I posted this on the TFW2005 boards and thought I would post him over here too.

He is basically the new Universe Powerglide painted up to looke like a Rattler, complete with stickers. The stickers are stickers, so they tend to stick out, wish I could have used decals. I know I can make my own, they just never turn out good.

I also added some additional arsenal to his wings.

gdztoyz:
Awesome work! That has Botcon/Joecon exclusive all over it! He looks menacing in this color scheme!
mikeTime:
    Awesome, paint looks factory. Sweet
Pyroclasm:
I had planned to do the same thing before I ended giving up Transformer collecting. Kudos on a job well done. The paint job is excellent.
arch2b:
take notes hasbro... this is very cool.
abesapien2:
    that is bad ass
Captain Carstein:
That's damn cool! Thanks for sharing.
Barefoot Jedi:
That is SUPERB!!! One of the best I've seen!!!
Copper21:
That is friggin' awesome! That should be looked at by Hasbro. Maybe a Joe/TF crossover toy wouldn't be so bad after all...
drew2kew:
man that is sweeeeeet! its face looks like the iron grenadiers from sigma six. I wish Hasbro would pay you and produce some of those!
Boggs6ft7:
    Thanks everyone.

I would like to try some GI Joe transformer reshells, if I ever get around to it, I'll post them on here.
Shogi:
Man, you're gonna make me go out and buy Powerglide now! Awesome paintjob!
1337W422102:
I wanted to do the same thing, but I want to turn Onslaught into a HISS tank first.

    Very nice work!
TheTransTorture:
Very cool idea and the work is quality as usual !
Maybe cutting the excess areas off the stickers would have helped ?
Blaster'spunchingbagg:
I just have to say you customizers have a talent that I wish I had. I'm impressed. 90% of the customs on here including yours should put the designers at Hasbro to shame.
rob0213:
    very cool!!
VIPER E7:
TOTALLY AWESOME! Great job. Gotta get me a Powerglide now.
Booga:
HOLY HELL! man i am sooo stealing that! great work man
bmc:
way to go. that is awsome
MAJOR WOLF:
    Fantastic Job!!!!
245am:
what an awesome, awesome idea & excellent execution... how close is that Ultra class scale to the Joe figures? Any photos of Powerglide next to a 25th fig?
Cataclizm1:
    That's f@ckin rules!
primenemesis:
and people round here said that i transformer gi joe crossover was stupid, round bout the time we did the hasbro Q&A people bombed the idea, this is just the surface of what could be made.
B.A.T.:
I was gonna do the same thing but the engines are in the wrong place so I didn't bother. I wanted an actual Cobra Rattler that transforms, not an A-10 painted like a Rattler. Guess I'm just too picky. lol
bithomas:
    That's some awesome work!

The only recommendation I would make is to paint the grey areas around the eyes in some color that makes that area stand out from the rest of the head (I guess that red would probably work best). Then again, it may look darker in the picture than it does in reality.

Regardless, you did a great job here. I think that this would have been a much better repaint for the mold than Storm Cloud, which is really oddly colored and doesn't really work as an homage to the G1 Micromaster Storm Cloud. Instead, Hasbro could have done this since it looks better and would be a much closer homage to the Micromaster Tailwind (who was a blue A-10).
Boggs6ft7:
    Thanks everyone.

Not big enough to put a joe into, unfortunately.

I see what you mean, but I don't think it is as noticeable in person. Its just my lack of picture taking skills.

It does seem silly for Hasbro not to jump on the idea of combining the two lines. They did with star wars and that doesn't even make sense. I would only think they are waiting for the gijoe movie and transformers 2 to come out to capitalize on them both. We probably would have seen something by now, unless they are planning a xmas 2009 release.
vega-1:
    Dude that is AWESOME!
facehammer:
We had a thread about the Joe Crossover TF's a while back. This is the exact figure I was talking about. I'm really glad someone did it. And this is exactly how I think it should be done to be successful. A vehicle that turns into a robot and not a vehicle that turns into a joe character, like Rattler that turns into Cobra Commander or something like that. Nicely executed.
Cpl. Breaker:
Kick-@$$ job, dude! I want one!
ceraurus:
Nice! I really like that. I also don't really like the crossovers that turn into a character. Robot to joe or cobra vehicle would be the way to go.
nyb3017:
    WOW Thats AWESOME!!!!
kingsurlycrab:
willing to share the details on how you got that factory-look on the repaint?

i've been wanting to get into customs for a while, but have avoided it because i don't know anything about painting and wouldn't be happy with that thick shiny paint most customs seem to have.

you've given me new hope! awesome job.
Lantern_Lad:
This is amazing! I was planning on doing this too the minute I saw Powerglide... was it a difficult project? Never tried painting a Transformer for the lack of my custom painting skills.

Is it better to use a spray paint? Sorry, I'm full of questions, but can you blame me? Just look at that finished product!
VIPER 48:
    Very cool!...
Shin Densetsu:
I think now that it's only a matter of time before someone repaints Classics/Universe Silverbolt into the Cobra Night Raven!
Nemesis*Prime:
Excellent paintjob. Where did you get the missiles if you don't mind me asking?

On this figure, it was primed, the airsprayed with Tamiya Royal Blue, then the panels were sprayed in a lighter blue to bring out highlights, then painted over again with the Royal Blue to blend the colors, then coated in Future Floor Polish, then applied stickers, then coated in testors dull coat. The future makes a hard coating the helps prevent scratching, but this figure has a lot of rub. On the TFW board we talked about this, and dyeing the figure is probably a better way to go.

I agree with you on the shiney aspect. I regularly make my customs dull so more details can show up.

It was difficult in the sense that this figure has a lot of rub, meaning transforming him can ruin the paint job. There are ways around this such as sanding down the joints. I tried to do this as much as possible, but as I said above, dyeing is probably the better way to go.

I always spray when I can, otherwise I thin down the paints and put on three or four coats with a brush. An airbrush really saves time with this and the one I used was a cheapo from Harbor Freight.

They came from an A-10 model the I had laying around from a previous project.

    Thanks for the compliments everyone.
artiepants:
I so think Hasbro's missing the boat not doing G.I.Joe/Transformer Crossovers. it makes a hell of a lot more sense than the Star Wars or marvel ones to me.

I can see a G1 Hound/VAMP in my head with such crystal clarity, and it would be awesome. The transformation/look would be based off the Alternator Hound and the turret would pop off and split in 2 to make 2 rifles...

I'd do the line at typical TF scales and include ARAH minifigures for drivers... (cuz i just don't think it'd be feasible for a 'line' at Joe scale)
BOMBSHELLMIKE:
awesome, now make it in Joe scale!
getoninja:
thats so awesome, great job, very orignial idea
mrkenn:
The world looks upon you with great admiration..........
Grimwing:
More reasons for a gijoe transformer crossovers.

One of the greatest customs ever. I love that powerglide mold in general.

Though you could have saved yourself a lot of trouble washing over the grey with the black/blue recolor stormcloud coming really soon.
C.I.A.D.:
    Absolutely amazing!
C.I.A.D.:
Seriously, I cannot stop looking at the thing! I couldn't agree with you more, Grim, I've been itching for a TF/GIJ crossover line for YEARS now! (ever since those pics of Optimus as the Rolling Thunder & Megatron as Destro's Dominator surfaced).
