this movie didn't have "Tater-head" in it, because everything else we've heard about it is perfect.

Doom needs a sequel more badly than Joe anyway.

JGL is a solid actor. They just went in a nutty direction for the character in RoC.

Is Inception your idea of an 'intellectually deprived' movie?

You could be right. But since he said "big ass" gun, I think that means he's talking about Roadblock and getting some monster 50 cal machine or mini gun.

The damn Star Wars Holiday Special was better than ROC. Anything has to be an improvement.

I still haven't seen that, the trailers looked beast though.

I think the ROCK will do great as Roadblock...biggest actor they've signed so far, AND the guy can act. No matter if the movie bombs or does well, at the very least, the roadbROCK's parts will be entertaining.
BeachHead86:
Epic. Now, as a Mississippi boy myself, Roadblock better still be from Biloxi or I'm gonna be hacked.

Most definately. It falls into that category of movies that create their own rules to make an impressive scenario or situation and then starts making it more and more complicated leading average people to the assumption that it is a deeply intellectual movie, while if you actually keep pace with what's happening, which isn't that hard, it breaks its own established rules over and over in order to make the story more dramatic. In a lot of ways it reminds me of the Matrix sequels. Pure fluff made to look like something intellectual. I was deeply dissapointed how flawed this movies "logic" was. It was full of "this is the way it is" moments that served no purpose than to add tension, but failed to be logical. Of course I have yet to see a sci-fi movie even come close to what true sci-fi is capable of (you need to read to experience that), but that's another topic.

It was light years ahead of RoC, but that isn't saying much. And more importantly it's also not the kind of movie I'd like GI Joe to be.

Having the Rock join sends the right message. This is gonna be an ass-kicking action movie.
dgnr82:
one thing no one is thinking about how great a move this is,....think of the marketing the WWE is gonna do with this. They have tons of kids watching their product, and you know they will promote this too.

Could be just what the line needs to get the kids interested.

Great move Hasbro and Paramount!

Interesting take.

I agree though -- The Rock is the right direction for this franchise.

And I thought I was the only one. I'd "friend" you for the Matrix comments alone if I believed in Face Book. As for Inception, you're spot on again. It must be nice to be just smart enough to fool the masses into thinking your deep and intellectual while throwing convoluted crap on the screen. Look how many believe The Dark Knight was a "realistic" portrayal of Batman. It's probably not a coincidence that it's the same number that believe the first Matrix film and Batman Begins were the biggest movie hits of their respective years.
Lightbringer719:
I guess this means we'll be getting a reasonably well-sculpted figure featuring Rock's likeness when G.I. Joe 2 hits.
