NEWS FLASH: Channing Tatum's 'G.I. Joe' Moves to the Czech Republic

Today a 'G.I. Joe' producer in Prague let the Prague Post know the film will be shooting a big car chase scene in and around Barrandov Film Studios in May.

"It's going to be one big car chase," said David Minkowski, of the Czech production company, Stillking Films. "Director Stephen Sommers, who made both 'Mummies,' and who filmed 'Van Helsing' here, loves Prague and action."

As I mentioned a few months ago, 'G.I. Joe' originally started filming in early February for approximately 5 weeks in California. Filming is set to start up again as early as next week, and the article says it will bring several big Hollywood names to Prague, including Dennis Quaid, Sienna Miller, Dwayne Johnson, and Channing Tatum.

Minkowski also mentioned that filming will take over large chunks of Prague Old Town. Residents and store owners in the affected streets have already been notified about the production.

'G.I. Joe' is set to hit theaters on August 7, 2009. You can CLICK HERE to check out all of the international release dates for the highly-anticipated film.

Stay tuned to Channing Tatum Unwrapped, and I'll keep you posted on any 'G.I. Joe' filming reports from the Czech Republic.

Dropshot:
Both him and Brendan Fraiser have worked with Sommers before, so if Fraiser was confirmed to be attached to the Joe film, it was a matter of time until we received a confirmation from the Rock.
Caliburn:
Nice update, thanks. This raises a thought in my head. Does anyone else think that Sommers is setting us up for a Rock GI JOE spin-off movie. He did try it with the Mummy, a very unlikely spin-off with the Scorpion King. It just seems like a lot to fly The Rock in for a what appears to be now: a glorified expanded Cameo.
Amberbratt:
dood i hope he is playing someone other than shipwreck................
onefastbird95:
I heard he is making a cameo playing himself as "The Rock" and is going to be the bodyguard of Specialist Matt Trakker, which is also a cameo, but the scene can only be seen after the final credits.(So make sure you stay way past when the credits end.)

    LMAO.................good stuff.
MunkyX:
Give him a mustache and he can be Alpine. The Rock is good at being a sarcastic wise-acre. Oh! Oh! He can be the 'new' Sergeant Slaughter since the Slaughter we know and love is a bit over the hill and well... quite frankly a bit portly... to reprise a role as himself. In a way, it'd be a good throw back/tie-in to the WWE... not that the Rock is doing that anymore :p

And as much as I loved M.A.S.K. as a kid... please, please, please leave Matt Trakker out of this (too late). I swear... if I see Scott and T-Bob in any way... I'm goin on a killin' spree.
Bionic Commando:
Since there is a $400 "Roddy Piper" figure does that mean a 25th Modern Era "The Rock" figure is not too far behind?
vision_vanson:
I also think the Rock can be the new Sgt. Slaughter and do a damn good job. That would be a great casting choice bc the Rock already has that drill instructor voice and was also a wrestler for the WWE so it makes sense for him to be the new Sgt. Slaughter. I really don't see him as a Shipwreck or anyone else on the Joe team except for maybe Beach Head.
STORM SHADOW:
He is not Shipwreck. This is turning out real bad, real bad.

    Channing Tauntaun ...
biggbenns:
So will this be a lead role or a simple cameo? It would help bring more butts in the seats if he is in the movie!
Omegawrath:
    CAN YOU SMEEELLLLL,

    WHAT THE 'WRECK...

    is cookin'?
WVMojo:
Hey Maybe he'll have a 2x4 from Walking Tall and chase Stifler around in that car chase scene...I just hope and pray we dont see the People's elbow or a Rock Bottom...

    Doh!! That was bad :p

    Could be worse...

    - 'Who... in the blue hell... are you?'
    - 'I'm Des...'
    - 'It doesn't matter who you are! Hey... hey Destro... do you like pie?'

Now, I would pay some good money to see that right there.

Maybe they're doing the movie as a parody, or comedy. That would explain all the casting and script questions.

    G.I. Joe: World Police

Starring: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and that kid from "3rd Rock"

I'm a little lost as to who is pushing this information out. You guys are scaring me. I think a little more research is needed.

Here's a little tid-bit from someone who may know a little about the movie itself -Lorenzo di Bonaventura

Overall, Stephen Sommers appears to running a tight ship. Sienna Miller is smoking hot, these sets are huge, there were plenty of explosions, plenty of water and we saw Vipers and Neo-Vipers.

And finally, Brendan Fraser does not play Gung-Ho or any other Joe that has been rumored thus far and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will not be in the film.

    you guys are killin me

I totally agree. Speculation is a killer. Especially when people take it a gospel.

My wish for the Rock being Sgt Slaughter was merely that... a wish. Primarily, because I think he can do it, and do it well. Despite his pro-wrestling background and the stigma that most people of that ilk can't act (Hulk Hogan, Jesse Ventura, Steve Austin... to name a few) the Rock breaks that stigma. Scorpion King, while not the greatest flick was fun. 'Walking Tall' and the 'Rundown' play to the Rock's strength of being a tough guy. 'Grid Iron Gang' and 'Gameplan' help him play a more family oriented role. But, where he truly shines is 'Be Cool'. I was laughing my @$$ off. I think just about any role they could put the Rock in for GI:Joe would be one he could live up to.

Here's to hoping he does get a part... if not now, later.
