Here's to hoping Retaliation makes a ass-crap-load of money and Hasbro keeps the old and new figures coming!
Jinx723:
It's called being old.
The older you get the faster time goes by. I can't believe it's already been 5+ years since the 25th Anniversary came out.

Pushed back 9 months and others 'across the Pond' get to see it before us?

No kidding. I've spent the last five years trying to teach ignorant hicks physics. Oy.

Not really much to say, lol.

It is what it is. It'll premiere in England first. News over.

and i'm sure with that attitude they will warm right up to you!

anyways to the topic at hand. I instantly felt very conflicted. Before we see it we will know if it sucks or not, but we will also probably be bombarded with way too many spoilers to resist.
Renegade:
England first, really? GI Joe will debut over the pond? For a property that has been known for much longer than not as "A Real American Hero?" Okay...

I guess that the internet will get bootlegged copies of this flick via someone's shaky handheld cam sooner than later LOL

I will hold off on the bootlegs however, as I've got to see all this wacky ninja action in 3d!

Any news on the figures? Last I heard we weren't going to get any over here.
afsupplies:
No, afaik Hasbro are not releasing the movie figures in the UK through the normal retail outlets. You can order them from my site though (see link in my signature).
soundwave84:
ok,it's getting a premiere in england first and some of you are a little peeved by this[i can understand that].however the flipside to this particular coin is:the brits are not getting any product at retail....which is bad form by hasbro,in my opinion anyway.so it balances out.

Now that's ironic. Does Hasbro really even want to sell toys anymore?
thairestauranteur:
Its crazy. The UK will premiere the film? In February; a month earlier than when it is scheduled to be released in the US?

G.I.Joe The Real British Hero?

America really has gone downhill when they won't even release its movies stateside first.

I agree. In the UK, it is almost impossible for a law-abiding citizen to 'legally' obtain a firearm. The UK population has been completely pacified and disarmed. The government rules with an iron fist and doesn't want any kind of citizen uprising.

It is ironic that a military movie what as inspired by a line of toys which promotes 'The American Way' i.e. Constitutional Rights would be initially shown in the UK.

Ironic indeed. Especially since the UK isn't getting any figures.

This is how brainless the dunderheads at Hasbro work.

I am sure they are thinking it is "wild" and "crazy". These are actual terms used by Hasblo company chiefs. I can't and wouldn't make this stuff up.
Stygian:
I find it strangely ironic that an ostensibly American product like GI Joe- homegrown and for all intents and purposes virtually bubbling with jingoistic greedy overblown American military pride- is first being shown across the pond. With zero disrespect indended to our brothers across the way, I just find this very weird. GI Joe as a concept did originate here in the US, correct? And was intended to gel with Americans in the throws of American military pride, yes? So, why is it that the English get first crack at it this time out? I know International box office receipts tend to eclipse US, especially for summer popcorn movies, but was the first GI Joe movie so popular in the UK that it gets first dibs... again??

Because Cobra Commander blows up London in the trailer.

Actually, I think it's Zartan disguised as the president who blows up London in the trailer. But CC probably told him to do it.
Cobra must really hate Europe. First the Eiffel Tower and now London. What's next?

Yeah but Cobra Commander told him to, no doubts about it!
Troynos:
Remember, the G.I. Joe team in the movie is an international team, not American.
McSoundwave:
February? You don't say! I just may have to take the daughter to go see it when it premieres!

Wrong! he did it as a demonstration! CC's plan was to use the weapon to force to leaders into surrender their nuclear weapons to Cobra or be destroyed!

Ironic for you guys, over here we had Action Force, which used the same figures with modified filecards, some of the same storyline with the addition of Marvel UK written content, so it's not all that strange for us - the line over here thankfully wasn't "All American Hero".

I agree with you there. Madness. Perhaps they will reconsider.

You never know, perhaps they've rejigged the characters solely for the international market (what was the cinema/DVD/toy sales breakdown for USA vs. rest of the world?). Hawk and Duke were always from the USA, but I'd be more than happy with a return to the British Flint, NZ Beach Head, and Japanese Storm Shadow, to list but a few, of the UK Marvel run.

Here's hoping ;)

eddy-arashikage:
Nooooooooo!!!!!
eddy-arashikage:
Going on what lardman said, The reason it was converted to 3D was for international sales.

The sales of Joe internationally may be a lot smaller but then most euro countries are a heck of a lot smaller than the states especially the UK so maybe pro rata the joes are actually selling quite well.

But more than like im just another british fan clutching at straws!
the fact that it's not premiering in Feb is no big deal I thought it was due out in april or may!
ilzuccone:
Hate to break it to you guys but this is what movie studios do when movies suck and cant compete with the better films. They jockey them around looking for gimmicks (3d) and the perfect release date with the least amount of competition. If the film was good they wouldn't have delayed it this long for a few extra 3d bucks.
USAgent:
Great! World wide premier is much better... now I don't need have to see a month of threads detailing everything in the movie ...or a month of the usual "Retaliation Sucks!" threads before being able to watch it for myself.

Is a realistic one. That joe film couldn't stand its ground against Avengers; 3d or not.

here's the thing though, buzz for the movie amongst the fandom was pretty positive up until the film's delay. the only really response from test screenings that were allegedly negative was that they wanted more Tatum. so...based on what I've seen I think the movie will be better than ROC (and I actually really liked ROC and don't fully understand all the hate but I digress).

Really if we all at least hope for the same financial success as ROC we will get another sequel and they will hopefully bring in more fan servicey things and bring back some stuff from ROC that they never shoulda took out like Rachel Nichols. She even wanted to return! We need the Baroness back too, she needs to get revenge on the world for being corrupted with nanomites so she now has motivation to be a full blown real terrorist.
ilzuccone:
Yeah I think the movie will be better than the last.

I laughed so hard to this comment.

In reality... don't worry... it's Venezuela. They have to wait till 10th May for the movie.

This sounds more like a Hollywood type Premiere because I just checked Empire Square Cinema Leicester London and Retaliation starts for the general public on the 27th.
