Thanks to HISSTANK.com boards member OreoBuilder for posting up his custom Retro Cobra Army.
“Up to now, my retro project has focused mostly on G.I. Joe. But what are good guys without bad guys? My approach to Project Retro was to imagine what G.I. Joe and Cobra looked like circa 1980, a couple of years after the Adventure Team and about 2 years before we officially met them in 1982.
I eliminated most of the regal and over the top elements and gave them all some more basic fatigues. I wanted to convey the idea that this is the birth of a para-military group. The uniforms are simple and the equipment is bought from surplus.
Cobra Commander has three looks: the pyramid scheme used car sales-man, the fatigues with ski mask (an early version of the hooded look) and the battle helmet. For the Baroness, I went with something similar to her look in Marvel #1. Major Bludd, in 1980 hasn’t yet suffered the loss if his right arm. Cobra Militia members wear simple shirts and trousers with face mask and surplus WWII helmets.”

Here are some more customs that have been done for a while (about two years now), but never published. When I get a chance, I might go back and replace some parts with more PoC/30th parts. Major Bludd's legs in particular could use an upgrade, but for now, I'm pretty happy with them.

Troopers could use simple field packs. Bludd and baroness could use..... something I dunno, but I like these CC is perrfect.

I totally LOVE the black scarf on battle helmet Cobra Commander. Such a tiny addition, but it added so much to his look! The shoulder holster is great, too.
Parts list for the Commander, pls. Is that scarf from Tunnel Rat, and did you have to mod it to snugly fit around the Commander's helmet like that?

I love the concept. I especially like CC here, and it's a great idea to have him wearing a ski mask. I kind of prefer that over the hood. Oh, and your Baroness looks much better than the original Marvel #1-22 version! I always wondered about her early days with Cobra. Was she there at the beginning?
If I could add anything, it would be some Nazi-style armbands, with the Cobra sigil on them. Always thought that would be cool.

These are fantastic well done

Very nice, reminiscent of the style from the first run of the Marvel comic. The jeep and howitzer are just perfect.
