Custom Python Patrol Sky Striker XP21F

Custom Python Patrol Sky Striker XP21F
Not too long ago, HissTank boards member and resident customizer arch2b initiated work on his Custom Python Patrol Sky Striker XP21F. Now, while some frown upon repainting a GI Joe vehicle into Cobra colors and vice versa, sometimes the end result turns out to be, well....breathtaking! With a combination of custom sticker sheets from CobraStickers.com and time spent painstakingly masking off areas for the unique Python Patrol camo, the end result is one of the deadliest Skystrikers ever seen. See for yourself after the jump!

My apologies for the amateurish Photoshop skills. The pictures are not presentation quality but the best i can do with my limited skills with the software. Mask tape and rattle cans i can do, digital editing, i cannot.

Presented here is my completed Python Patrol Sky Striker. i have MANY other custom Python Patrol vehicles completed which as scatted throughout my main web gallery. PP Skyhawk, PP Mobat, PP Armadillo, and PP Vamp.

This is by far the most difficult custom i've done and one i'm most proud of so far. The Iron Grenadier Rattler is a close second just because it looked so bad ass.

Recipe:
1 - 30th Sky Striker
2 - cans of Kyrlon Fusion satin Burgandy
2 - cans of Krylon Fusion satin Black
3 - rolls of 18mm Tamiya mask tape
1 - can of Rustoleum yellow
2 - sheets of CobraStickers PP Conquest sticker
1 - set of CobraStickers Low Visibility Sky Striker stickers

For a descriptive process build, please see the Customs Works In Progress thread. I detailed the build fairly well so that anyone with crazy enough to go through that much tape is able to see and replicate the work. There are far easier ways to accomplish the PP custom that the path i chose.

Please enjoy

I didn't buy the 30th ann. Skystriker mainly because it costs around $30-$40 to ship it to Poland... But If THIS little baby got released by Hasbro I would buy it, pay the damn global shipping and never look back! Front page this!

I would sure as hell buy it. Looks better than the stock Python Patrol vehicles Hasbro made man.
C.I.A.D.:
Absolutely gorgeous, arch. The amount of work that you put in to this piece really shines through in the end result. I love that you masked off your spray area rather than use a sock/laundry/net bag, as the snake pattern is really nice, tight & clean.

Well played, sir.
Viper6:
why no silvering in the python paint scheme? also maybe th other bombs n fuel tank would sell it better w some yellow. nice though, bet that took a while
CobraCrimson:
Congrats on the well deserved front page arch!
MARSAGENT:
I rarely ever comment on things but that is hands down the best work I've seen in a long time. Hats off to you sir!

arch2b:
a wooden banister picket i had left over. it was the perfect diameter and 30" long. it was not easy to position the plane with one hand holding a 30" pole and shoot with the other hand and not wobble like a junkie before a fix. each one of those pictures has about 4 fuzzy versions. the diameter of the picket allowed me some control in spinning the picket to change direction of the plane. otherwise, it would just be twisting around all over the place. i had asked for help so i could focus on taking the pictures i wanted but i think my wife was to embarrassed to stand out in the yard holding a plane up on a stick

there are 3 silver streaks across the plane (top and bottom). it wasn't easy to get that to show up under such bright full sunlight but you can see them. it's much more noticeable in normal lighting.

i would normally have done all yellow armaments but chose to go with a bit more realist approach for this one. not that yellow is even practical for missiles but wanted to try this out this time. i've done the other way on all the others, was time for something new for this one. i can always swap them out for others if i really want to.

oh, the added layers of paint seem to help them stay on. one still falls off but only occasionally. i will likely end up using some shoe goo to keep them in place.

very kind words from Shin Densetsu, thank you.
the odinson:
i hate python patrol stuff, never understood why it has such a strong following.

but every time some goes all out python-patrolling vehicles it's always so impressive. looks great, very well done.
Fred Broca XIII:
I dig it...makes me want to go back and finish my Python Patrol Hydrofoil...just waiting on warm weather mostly...
Gouki03:
Holy Crap, that's awesome!!!!
